What does footballs worldwide status have to do with the little old town of Wigan?
If Wigan is a rugby town, as fans of the sport claim, why isn’t the DW stadium packed out week in, week out?
Latics fans acknowledge we don’t get great attendances by Premiership standards, then again the club has only had little over 30 years of league history, while for every Latics fan their are at least three fans of other clubs, possibly more.
By contrast the vast majority of rugby following Wiganer’s support their home town club, in addition a great many fans come from out of town, such as Bolton and Preston. All I ask is you be consistent, don’t roll out the rugby town rubbish when it suits, then flipflop when attendances don’t reflect that.
When have I said Wigan is a rugby town?
YepDid you?????
Yes. I always read through to check after I’ve written a post.
SnipDid you even read my post?
What’s even more amusing is when yet another egg chaser comes on here and expects to be taken seriously after all the bullying, derision and ridicule thrown at Latics fans from 25yrs ago to present day, including tons of digs on their site at present and doesn’t expect Latics fans to reciprocate. People reciprocate on here because they get banned off Rlfans for attempteing to redress the many lies told about Wigan Athletic on there.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with comparing the respective club’s attendances because for decades Wigan Athletic fans have had the words ‘its a rugby town’ rammed down our throats, and are simply pointing out that this is yet another lie perpetuated by the media. Not a match passes by without derogatory comments about our results and crowds on RL fans,Wigan world or Wigantoday from rugby fans so why shouldn’t people on here give a little back
Are you happy with Wigan being incorrectly portrayed as a rugby town even though Wigan Athletic gets bigger crowds, plus there are also a few thousand match going Utd/City/Liverpool/Everton fans in the town?
This is a Wigan Athletic fans site and we simply want the truth to be told, would you prefer for lies to be told about Wigan Athletic?
Latics fans hate the rugby because they tried to kill us
Rugby fans hate Latics because they exist
Never forgetAll very theatrical but it really doesn’t get us anywhere.
Personally I like to think of Wigan as a sporting town. We had top teams in both codes of rugby (until Whelan got at Orrell) and football and we are still one of only two towns to have top flight rugby league and football clubs.
Any rugby fan who doesn’t recognise that Latics are a major force in the town is an idiot. The same can be said for any Latics fans who say the rugby isn’t a key part of the town’s identity.Football is the undisputed world game, while Rugby Union is fast becoming a prime time sport in the UK, and expanding across Europe.
Most rugby supporters despise both sports, if they understood what made the majority of sports fans tick, perhaps their sport would move forward without the need for artificial expansion teams.
As it stands I believe it’s odd’s on Rugby League will return to amateur status within 15 years, any Rugby League player with talent won’t be able resist multi-million pound Rugby Union contracts.BARB viewing figures will tell you that Sky audiences for rugby union are falling and have been for some time. Rugby league on the other hand has seen figures increase and is the only sport that come anywhere close to football and cricket (the ashes).
Union has always been present in Europe but I can understand how someone who hasn’t got the foggiest about the game would think it is expanding when they see teams in Romania and Italy competing.
I think years of prejudice and discrimination have turned quite a few rugby league fans off the idea of union, however many still watch internationals on television. Don’t know many rugby league fans who ‘despise’ football or rugby union but the reverse is quite different.
Seems strange that fans of global spors such as football and rugby union would have such strong feelings towards a small, minority sport like rugby league. Don’t get many national journalists having a go at table tennis or ridiculing volleyball.
I’m not defending rugby league, but sometimes you have to acknowledge the facts and leave bias to one side. The disconnect with reality on the rugby side can be amusing.
Pre-season they never let a Latics match pass by without slating the attendance. A few games into the rugby season they make excuses for their below expected attendances, claim all will be fine once the ticket promotions kick in (something they criticise Latics heavily for), then go on about averaging 20k in a few years time! What’s amusing is anyone who tries to compare attendance figures for the biggest sport in the biggest league in the world with a small, minority sport like rugby league.
There’s “Nowt up with the Robin Park Arena Pitch”,on the same site and same level as the DWpitch plus its nearer to the Dougie!!!!!!!Dont play Proffesional RL on there do they!!!!!!!
Answer that smart arses “one imparticular“mr.G :geek:
I take it your English teacher wasn’t very professional.
Yet another rugby thread
Obsessed much?How much are tickets?
‘Tickets provided for 100 members of the Armed Forces members tonight.‘
‘The FA have also given out 150 free tickets to Muslim communities across the country.‘
Just got my tickets for the Good Friday game. It’s the one rugby match I always try to go to.
The rugby benefit hugely from having a big rival. I’ve always felt that’s been a problem for Latics over the years.Oh right so because some bell end of a rugby fan from Wigan says RL is the world’s greatest spectator sport and links to some journalist on a rugby league page who watches the game, that’s two people – when are you going to get around to ensuring that the other 6.8 billion people in the world automatically agree with your statement? You did speak on behalf of the world after all didn’t you? I am sure if you ask Americans many will say baseball or American football, Ask Japanese they will say sumo, ask Europeans, South Americans or Africans they will say football. Ask Australians and you’ll have as many saying cricket, aussie rules, RU as RL given that it is by no means that countries prominent code. But oh no, your sample of two people can apparently speak for the WHOLE WORLD of 6.8 billion people, of which around 6.79 billion have never even heard of rugby league. Come back with something better please.
Try leaving your house once in a while, there is a big wide world out there beyond the pit villages of Lancs & Yorks which you inhabit, and the insular world of RLfans.com where self serving idiots convince themselves that they are right to turn their back on the local team who is playing the national and global game in favour of some 21st century version of shin kicking ( and then hypocritically go and pledge allegiance to a big football club from a city they have no connection to ) Hardly anyone in the world gives a toss so if this perceived quality that you speak of is so great, why does the world ignore it?
You and your hate filled chums on RL fans might think RL is great in Wigan ( or wherever the other 40% live ;) ) just like they think cheese rolling is ace in Gloucester or bullfighting is great in Spain. Your opinion has been dismissed by me and dismissed by the rest of the world, toddle off back to the site where you all tell each other lies until you believe each other. After all this is a football site and before you say it,YOU were the one who came on here mouthing off about RL and slagging off your local football club. Stick to your own back yard, or at least attempt to come back with some facts to back up what you’ve said, you can’t lie your way out of it on here. Please remember that you have chosen to speak for the whole world here and not just the sad Latics haters from the small minded world you inhabit.
Best wishes
Scholes ;)Nurse!!!

By the same token if you arnt payint any rent towards the landlord towards fixtures and fittings it would be deemed as tresspassing :mrgreen:Only if the landlord complains. Maybe he has a hard job seeing what’s going on… all the way from the Bahamas.
£5000 ,£300.000 whatever is paid by the stadium owners out of the pot that both the thugby and tics pay into :roll:Isn’t the holdng company (owned by Whelan) paying for it?
Like I said, the Latics chairman is footing the bill and the rugby chairman isn’t spending a penny. Our situation with ground share is like this. Rising damp, Rigsby is the landlord and that black fella is a lodger. Whelan is rigsby and the fatties are that black geezer. If his boiler goes rigsby has to pay for it not the black mon. Its simple lads. i’d charge the tubbys more or tell them do one to orrell. You watch how quick that pitch rips up when them drug cheats have been on it. 12,001 when most of them have got £26 s/tickets.How they making any coin in the first place.Rigsby was a racist, scheming letch bent on knobbing the ugly bird who looked like a bloke.
The ‘black geezer’ was an well educated, reasoned lad who got the better of ever so slightly racist Rigsby every week. -
