So what’s happened there then?
It’s been played on three times since the begining of December and it’s shocking. Have they been training on it or using it for land-fill perhaps?

Wigan Athletic trained on it during the bad weather. The head groundsman was not amused, and I’m led to believe had heated words with Martinez.
But unlike most clubs in the country our pitch will have no recovery time, therefore will be in a permanent state of disrepair until at least June.

Then the whole sorry affair will be repeated, with rugby supporters being ultra sensitive of any criticism of their club, you know how it goes.

Tonights attendance will show what our fanbase would be like in League 1 & 2. A true reflection of our support maybe?

No it won’t, I know two season ticket holders who will be going tonight, both retired.

The rest, who’ve watched the club through the divisions, will give it a miss, just as the clubs, players and media would given half a chance.

You cannot turn on the ‘magic of the cup’ when it suits you, it hasn’t been there for a decade.

The kind of people who came to the Fulham game were the likes of my niece and her friend.

They got in for £1 each, spent a couple of quid in the club shop, then came along to the Birmingham game, by which time my niece had saved up £5 to buy a drinks bottle from said shop.

That’s over £10 the club wouldn’t have raked in otherwise, more importantly my niece will be a new season ticket holder in 2010/11 after enjoying the games so much, she also has a list as long as my arm with Latics merchandise she wants.

These ticket deals are rarely taken up by neutrals, let’s face it most hate the club, they benefit current fans who normally cannot afford to take extra family members along.

They should not be charging £28 pound for cheapest adult ticket if they want people from Wigan to start going more often

Nail on head there mate.
£28/£30 is far too much for a lot of people to pay.
I am fortunate to have a season ticket, if I didn’t, there would no way I could afford to pay £28/£30 for a run of the mill league match.
Bloody hell didnt actually realise it was that much for a one off ticket – again i have a season ticket. Thats price is pretty shocking.
That’s the problem, as season ticket holders we lose sight of the match day prices.

If I was paying on a game by game basis, there’s no way I could make every home league game, those with families have even fewer chance.

Now if it was £20 and you were entitled to a junior ticket for £1, that would make a huge difference, even if the offer was restricted to the South stand.

Does it not tell you everything two of the lowest crowds this season, relative to the size of the opposition, were Utd and Everton?

These games had two things in common, police restrictions on ticket sales and promotions, and relatively expensive tickets.

For games against the likes of Fulham, Sunderland and Blackburn we are now attracting significany more home fans than for these so called glamour games.

For example, if we had the 16k home fans that came to the FULHAM game, there would have been 20k-21k on against Everton!

When are the club going to realise they can’t take their foot off the accelerator and coast for a couple of games, maximum effort needs to be put into promoting EVERY match.

If Latics didn’t own the stadium, revenue generated by it could be diverted away from the club. There would also be the possibility of a third party buying the stadium and not putting Latics at the top of their priorities. We’ve seen the rugby having to move matches, I wouldn’t like to see a Latics match switched because the stadium owners could generate more revenue from a concert or event.

How we he have a bigger payday? If someone was buying the club and the stadium was in Whelans ownership, they would have to buy that of him meaning he still got money for it?? You make no sense and you are pessimistic :)

Whelan can only get his money back if he sells Latics on at a decent price. To do that we need to maintain our Premiership status, Championship at the very least, and own our stadium.

It would be a hard sell if Latics didn’t have any foundations in place, I also doubt Whelan wants to be left with a multi-million pound stadium on his hands.

Must confess griff to being in neither camp, being right in between the two was my position, appreciative of what he had done for us whilst wondering who was going to be sold next, and wondering where the sky millions had gone. Didn’t DW say earlier in the season
that our debt was very low compared to other clubs, think he said we were just 15 million in debt, that being the case it shows the sky money has been going to pay off the club’s debts. My viewpoint would now swing towards the protector of the cause, HOWEVER before resetting the pendulem, I will just wait and see if our big two players key to our premiership survival remain after the transfer window.

I’d assume that £15m is to banks, the rest of the debt is to Whelan.

He appears to be reducing his personal debt, what’s left he’ll apparently convert into shares, he’d only get that money back when he sells the club.

Handing ownership of the stadium to Latics makes sense as he’ll have a bigger payday when he eventually does sell up.
