And, all the players had….10 fingers. And the ref and linesman.

Even more spookily, they all had 10 toes as well. Weird.

Nobody born in Bolton plays for either team then?[/quote]

I didn’t say anything about the number of eyes…Or the length of arms.

Kirkland is barely good enough for the championship let alone relegation scrappers in the premiership. Al Habsi is a proper keeper. Someone who orders the back 4 and can actually move and go to ground when required. Old glass back has had his days but injuries have taken his career away from him. Al Habsi is Buffon compared to Kirkland piengravy

Don’t agree with that. Al habsi has been lucky to play at a time when the defence has got its act together. He looks decent based on a few games but Kirkland had a lot of credit in the bank for me. Hopefully for our sake he’ll get his form and fitness back and be the long term keeper we need. Looks like its easy for some people to forget how he has performed for us in the past.

Was it you who thought Al Habsi should have done better with Geordies 2nd goal? Harsh. What exactly did Kirky do in 1st 2 games to convince you that he is better than Habsi?

I may be misreading this as a serious post when there’s a degree of sarcasm intended, but I have to disagree. Ali has been far better than Kirkland of late in my small mind.

No, no sarcasm, and yes I did think he should have done better with Newcastles 2nd. The ball was in the air a long time before it got to Coloccini, and the header didn’t have that much power. A good keeper would have been getting right on top of him as he headed it. He stayed on his line, then could still have saved it. I think Kirkland would have done better there, using his size.

I accept Kirkland had been on the end of a couple too many beatings and made a couple of mistakes this season. But he’s one of the reasons we’re still in the Prem over the last 2-3 seasons, and I hope and expect him to return some time soon and be our long term keeper.

Hope Kirkland is back and keeps his place. I’m not at all convinced by Al Habsi.

Once he get’s fit i cant see how he cant get in over Thomas :(

    Famous last words….

He kept one promising young English player in Sinclair on the bench for a season, can definitely do it with another

I don’t mind what they do when they don’t have the ball – roughing teams up a bit worked for us for a while under Bruce with Brown, Cattermole, Scharner.

Its the rubbish they play when they’ve got it that p**ses me off.

S_J – I think the kids can become a member and get reduced prices, but I think this process takes some time – could be wrong on this though.

I reckon £30ish would be a fair price, to ST holders and to attract new fans.

in reply to: Bringing new fans in #47624

Did you not think of takign your kids to the Sunderland game at £7.50 a go? Or is it easier to pick on a game where you know the prices havent been reduced and gives you the excuse to moan.?

Its not me I’m talking about. I’ve got a ST. I’m just posing the question, if you were someone, say on average wage with two kids, thinking about coming along and starting to follow your local team and were quoted £50, would you? I don’t think I would. And neither did he.

in reply to: Scott Sinclair #47571

Don’t think your facts quite match your point there.

He’s been a young player at Chelsea. Like so many other young English lads at the big clubs he hasn’t had a cat in hells chance of getting anywhere near their first team. He gets shipped out on loan all over the place. Managers there don’t have to “assess if he’s good enough or not” – they just want to fill a gap for a couple of months.

He ends up with us. Our manager decides he wants a right footed centre forward on the left, even though we don’t have a centre forward worthy of the name in his place. He doesn’t get a chance.

Ends up at Swansea with his best years of development time at the top level: ages 18-21 behind him. He’ll never be the player he might have been.

Scott Sinclairs career so far is the epitome of all thats wrong with English football, as shown in the World Cup. If he’d been German, maybe, just maybe he may be an international regular by now.

On the other hand, he may be a terrible trainer with a bad attitude. Or never quite up to it. My point is, we have no idea of that from what we’ve seen at Latics.

in reply to: Scott Sinclair #47548

He never got a chance because he wasn’t good enough for the PL.
He is 21 and made his debut in January 2007.
He is currently playing for his 8th club. He has started just 38 games in nearly 4 years, including one start for us.
Hopefully for the lad Swansea might just be the making of him.

Can’t agree with that. How does anyone know if he’s good enough for the Prem – he’s never been given a chance to prove himself, particularly at Latics.

I don’t blame him for going to Swansea rather than coming back to Latics or staying at Chelsea – at least he’ll get a game there

in reply to: Scott Sinclair #47532

Never got a chance because our manager insisted on playing his best centre forward on the wing, taking a place he could have had.

in reply to: Boring Boring Wigan #46876

The post was about whether Martinez’s style of football is boring, not particularly about results.

Yes, its really dull. We were one of the lowest scorers in the league last season, and no difference this year. One goal in four home league games, including games against Blackpool and Sunderland.

There’s no width, no variety and worst of all, no intent. And you’ve got to play to the conditions. If they don’t suit endless keepball, don’t play that way.

Martinez’s tactics are one of the reason crowds are down.

We all have to remember that Martinez’s tactical model is the Spanish national side. They were really boring this summer too. And they’ve got good players.

in reply to: family tickets… #46021

    Make the most of it!

I live in the North East. My in laws are Boro fans. I enquired recently about tickets for a bog standard Championship game – would have been £45 plus boooking fee for me and two sons. Didn’t pay it obviously. No wonder they’re half empty.

Latics deserve a lot of credit for the ticket prices for families.
