I think it’s ironic that a club like Aston Villa should consider Roberto Martinez to be managerial potential, seemingly preferred to Alex McLeish, yet he is considered useless by many who post on here.
So to all those detractors, would you prefer to see McLeish here rather than Martinez?I’m with you Yosser. I thought he was a decent enough player but for some reason, which I could never fathom, got a lot of undeserved stick.
Nicky Eden was another who to took a lot of unwarranted stick despite being in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2002-2003 season, when we were promoted from the second divison with 100 points.
What concerns me more is that it smacks of a bit of desperation by the club to be even considering Diouf and sends out a message that despite all the talk from Martinez that he was satisfied with the squad we don’t have enough strength in depth to cover for just one of our injured strikers.

don’t know what sammy was watching at the start of the game.Diame may well have started on the left side of midfield in a 4-5-1 formation but it’s stretching things a bit to suggest he was playing on the left wing!
I was responding to your comment about Diame being played as a left-winger which by any stretch of the imagination did not happen yesterday.

I was obvious to anyone with a modicum of football knowledge that we were being overrun in midfield in the first half and that’s why Martinez changed it to 3-5-2 for the second half. Of course you could argue he should have changed it earlier but that would have meant subjecting Gomez to the now obligatory barrage of abuse which comes his way when he’s subbed.The system was working well until the sending off so I suppose I find myself agreeing with LMB here.
Now where’s my medication!And a special mention for the “fan” sat behind me who was boring everyone to death by slagging off the team and the manager from the kick-off and got all aggressive and abusive when he was confronted about it, thereby confirming what a no-mark wimp he really is.
I really don’t know why some people bother!
