now is not the time to be throwing the likes of Golobart in.

Oh I don’t know about that. He looked pretty good vs Hudersfield (wasn’t it?) and a damn site more solid than that flyweight Lopez. We took a punt on young Callum, and his youthful exuberance has shone through. Why not Roman’s? Got to be better than tortoise Caldwell and maybe even tired Scharner.
Huddersfield and Stoke ( as mentioned by Lostock Hall ) couldnt be further away from the likes of Tottenham & Swansea in terms of attacking threats..

He looks confident on his feet and I am a big admirer of the Pink Iguana so please dont get me wrong but he worried me V Macclesfield when they were moving the ball around fast and trying to take him on.

Funnily enough he got away with flattening them a couple of times flash forward the likes of Bale etc. taking him on he will either have a nightmare or see cards.

Of course its all my own opinion and observations and he could come in and set the world alight but I think its unfair to put such a young lad in such a demanding position against such attacking opposition.

But the mention of Stam coming back in the team by Griff has gave me a sense of desperation on the subject.

Another choice would be to play McCarthy in front of the 2 centre backs as done previously.

If we do end up getting relegated it will be down to the ridiculous unlucky streak of defender injuries.
    .

I think there are a lot more factors contributing than that, and luck shouldn’t really come into it over a league season, a cup exit maybe, but blaming a relegation on bad luck is just hiding from the truth I’m afraid.
Ok then, allow me to rephrase..

If we get relegated it will be down to the fact that we dont have a back up team of premier league players worthy and waiting in the wings should injuries occur that should have been purchased with the money we dont earn from the ridiculously priced season tickets that if were increased to accomodate an extra player or two would no doubt have Wiganers all over spitting their pies out out in disgust.

    And breathe.

in reply to: europa league #110778

    Dont see the problem myself.

Martinez has shown he wont risk league position for the sake of a cup run and I doubt the Europa will be seen in any different light.

It provides fantastic opportunities for players to make a step up in the manner Mcmanaman has this season.

I think there will be a lot of movement in the summer if we stay up or not as I dont hold much hope for the likes of Alcaraz and Figroll signing new contracts but is another attraction to our small club not only for potential first team signings but also young players like Dicko willing to move country for the opportunity.

I can see Martinez now standing outside the Nou Camp as they cut the youth players they dont think are up to scratch.

Step on up, European football with Wigan! Free pie with every signature!

    I’m in block 520!

Snap, we ordered 2 in 520 this morning and chuffed with the view for the price although I didnt shop around.

I am sure we will sell out but I dont see what everyones panic has been about…

Seems to me there will be enough to please season ticket holders plus a few thousand more on the database by the time we get our second lot of tickets.

    in reply to: Alcaraz #110663

    This is terrible news.

Its no big secret our upturn in form coincided with his return to the center of the back 3.

I just cant trust Caldwell against top class strikers anymore.

That being said there is nobody else tried and tested in the center and now is not the time to be throwing the likes of Golobart in.

If we do end up getting relegated it will be down to the ridiculous unlucky streak of defender injuries.

If we had Alcaraz , Scharner and Figroll as theback three all season we would have been around the 10th place mark for sure.

in reply to: Fat Spam Allardyce #110615
I didn’t mean the damp squib end I’m talking about the massive impact we had in our first 19 games that first season!
Tell me a club that has had such a start after being promoted in their first 19 games?

Was it Ipswich’s first season that they qualified for Europe?

Pretty sure they were in the top 3 for the majority of that season…

in reply to: Fat Spam Allardyce #110610

Research or no research, Allardyce has no right to mouth off about us when his own team are not in Year 1 by any stretch and have been relegated once, BY US, during the 8 years we’ve been maintaining our first ever stay.

I have no argument whatsoever with that, the point I was making is don’t accuse someone of not doing any research, then make a bold statement whilst failing to do the research on that statement themselves.
Jesus Christ ….

LMB condescending towards another poster for not knowing what he is talking about what next?

Filmoss telling people they should be more positive?!?!

Deary me he got something wrong, not everyone feels the need to triple google every statement they make! If you had asked me I would have said we finished above them that season!

    in reply to: VILLA #110609

Yup , I hope utd open the flood gates second half not only for the goal difference but to crush their spirits

All games are must win ones when you are in the bottom three with five games to go.

By your logic shouldnt every game be a “must win” game from start of season to finish?

Getting to a point where we should be asking for the ball to go in the oppositions net more often arent we…

    in reply to: Scharner #110112
If you’er sugesting Boyce dropping back to make a back 4 then I’d say that would be a mistake given what happened vs Liverpool.

Be interesting to see if Ben Watson makes the bench though to give us something different in midfield .

Pass me that tin hat fella.

Ben Watson was immense for us before his injury.

His period of bench warming certainly did him good and based on that short stint of performances I would of had him in the team every week over McCarthur.

If after his injury though he is back to frequently mis-hitting his passses another bench warming session may be in order.

    in reply to: Scharner #110107

Problem is with West Ham they will try to play the wide game hoping they can get Carroll to cause problems in the air.

We seem to struggle against any team with width.

A problem that I think City will look to expose come the final and I will bet a penny to a pound of sh*t that Milner starts on the right.

Another sterling footballing contribution from Cockneylatic’s wannabe funny man JohnDoe…

No he didn’t do everything perfect but he made some game saving tackles.

No way back for Caldwell I am afraid.

There was no intended humour in my post Salford, I don’t think it’s funny, in my opinion he’s rubbish and cost us a point, you think he’s great and made game saving tackles (even though we lost?) all opinions my friend.
If we concentrated on results and not performance Martinez would of been sacked in his first season.

Thank god the officials running the club have the perspective to see beyond a result.

    Europe here we come!!!!
I do see beyond a result Salford, it was a really good performance tonight, deserved something from the game no doubt about it, I don’t think Scharner just had a bad game though, I just think he’s poor, Saturday was the same, he’s not a very good player and there’s a good chance that silva will tear him a new one at wembley, not good enough in my book, should have left him where he was.
I can respect a footballing argument when I see one as everyone is entitled to their opinion!

None the less I completely disagree (shock horror)

The alternative is Caldwell who I have to reluctantly say is not up to the job at all.

The mobility of Scharner and Figroll allows Alcaraz to sit deep and be the ball stopper which is IMO when we see the best of him!

in reply to: Didn’t deserve that !!! #109861
well just have to be happy stuffing them at Wembley!!!

Will that be in spite of Martinez?

Sorry, I know … lets all be happy.

    I just cant resist a dig can I :P

Surprised you’ve been reeled in by this mon
Haha a fair comment mate :cheer:

I’m too easy to take a bite on this board but you have to be ready for one major battle while reeling me in ;)

in reply to: Man City…. Gutted. #109851

I have contrasting thoughts on tonight’s performance in terms of going into the FA cup final…

On one hand you could say we have proven we can compete with them and can go to Wembley with a realistic chance of lifting the FA cup (still think the white jackets will take me away for saying things like that)

On the other hand there wont be a player or member of staff at city who will take us lightly on the back of this performance come the final.
