Our investment, our FA cup win, our relegation, our club.
What’s the problem?Whelan is an ungrateful bastard isnt he.
Maloney, McCarthy, Kone and Mcmanman are all in contract.
While I dont want any of them to leave and depending on who the manager appointed is the sort of funds that would be generated from the above transfers would be a considerable budget to work with.
Like I said I hope we can keep them all (resigned to losing McCarthy) but if Steve Bruce can throw money at a situation to get a club out of the Championship so can anyone else.
yes !
WHOO Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooo ;)Glad you’re happy.
That being said you do come across easily pleased.
Not sure what there was left to agree Whelan was open about the figure Everton just had to pay it…
Hopefully we can crack on now and have a new manager in by the end of the week.

Clue is in the title.
He wants a return to the PL.
I was that impressed with him I think he would be selling himself short of a starting place in any top league in the world.
Schwarzer would definitely be worth a punt if he does not agree a new Fulham contract.
That aside an Al-Habsi / Lee Nicholls partnership is not something to fear.
he has told sky sports that he is still at united and will report for duty July 1st.
I don’t think this one will come to be but I could be wrong.
looks like it is a fish supper in the Garswood household tonight…
I really am concerned that Whelan is the reason that Roberto has left, I think he was being asked to carry on without much financial support and without being able to bring in many new faces.
That is is a fair point if you are to read between the lines of Whelan’s statement on Martinez asking to leave.
Without being a fly on the wall we will never know but for speculations sake and depending on which way you look at it then it could be seen as a case of either :
a.) Whelan being “tight” and only offering a budget that Roberto feels is inadequate to put us in the strongest reasonable position to go straight back up.
b.) Roberto asking for investment outside of the clubs finances to cover the large amount of transfers needed to cope with the amount of games we have next season.
Personally I don’t think WHhelan takes a large amount from the club in terms of salary a for the job he does but then again I wouldn’t blame him if he did compensate himself in this manner for the work and investment he has obviously done for the club over the years and continues to do.
So again reading between the lines I think Roberto has possibly thought if I am going to stay I want to compete in Europe, FA CUP, and the league while keeping up the standards of our football from last season (obviously a point of opinion if this would be good enough to win the championship) which when you think of the amount of players actually needed between now and the start of the season is it going to be a massive task without competitive budgets to those around us.
That’s all you needed to say Salford. Up to that bit.
I do believe the rest of it…….Was indeed…………………………………………………….. A load of SHITE! and means nothing to any of us unless you are a chairman :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
Was just to make the point Whelan isn’t quite the rich sugar daddy happy to get his rudders milked that some our fans seem to take him for.

If you take a look at some of the owners estimated wealth compared to Whelan it really does paint a picture of what we will always be up against as a club in or outside the Premier league.
Wigan Athletic – Dave Whelan £190m
QPR – Tony Fernandes 66% stake £208m – Lakshmi Mittal 33% stake £11,800m
Reading – Anton Zingarevich 51% stake £3,460m – Sir John Madejski 48% stake £175m
Nottingham Forest – Kuwait The Al Hasawi Family £2,200m
Ipswich – Marcus Evans £625m
Bristol City – Stephen Lansdown £557m
Blackburn Rovers – alaji & Venkatesh Rao £500mObviously none of us are in the know as to the clubs exact finances but if you consider we will get £24 million next season as a parachute payment (dont know if that is the figure) instead of roughly £60 million last season from Sky that leaves us running at a loss of £36 million before a penny is spent or a season tickets is not bought and I can take a punt at the fact the wage bill wont be decreasing anywhere near £692,000 per week to cover that loss.
When Roberto has said he doesn’t feel he would be equipped to take us back up he may possibly have a point.
Bruce had the nerve to jump ship before it had even sunk leaving Birmingham to get relegated while joining us.
At least Martinez had the decency to see out the season.
In a thread titled lightside/darkside you said this about bruce leaving Birmingham to come to WAFC.
He was on the rocks. I cant remember the ins and outs of it all but the new owner came in made it public they didnt want him but didnt seem to have the money to pay up his contract so it all became a bit embarassing….Would you like a moment to decide which version you want to use next.
You’re making a habit of cutting quotes to fit your argument old man.
Lets complete the statement shall we.
He was on the rocks. I cant remember the ins and outs of it all but the new owner came in made it public they didnt want him but didnt seem to have the money to pay up his contract so it all became a bit embarassing….
In all honesty I may have made some of the above up in my head as I have been known to do but I am sure it was something along those lines and he was happy as larry to get the job.
A quick look on Bruce’s wikipedia clears up what I was running along the lines of…
“In May 2007, Birmingham’s board agreed a new contract for Bruce, but the unwillingness of the club’s prospective purchaser Carson Yeung to ratify it left his future uncertain”
He still jumped a sinking ship mid season from being in contract and I really don’t get why you think that that the above contradicts my first statement in your reply?
But then again you do talk nonsense.
Told you, you’re not going to change my opinion, so save your countering for someone who is arsed. ;)
If anything has been proven right, it is martinez has the same values of loyalty as Bruce has been accused of many, many times on here.
Hardly, Martinez didn’t run off the first time something didn’t suit or somebody else came along with a better offer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely disappointed and surprised that Martinez has decided to go now, but I don’t hold it against him. His loyalty is to himself at the end of the day, certainly not to a bunch of no-mark pricks who have tried to run him out of town for the last four years – no offence.
So when bruce put “himself” first a bunch of “no-mark pricks” went into a feeding frenzy of hatred against him and relished in his ultimate demise at sunderland, but now the shoe is on the same foot with martinez he is forgiven.
The words double standards don’t do you justice.
One thing in the bruce v martinez ability debate which is undeniable, bruce never “bottled” the challenge of getting a team back up that he was responsible for relegating, unlike lilly livered martinez.
Bruce had the nerve to jump ship before it had even sunk leaving Birmingham to get relegated while joining us.
At least Martinez had the decency to see out the season.
I like the thought of Meulensteen because I’m sure a few of the Utd coaches would follow and they’ve not done too bad a job.Indeed!
It is likely that at least Jones and Bergara will follow Martinez out of the club.
Phelan and Steele as replacements wouldnt be too shabby at all!
I think the important thing due to the amount of players we need to sign between now and the start of the season is to get someone in ASAP.
conservatories posh? and I thought I lived in the shit hole
