I was happy to see Bayern Munich go through for a couple of reasons, the most obvious being the armchair Utd fans who’ve jumped on the bandwagon across the country.
When I was at school in the 80’s, early 90’s, Utd were the butt of all the jokes, it was Liverpool this, Liverpool that. I did know a group of older Utd fans, they were season ticket holders then, and season ticket holders now, they couldn’t be anymore different to the typical Wigan based Utd fans these days.
The other reason is because the Bundesliga is a fantastic league, everything the Premiership should be.
They manage to not only produce great club teams, they also deliver on the international stage, their stadiums are modern, but retain charactor, match tickets are good value for money, and best of all, they don’t have the huge chip on their shoulder the Premier League do.
Listening to 5 Live a month or two back, the Premier Leagues representative summed up everything thats wrong with this league. His response to fans concerns, on a range of issues, was to throw out the cliche about the Premier League being the best league in the world, as if this excused fans being screwed over and clubs being put into huge debt.
The sooner the Premier League is brought down to earth the better.
We should assume the other relegation candidates will take maximum points, so aim for maximum points ourselves.
With this Latics team application is our biggest problem, so send them out without the ready made excuse of low expectations.
The duel usuage argument is a bit of a red herring, construction of the stadium was already well underway for Latics and Orrell before the Warriors came on board.
Orrell were paid off/thrown out, whatever your take is on this situation, so there is a precedent for this sort of thing, even if it is not exactly like for like.
Planning permision may have dictated the stadium was duel usuage, but for how long?
The Warriors initial lease was only for 25 years, then extended to 50 years after Latics were handed control of the stadium. The Warriors could potentially have been removed from the stadium in just 15 years time, so clearly the duel usuage requirement is not for the lifetime of the stadium.
There has also been talk about Wigan council not allowing another stadium to be built in the town, but this doesn’t make sense.
At the time planning permission was granted for the DW Stadium, the Warriors weren’t part of the plans, and already well on their way to selling Central Park.
Does this mean Wigan council would have denied the Warriors plans for their own stadium in the borough, i.e. the proposed one at Marus Bridge?
The Premier League proposal is ridiculous and backed by clubs a great many Warriors fans support, but it shows how tenuous the Warriors stay at the DW Stadium is, no wonder the LSV has been investigated as a potential home.
–“:15p0yrh0]By the pess definition, drunk idiots at a football game = Hooligans.
Call them what you like at the rugby, it’s creeping into your game.
it really isn’t
Just more nonsense this, if anybody wants to rant about the animosity from the past, turn up at games and shout “lyndsey out”, good start for the rugby this season and good luck to you, we’ve got our own and bigger fish (to us) to fry.cheers mate. good luck to your men too. i know enough tics men to know these clowns aren’t representative of all of you :)
I’m really not suprised you are trying to underplay the trouble at recent rugby games, anyone who claims C&W is welcoming of Latics fans views is clearly on another planet.By the press definition, drunk idiots at a football game = Hooligans.
Call them what you like at the rugby, it’s creeping into your game.
we went to warrington, and 5 fellas outside a pub without wire shirts kicked off with us – attendance that night was 13k. we took 3k to bradford and 4 yellow water up kids caused some hassle. we took 6k to saints and about 3 nobs caused bother. hardly an epidemic of hooliganism pal
You know as well as I do thats just the start of it, a fraction of that would have put Latics on the front page of the WEP.
Seriously, the only poor press you ever have to deal with is regarding the pitch, you should try being a Latics fan!
Remove the chip from the shoulder, show a touch of humilty, and gain a sense of humour is my advice to the average rugby fan.

   :lol:face it, if this new rule about ground sharing is brought in (and it’s a elephant big if, this is a daily mail article we’re talkin about here) then it won’t be the rugby leavin the DW. the FA only have power over latics. rugby have a 50 year lease, remember?
It helps if your upto speed on the facts before you jump head first into a thread.
Neither do I know why the rugby contingent seem to be taking this out on Latics, it’s the so called Premiership big hitters who are trying to push this through, you know, the clubs most of you guys support?
It’s time to chill out, as a collective you seem to be verbally squaring up to anyone who doesn’t pronounce you the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I would have thought you had bigger things on your plate dealing with the unruly section of your own fans who are tarnishing the name of Wigan on an almost weekly basis.
There is some irony in the fact Latics regularly defend the rugby against accusations of damaging the pitch, yet it is the Utds and Evertons of this world, the very clubs a great many rugby fans claim to support, who are throwing in these official complaints!
There goes another spurious excuse for rugby fans who want Latics done away with, I’m sure another will be along in double quick time.
The shirt signing is great, the “incredible” prices are due to getting a new strip, better get something for old strips than nothing.
It’s not exactly a secret shirts are reduced at this time of the season, while I would think the opportunity to have one fully signed is the major attraction.
Great that…………
If yer unemployed or you dont mind yer kids wackin school…………
No b1oody good to the average working man though!
It’s the Easter holidays……..
The Premiership have already thrown their weight around to switch matches, if they wish to start again let the rugby deal with the consequences.
Let’s face it, they never fail to remind everyone how the DW Stadium doesn’t feel like home, and would jump ship at the drop of a hat if there was a viable alternative in the Wigan area.
We have to target maximum points.
There’ll be plenty of unusual results, having seen whats happened in previous seasons we cannot rely on others.
Hopefully we’ll pick up another win somewhere, my worry is all these potential draws we’re throwing away.
We are only in this position thanks to an unexpected win against Liverpool and an injury time winner against Burnley, we haven’t been convincing against any team of a similar ability.
Totally pathetic again. Schwarzer should have held Scotlands effort, but hey, the Superduperfans will now be saying he is going to finish with 20 goals now he has broken his duck. He wont. He is cr4p. Cr4pper than a two week holiday in Widnes.
As for Bobby, standing there on the touchline, all scared again, staring vacantly, pretending that he is in charge, hoping that no one notices he has not got a clue, looking like Mr Bean only less able, thinking up another ridiculous excuse to try to show he is holding it together, maybe one about Bramble playing in Midfield for England, Or N’Zogbia playing left back for France or some equally mind dulling drivel.
Martinez will relegate Wigan.
And the ever so Superduper fans will lap up his “yes its been a dissapointing season, but i always believed you need to build a team through the championship, growing together to take on the Premier League, to do this i need 19 transfer windows, and nothing gives me greater satisfaction than seeing us lose 4-0 but then to read that we completed 55 sideways and backward passes in the statistics part of the SKy News match report on the web,,,,,,,,”
Joker, absolute joke Manager. And the back room “staff” – worse combination than John Barnes and Jason Macateer at Tranmere.
Should we go down, i hope Whelan has the decency to publically sack Martinez and bring in a new Manager for the Championship.
We where doing well today, until his devastatingly effective half time speech = (90 seconds after the re-start 1-1).
Martinez is just praying that Hull and Burnley dont pick up any more points, because we wont either – no doubt he will be playing 5-4-1 against Hull, again staring vacantly into space, wishing he was at home and out of the way of all the paying public who are sick of his pathetic decisions, pathetic substitutions and even more pathetic attempts at holding down a Premier League Managers Job.
totally agree, MARTINEZ OUT, even if we survive. but eh we are still learning.
TBH, I’m more interested in whether you’ll still be supporting the club next season, regardless of the division we are in.I’ll slag off the team, and believe me I am p***** off with them now, but I’ll be there next season.
It has to be said, we are now red hot favourites to go down.
I expected something against Bolton, Villa and Fulham, we have nothing.
What? If you expected something against Villa or Fulham then you are living in a dream world.
We still have Portsmouth, Hull and West Ham to play.
Today we were away to a team who are still in the Europa League. :(
You don’t really believe that do you?Going into the Bolton game a point was the minimun I expected, knowing fullwell a decent team would destroy them.
We move onto Villa, a team out on their feet, little confidence, and disruption in the camp………….they didn’t even need to work for their goals.
Now Fulham, I didn’t say beforehand, but I always believed this was a crucial game, it would determine whether we were up for these season defining games. Once again we collapsed, throwing away crucial points, relying upon relegation rivals to once again bail us out.
I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t believe this team has the fight to get the required points required to stay up, we’ll be reliant upon others.
I do believe Martinez is the right man for the job, but a number of our squad are already looking towards their next move, so he has little to work with.
Bank on our relegation rivals rivals getting 8-12 points, then consider if we are still safe.
