As we appear to be playing fantasy football on this thread, how about Darren Bent? OK, so Villa paid 20m for him just a year or so ago, but he ain’t playing and is clearly not in favour.
“Drop your wages, come to Wigan and resurrect your England career just like Heskey did then we’ll sell you on again for a last big move.”Well, after a nightmare journey we finally got to the game about 15 minutes in, so missed the first goal and hadn’t had a drink either. Just leaving Brum now and this train has beer, so happy despite the result.
Well, I am on my way ‘up’ on the train as I type. 30 minutes delayed due to … A broken window! So I’ll miss my connection at Crewe and will probably get there 5 minutes either side of kick off. And the train is dry! We’d better win!
Thanks gents. I’ve decided to buy train tickets and give it a go that way rather than drive. At least I can have a couple of beers and if the train is delayed, well, I can have another couple!
Anyone remember going to Macclesfield the last time we played them in the F.A. Cup? I went with my Mum and Dad as a seven year old and we all came home disappointed ! We played them at home in the Fourth Qualifyer , drawing 1-1 ( Ken Dumican 66 mins ) in front of 4,595 , then travelled to the Moss Rose on Wednesday 1st November 1967 for the Replay , losing 3-0 . Scorers for the Silkmen where Fidler (36) Taberner (ex Latic 79) and Rogers (84) , with a crowd of 4,440 . Match receipts where £540.00 ! I remember Latics had to play in our away kit of Red , as Macc played in Blue …… Come on Latics , it’s payback time 46 years on ! !
Latics Team : 1 Halsall 2 Houghton 3 A. Jones 4 Blundell 5 Craig 6 P. Jones 7 Dumican 8 Llewellyn 9 Lyon 10 Roberts 11 Grundy Sub LaceIn the First Round , Macc went on to beat Stockport County at home 4-1 in front of nearly 9,000 , in the Second Round they beat Spennymoor United at home 2-0 and went to Fulham in the Third Round , losing 4-2 .
Was there a meet and greet?
To be honest, I’m surprised their pay is so low.
Don’t worry , when you add in the expenses and perks ,they’re on a tidy little number – especially when you consider that unlike Skinner and a few others , few of them treat it as a nine to five job.
The “none of the above” option has never been more appealing.
As a teenager I quite fancied a ‘career’ in politics
Can’t quite believe it now. In fact, the trouble is too many of them see it as a ‘career’ rather than a vocation, or a desire to serve others, which in my opinion is what it should be.
It’s not even divided along party lines. Whilst he’s not a politician, I was reading about Arthur Scargill and his ‘benefits for life’ package that includes a second home in London that costs the NUM £35,000 a year.
It’s no wonder so many have become apathetic towards politics.
My holiday usually ties in with Wigan playing Catalans away and I head to Southern France for a week.
This year though I’m taking the Mrs to New York in November for her birthday. 4 nights from Weds-Sun with the Thursday being thanksgiving so we get to see the parade. Probably head to places like Ground Zero, Empire State, Madison Square Garden, Statue of Liberty and the fake Central Park (;-)). Really looking forward to it.
Ps – if anyone has been and knows any interesting places to go then pm me please?
Egg, it’s a fantastic city, you’ll love it. You’ve got the obvious places there, but make sure you do the city bus tour. I know it’s an obvious thing to say but it really is a great way to learn where different palces are. Well worth it.
Agree with Griff. After San Francisco it’s my favourite US city. You’re going at the right time too. It’s much better in the cooler months.
I’ve gone mad with travel this year.
India in nine days time (mix of work and pleasure).
A week in France in Feb half term (skiing) with family.
A week in the US in April (again work mixed with a few days for myself).
Cottage in Devon during May half term with family and in laws.
Not quite a holiday, but 5 days at Glastonbury at the end of June and 3 days at Silverstone for the F1 in July.Oh yeah, and Fulham this afternoon.
Still undecided on summer hols, but quite fancy Thailand, or Japan if I’m not bankrupt by then.
There’s an outside chance I might be going to Hawaii in September (work and pleasure again).
I definitely will not be going to Antalya. I love Turkey and have been to various places there, but the fortnight me and my wife had there twenty years ago is the worst holiday we’ve ever been on. Hope it’s got better for you.
20 years ago !! The Mrs said it is well nice in Antalya, I have never even been to Turkey but like to try different places so I am well up for it !
Actually just worked out it was 21 years ago this year. Well before marriage, kids or mortgage!
Looking at your link I realised we flew into Antalya, but the holiday was in Alanya just down the coast.
We were on the 7th floor of a hotel with no lift. It never went below 35 degrees day or night. The sand on the beach was too hot to walk on. Half a dozen locals had died because of the heat. We saw scorpions running across restaurant floors most evenings. Very few Brits, but loads of Russians and lots of power cuts caused by the Kurdish rebels who are just down the road.
On the positive side we were only there for two weeks :lol:Fair play to you Northernprimate, how do you find the time to work with all them holidays.
Nothing booked yet but will be somewhere warm. Went to Cornwall last year and didn’t get much sun… Fair to say i won’t be going anywhere as extravagant as some of the places mentioned aboveTBH when I read it back I thought I sounded like a right twat!
Most of the big trips are really work with a couple of days tagged on to the start or end.
 Not what i thought Northern…. good luck to you,
Hawaii – now that’s a place i’ve always fancied. One for when the kids have flown the nest though i think (so i can enjoy it  )
The trips involving work automatically exclude the kids and the wife, so I can REALLY enjoy those ;)
we were told last week that we aint getting a pay rise (AGAIN) this will make it 4 years since our last one and that was a measly 1%…managers etc have got one though!!!! and they wonder why we don’t want to communicate in any way/shape or form with them or take what they say seriously……this country is screwed up and a political messI totally understand companies having a pay freeze when times are tough, but managers taking a pay rise whilst workers get nothing is simply immoral.
Thailand for me, but I’m travelling with the wife and kids so the only pingpong balls I’ll see are ones people are playing table tennis with.Always fancied Thailand, but never been. Would you recommend it as a family holiday (we’ve got two teenagers)?

To be honest, I’m surprised their pay is so low.
1. It is very low compared to private sector pay for senior managers, directors, etc.
2. Very surprised the cheating, lying, immoral fckrs haven’t bumped it up before now3 points every time, even if we were already safe. It pains me to say it, but the FA Cup is becoming a non-event.
And GL, a very good reminder of exactly how far we’ve come.
