God forbid anyone should make a joke about the size of a club.

Because we have never had to put up with that have we….

in reply to: The most depressing day of my life? #113500

Not half as arsed about getting relegated as losing out on over 6K

I am actually really optimistic and looking forward to the future of Wigan Athletic.

• We are financially secure
• The development of the training complex is in motion and as such adds to the long term security of the club in terms of being to develop playing staff from the youth team
• Even if a large portion of players leave we still have the biggest amount of young upcoming players the club has ever seen in my time who will surely relish an opportunity to play in the Championship next season e.g. Nicholls, Golobart, Fyvie & Dicko + Mcmanaman!!

First of all I am looking forward to a break from football and then a break from Premier League football ( We will of course bounce back at first time of asking)

I am sick to death of arguing with United fans, City fans and most importantly our own fans.

I am sure whatever changes that happen in regards to coaching and playing staff will be in continuation of the brilliant work done over the past 20 years.

Lets not forget (should the worst happen re Roberto) Whelan has a good record in picking managers for us.

Sin Miedo my amigos and see you in August!

in reply to: Surely he can’t play Caldwell ever again after… #113070
He has either

A) confirmed he is not up to playing at this level ever again, or

B) and this is more likely, is getting the excuses in now before Saturday. And playing on bobs sentimentality in getting another season as club captain, the ‘good ol’ war horse’. It’s a shame, but his fitness and pace have caught up with him. And he was far better than me!

I fear the answer is B). His own words in an interview with sky below.

http://m.skysports.com/article/football/yourclub/8702593?compid=263&teamid=457

Wigan captain Gary Caldwell is willing to play through the pain barrier to lead the team out in the FA Cup final.
The Latics take on Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday but Caldwell is struggling to be there as he battles the chronic hip injury that has disrupted his season.
“I’ve had to manage a difficult injury,” the 31-year-old Scot told the Daily Record. “The hip I had surgery on three years ago has been playing up for nine months.
“I had a steroid injection last week which has helped it a little bit so hopefully that will help me get through the next few weeks. It looks like I’ll need surgery on it again over the summer.
“I have not trained properly for six months. When I do I have to take an injection and I get two of them to help me through games.
“It’s been hard because I want to contribute, I want to help, but if you are not 100 per cent there’s no point being on the park.
“The gaffer has been great. He said he’ll use me whenever he feels I can contribute and help the team. Hopefully, he feels that way on Saturday.
“I can’t do the hip any more harm in the long term. The damage is done. I will see the surgeon again at the end of the season to discuss the next step.
“It’s all about what kind of mobility I’m going to have with it – and what pain I can take. It’s wear and tear on the joint.
“But I would take an injection to play on Saturday. I’d do it any week if it takes a bit of the pain away and means I’m able to help the team. I’m happy to do that.”

Not sure the answer to your question is B) I would go with  and possibly :silly:

If you believe he is so obsessed with gaining notoriety from the internet are you not just aiding him to do so by constantly berating him on here with stories of his past endeavours?

Matter of the fact is he is playing nice on here.

If he doesnt I am sure the Mod’s and powers that be will pick up on it and deal with it as they see fit.

Nobody likes an internet warrior and you are coming across as an internet vigilante fighting the force of evil :)

No Ali for me I want to see Robles in the final.

He will get his chance again next season.

Just had a flick through a warriors form.

They were discussing how our relegation would effect them as a rugby club.

While they seem confident there would be no rent increase as they pay a fixed percentage of their gate receipts to use the stadium one of them made a cracking point in that if we get relegated they can forget about having the pitch relaid every year!

Seems to be a 50/50 split of those that wish us well in our endeavours and those that don’t.

Dave, why will it affect us so badly if we lose out on the TV money for being in the prem?

A very good question John!

My understanding is that as a club we will still be financially secure as the majority of the TV money is spent on Premier League wages which IF we get relegated will drop considerably.

None the less with the increase of approx. £10 million in revenue per PL club next season the worry is it will create a bigger gap between the quality of the Premier League and Championship and we would like to be on that ship when it sails.

Then again its a strong possibility that the quality wont increase at all but players will still be paid more especially by the clubs coming up who some times have to offer that bit extra to secure a target.

Hopefully the likes of Crystal Palace will have the common sense to put in the essential clauses that we are reported to have in our players and staffs contracts.

God forbid they should find themselves in financial trouble again and have to write off another considerable chunk of their tax bill to HMRC so the rest of us can pick up the difference.

Yes, this is Wigan Athletic and it wouldn’t surprise me if you were right !

Afterall, there’s nowt to lose on Saturday; just play with freedom, sneak a win ( my prediction is 1-0 with either Gomez or Scharner scoring )against all odds ! Then a resurgent Latics goes on to stay up ! That would be proper Boys Own / Roy of the Rovers Stuff !

I’M all for that how much would that piss folk off not only in our own town but the country media goodpost goodpost
Why our own town? you having a pop again at fans that know their stuff? Our biggest problem is ourselves this season as we consistently give soft goals away. Fringe players are poor as was on show last night.
Most fans on here want us to stay up but but are realistic. We got away with poor defending against West Brom but not last night.
Why do the people who hand criticism out after a result know any more than the rest of us?

in reply to: Premature but who would your next manager be ? #112994

Ole is a good shout. But seriously I would like Jones to stay and continue the good work in place on and off the field.

After snooping around around a couple of Everton message boards today they actually seem to be quite understanding of the fact if Roberto takes over then the first season may be quite hard while he rebuilds the squad and imprints his philosophy

Shame our fans were not as understanding in his first season.

But they do say you only realise how much you miss something once its gone :(

Is that the one who used to take his teeth out when we scored?

The abuse is probably something to do with the fact they are always supping outside that sports bar for 2 hours before every match!

in reply to: Come on then – FA Cup Final predictions #112945

6-0 to us.

Caldwell to be solid as a rock.

The fans at Old Trafford are planning to salute Sir Alex Ferguson at his final home game with a round of applause in the 98th minute.

in reply to: last 2 games scenario #112911
Well if you were QPR would you want to beat Newcastle and further enhance the chances of them being in the same league as you next season with the record they have of coming straight back up ! I think Newcastle and Norwich will get at least a point a piece over the weekend which would make the trip to The Emirates a hell of a tough cookie !

They did it once! they are hardly taking the yoyo title off West Brom are they…

But buying in to your losing games on purpose theory for a second if QPR were to say well do we want Newcastle or Wigan to come down with us surely they would be mental to pick the team that will keep the majority of its players i.e. us over the team that will lose half the squad the manager and have little investment from the owner.

Chris Hughton did well to get them up last time, I dont think they would be as lucky if they went again.

And not for a second am I buying into this we would suddenly become a mid table team in the championship.

Nothing to suggest if we went down we wouldnt still line up with Maloney Kone and Mcmanaman across the front.

Arseholes would be torn in the Championship ! Its a tough league physically but there wouldnt be half as much pace or threat from counter attacks as has been a problem for us this season.

in reply to: And defenders fit? #112908

I have been laying into Stam all season which IMO has been fully justified.

I do however feel sorry for him if the reports are right he has broke his leg with his impending contract expiry.

I am sure Roberto would allow him to train and regain his fitness if required but I doubt a new contract was ever on the cards and based on this years performances the absolute best he could hope for is a return to Holland.
