I think Nathan Byrne isn’t far behind but he get less credit.

Considering our current financial position, is a transfer embargo in the summer a real possibility?

League one isn’t covered by the Financial Fair Play. It is governed by the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP). This protocol states that clubs relegated from the championship can spend no more than 75% of turnover on wages. We are currently operating at around 300%.

The penalty for over spending is a transfer embargo. If we fail in our bid for promotion then this SCMP penalty will apply to us, unless, the club owners make a one off cash injection which can count towards turnover. This cash injection would need to be in the region of 12Million to bring down the wage/turnover percentage.

I’m starting to fully appreciate why the Whelan family are selling up.

But don’t you know, the Whelans have made a stash of money out of Wigan Athletic and are jumping ship with the crown jewels while the going’s good? ;)
No, Dave Whelan, a shrewd and successful business man has owned and ran Latics for 23 years, without making any money at all for himself. He has done it out of the goodness of his own heart.

He is basically the Oskar Schindler of Wigan. He even took Pat’s fur collection to the ‘clothes for cash’ on Pem, so he could pay off Warren Joyce. Almost Saintly.
Whelan hasn’t made a penny from the club. Quite the opposite.

But he’s a vain man and by owning Wigan Athletic he’s bought himself fame and the chance to get himself in the national press and on TV every week – something being owner of a chain of sport shops could never do.

Maybe he did invest so much money for the love his town and the people etc, but the cynic in me says he also did it just as much for the adulation he’d receive in doing so.

Does anyone know yet whether we can pay on the day?

Bound to be Horc as we won’t sell many tickets. Not many people are interested in the cup these days.
Hopefully we can attract our normal league home support.
Probably be pay on the day but it could be just tickets available on the day.
Who knows? Communication could help.
Communication, c’mon this is Latics. They’ll probably let us know at the very last minute, and if you can’t pay on the day, it will be too late for a lot of people to be able to get one.
I understand why they do it as they want to sell as many tickets as possible without having to rely on pay on the door fans. I just wish they would announce it earlier.
I hope they allow us to pay on the turnstile so we don’t have to queue for ages waiting for the the usual interrogation from the incompetent gits at the ticket office.
Being deadly serious here:

If you’re definitely going, why not buy your ticket online in advance rather than having to go to the ticket office?

Again, it’s a serious question and sorry if I’m missing a salient point here.

That’s a bit forward of you. At least let him buy you a drink first!

There are some serious ‘new fan’ dislikers on Vital …… what does that say??

And there are some new fans who are on groups on Facebook etc who need taking down a peg or two. One lifelong fan, Derek Tinsley, a lot will know him from when he had the programme hut at Springfield, well he was getting stick and abuse the other day because he said he can no longer afford to go to games. Derek had been a real loyal fan since 1974,and his dad had been groundsman at Springfield Park.

Seeing him getting stick off people who have been going not that long, really cheesed me off, being honest. Not one person knew who he was… If they went at Springfield, they would have done.
Don’t fall for what Derek says. He posts on there to wind people up and get a rise.

He was saying he can’t afford to go to matches, but a few posts later was saying how he was at the Bournemouth away game.

I’d take what he posts on there with a pinch of salt.
He’s got relatives who live in Bourmemouth, thats how he came to go to it. He is a genuine long time Supporter, I can vouch for him.
Yes, I know who he is.

But he’s a wind-up merchant on Facebook.

That was the day I shook hands with the great man himself.

Thanks Nuneaton. Don’t remember it myself, but thanks anyway….

in reply to: Powell in demand #165212

Doubt Powell’s going anywhere.

He’s go no ambition and doesn’t want to leave the north west, plus he nearly quit football two seasons ago because he couldn’t be bothered with the pressure.

Promotion is worth a lot more to us than £1.5m so if he goes anywhere, I’ll be very surprised.

in reply to: Ridiculous team selection tonight #165160
Pathetic. No excuses.

Cook out! Pathetic 3-0 win

in reply to: Up top #164986
Nobody will go from the first choice 13 or so who is required next season in the championship.

Exactly.

Promotion is more lucrative than selling the odd player.

Vaughan looks a done deal, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another couple of players coming in – possibly on loan.

in reply to: Here we foo kin go #164770
Yeah sell him, then watch all the sellers go into meltdown when our lead at the top slips and we fall into the play offs.

Passenger  Folk used to say that about Stuart Barlow as he was scoring a ponful

Different class to anything else in the league.

Without Powell’s goals we’d be in 6th place.

And I agree that selling him could possibly end our promotion push.

Can’t see it happening myself.

in reply to: Dave Whelan #164725
They all tried to brand sir dave as a racist.ffs.lets just look over the wall at the bigger picture. Fairplay to griff.bet he doesn’t miss coming on ere either.lol.

What on earth are you going on about?!

Dianne Abbott and Sadiq Khan didn’t get involved in the Whelan Saga! Are you thinking of Lisa Nandy? She did.

in reply to: Dave Whelan #164722
I don’t need to .You do the research.you got more time on your hands.by the way where is your side kick..?.

I wanted to hear what you’d found so offensive about they’d been doing or saying.

My side-kick? Do you mean Griff? He doesn’t even come on here to lurk these days.

in reply to: Dave Whelan #164720
There has been far worse things said than what Mr Whelan said that’s for sure.a certain mayor Mr Khan. And that racist Diane abbot….?

So basically, two people who aren’t white?

Go on: elaborate?
