bronx dont you know that none of this is “BOB’S” fault, it is people like you and me typing negative things like this on fanzine message boards.
That is the real reason we are leaving the premier league without an ounce of fight, not beloved bobby.Who exactly is claiming that the position Wigan Athletic find themselves in at the moment is none of ‘BOB’S’ fault.
no problem with any of that –
but can you please explain to those of us on the ‘darkside’ that dont seem to be as far-sighted as you – how you explain the, boring, unadventurous, mistake ridden, slow rubbish served up by martinez, or better still,
why,
despite the fact that martinez and his brand of football has taken us to the edge of the premiership precipice, has he not once changed it around or tried something different when it clearly not working – and that stubborn inability to adapt is why he is the worst manager in the premiership. It could be that Martinez, his staff and the players are just not good enough.
No point changing anything now though, not that it would have been changed anyway because Whelan has put a stake in the ground and said Martinez is here for the long haul.
I also think the plan comes first and the manager second and I doubt Whelan would find another manager willing to buy into his plan in the same way.Oh, and I don’t claim to be anymore far-sighted than you or anyone else. It’s just my opinion and I won’t get worked up about it if people have a different opinion to mine.
i am still here after all the protagonists at the time are distant memories and i will be here, hopefully, after martinez has long gone – dont you dare tell me to get behind the club because i have been behind this club since i was a nipper -it will not stop me expressing my disgust at the buffon in charge now, just as i did when pye and bates were dragging the club down. The fact that you have supported the club since way back, joining supporters groups, attending meetings, etc., etc., does not make your opinion any more valid than others.
Wigan Athletic is a now million miles away from what went on back then. Whelan has decided that he cannot or will not invest in the club to the degree in which he has done previously. The Wigan public, despite having the opportunity to watch cheap Premiership football, has shown no desire to support the club beyond what seems to be about a 12,000 fan base.
Bruce left because of the limitations he had to work under. There was no real youth policy and no interest in developing the structure of the club below the first team level. Established Premiership players were acquired wherever possible and paid salaries beyond the means of the club.
So Whelan decided to cut his cloth and appointed a manager who shared his views on how the club had to change. Some of those changes can be seen. The club is in the process of reducing the wage bill by off-loading the high earners, young players with potential have been signed and the reserves are performing better.Wigan Athletic will always struggle in the Premiership for the reasons mentioned. We could have an Allardyce, Pulis or McCarthy as manager and still get relegated but if relegation does happen this season I, for one, would sooner it be under the current regime rather than those previously tried alternatives.
Did I mention Thomas in a positive way?
I do believe Thomas is a more effective man-marker than Watson and more effective protecting the back-four in that holding role.
The biggest reason is the latent racism that prevails in Wigan.
Suave, intelligent foreigner? Easy target really, in Wigan
Racism!!!!! come on Griff it’s his ability as a manager people have a problem with. He was idolised as a player so may be it’s not racism :o :o :o
I don’t really think it is racism. Jeez, there’s some gullible folk on here.
And the word gullible isn’t even in the dictionary.(let’s see what happens)
Vat i think your on the wind up or your just a fool. watson was a load of pi.ssy wank in the match.his corner taking is a joke and if you think he had one of his best games for the latics then the men in white coats are going to be breaking down your door and taking you away!!. one corner he over hit ha ha ha ha . what about the other lame corners he took that never even beat the 1st man. his forward passing well a utd player just moped them up al day long. i don’t get you. your a enigma to me Dave!
You are the fool. You’ve obviously not got a clue.
You criticize his forward passing? So it’s nothing to do with a distinct lack of movement from such likes as Nzogbia, who was poor, and Moses then? Or maybe they were just well marked by a better class of opposition, eh? Corners? 90% of his corners were alright, yesterday. On the ball, he looked assured and composed. Best I’ve seen him, actually.
Thanks Sammy and Griff for backing up my theory on Watson. Our best player…..and yet he gets slated.
I thought he played well in that holding role and although he’s not as an effective “stopper” as Thomas, which left us exposed at the back at times, his distribution is far better.
I lost count the number of times he went forward with the ball looking for a pass with no movement ahead of him, so it invariably went sideways. Not that I condone this type of behaviour of course but this made me chuckle, taken from The Citizen (Chorley free paper):-
“…. and a police horse was allegedly headbutted during fighting between football hooligans….
A 37-year-old Chorley man has been charged with a Section 4 public order (offence) and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.”Don’t know what the horse did wrong but it must have been some head-butt. :confusion-seeingstars:
Can someone explain to me What was the point of bringing on two subs with 1 minute left :roll:Damage limitation and to waste time, although the cynic in me would say it was to ensure Gomez got his first team pay.
The first half was a decent watch.
So what was said at the break?
Ferguson told them to get their fingers out.Reminds me of many of Bullard’s attempts: although I’m sure at least some of them were successful.Either way I’m sick of spouting the phrase: “BEAT THE FIRST MAN!”
I don’t think Watson’s corners are better or worse than anybody else’s.
The idea is to hit them hard and flat so you have to get them spot on to beat the first man everytime, who is put there for the specific task of stopping that happening. From what I was told he didn’t do that much celebrating, just applauded the goal, although a bit silly to make himself known he was a United fan, nonetheless.
I’d have been more upset with the stewards and police for blocking my view of the match, had I been one of those sat behind them while they faffed about deciding what to do.They didnt miss much !!
The first half was a decent watch.I’m with you Sammy – though I wouldn’t have picked on Alcaraz especially.I thought Alcaraz was a fault for the second and third goals. For the second goal he wasn’t strong enough and lost a challenge he should won and for the third goal he was trying to play the offside trap in United’s half!
When you compare his performance with that of Vidic….. (I know, I know). From what I was told he didn’t do that much celebrating, just applauded the goal, although a bit silly to make himself known he was a United fan, nonetheless.
I’d have been more upset with the stewards and police for blocking my view of the match, had I been one of those sat behind them while they faffed about deciding what to do.Quite baffled by this condemnation of Watson who I thought had a decent game today.
The real villians where Gohouri and Alcaraz, both of whom were dreadful.Must be a good job that, being paid to watch games again and take note of how many passes, corners, fouls, etc. Not sure what the pay would be like, but I admit I wouldn’t mind doing that for a job.Unless it was £6.50 an hour, that is.
Oh, I don’t know. It’s just the job for you VAT. A nice little earner to supplement your singing career.
