I would say that is based on club form of which Baines is by far the more in form player to date.

Baines has been statistically better than cole for the past 3 seasons.
And this season he is without a doubt one of the top performers in the PL.
I dont care how many medals Cole has got, that is all in the past.
Baines is the here and now LB and if he is not a shoe in for the England team based on his current form then I would seriosuly question the selection process for England.The “professionals” in and around the England set up are constantly bemoaning a lack of prospect of young players coming into the team yet when players like Zaha at tin pot clubs like Crystal Palace will never get a look in you can see where that problem comes from ;)

While I dont want to compare one event to the other there were a few people in Wigan seeing their arse when Jewell was trying to sign Shaun Goater..

I would say Figs best attribute is his ability to bring the ball out of defence and link up with or support Jean on the left.
I do agree he is an athlete of a man but he would never cut it at the centre of the three defenders IMO.
Stam might be in line for some more game time…
But if he is I would not have liked it to have been against Everton they would have torn him a new arse hole.

Jeremy Forrest, aged 30you disagree with me disagreeing with yosser, well i disagree with you :dry:no seriously though,, i think losing hugo and diame was always going to impact on our strength in depth and i think we benefitted from the first 11 knowing they had quality sat on the bench waiting to step in.
the back end of last season was indeed a run of epic proportions. looking at it though we did have a little luck on our side and under those circumstances we played very well. That didnt automatically give us a target of mid table finish. Id love us to be challenging for that but when all is said and done… avoiding relegation (all beit alittle more comfortable than last few seasons) in my eyes is still our main goal.
my initial grip though was with it being pathetic that we should be involved in a relegation battle. a little cockey maybe on some fans part.

I just disagree that a relegation battle should be considered anywhere near our objectives this season.
I know the constraints we face as a club and I have defended Martinez’s actions and results on this basis a number of times.
But after 3 years to assemble the squad which he is very happy with (and so am I) now is the time to push on.
No doubt the club would of been sold to Kone on this basis and we all know we have the team has the potential to acheive this goal.
If we are not 100% committed that we are to reach mid table then we may as well not bother trying IMO.
