I personally do not think we are poor. The thing is, we are nearly there – just lacking something at the moment, which happens to be in the final third. Unless i’m mistaken, we have not been battered this season by any team & the defeats we have had, have frustratingly been by a single goal.
That must be the Turkish Delight and Coffee Creams. Not so much the coffee creams. I actually love them.
* tonights star prize – crappy chocolates from the tin no-one wants.
Problem is the budget gets less and less every window and the side gets worse and worse. Austerity is nowt new at Latics as we have had to cope and make do with the budget declining every window along with the standard of the team. We are a small club from a small town with just a few fans. Without a fairy godmother what can we do to stop the decline?Congratulations donny for hitting the nail on the head & hence, winning tonights star prize*
You are correct. We are indeed a small town club (such as rochdale, oldham, pompey even) with very little support & unfortunately stuck in the middle of manchester & liverpool. A few seasons ago we punched above our weight, topped that of by winning the FA Cup & suddenly in folk’s eyes we are an established premier league club that should be back where we belong.
No! We are (as i have said in a post elsewhere) a mid-bottom championship/league 1 team. The sooner folk realise this the better. Additionally, in all of my 39 years as a latics mon, this club has always sold off its better to players to survive. It was no different in 1978 to what it is now. Just enjoy the ride. I do!!
I wouldn’t say the squad is poor. IMO its an average team at best. The problem is we are simply not creating chances, nor do we seem to be busting guts to get into goal scoring chances.
On a different subject. I was impressed with powell today & thought power had a decent game at right back.
Agreed donny.
I have just heard the news. RIP matty carragher!!
Sale of all that land at Charnock Richard and Wrightington will push us on to a new era of hope and will subsidise our rise back to the top flightSorry to disagree with you donny. But this so called rise to the top flight will not be happening for years, if ever for that matter. We as a football club are a top league 1/mid – bottom championship club at best. The sooner folk realise this, the better.
Still i do agree with you on one thing. It is good to dream.
Also if you look at the highlights Rotherham scored three right flukey goals. Another day none of them would have gone in. We also had Ronald and Diesel missing in midfield.
Watch out Derby and Huddersfield.I agree donny. I watched the highlights yesterday & couldn’t believe the flukeiness of their goals. As you say on another day, those wouldn’t have gone in & we might have been celebrating a 0 – 2 win – cue the 442 brigade claiming “i told you so!”
At the moment our luck seems to be deserting us. But wasn’t it jewell who stated that luck evens itself out eventually.
Wonder if any of the Whelan knockers would like this Mon back?I’d have him back tomorrow donny TBH. Skelmersdale is such a lovely place ;)
Why would you not attend games if we sold “the very inconsistent” yanic. Jees man. Grow up!!
Don’t you mean. grow up and realise that the ownership of Wigan Athletic have lost the last bit of ambition that they had :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
and
If Janic is inconsistent; then what about the rest of the squad ?
With all due respect lostock, what are your own personal expectations of wigan athletic football club. Throughout my time as a suporter, we have always been a selling club. Selling yanic will not be the end of our club. We will move on if he is sold, but TBH, i dont think the club will.
There were quite a few balls fizzed across the box but was it Grigg not being there or poor crosses or should we have had more men in the box? Grigg was everywhere yesterday.
I think we should stop looking for excuses for Grigg.
Perhaps even he himself (including a few others) is not a championship player

Overall we were desperately unlucky yesterday and at last creating chances and working very hard. A good win at Huddersfield, a good dogged showing against Villa, a great second half against Derby, a decent go at Newcastle. The tide is changing and Latics are on the up. Hopefully some good moves in the market next month. What pills are you on donny? You’re being very positive on here & elsewhere on another thread. In fairness though, i do agree with your post.
Paul jewell always said that luck evens itself out.
Good on mccarthy for being honest re: the penalty.
