The club has billions to spend after scrapping the trip to Spain but need to sell to recoup the losses from gate receipts as ticket prices are slashed to 3 and 6.
Paul Jewell replaces Paul Cook and immediately reverts back to a 442 formation with a “big un and a little un” up front.
Fans flock from far and wide as a friendly a day is played in July with tickets priced at 1 and 6. The club loses millons and the players are all out injured before the season starts.
Jewell therefore spends £800 million in the transfer market 2 days before the season starts and is sacked for not having his squad together by May 1st.
Never understood your obsession with playing 9000 friendlies Donny. They’re only fitness exercises anyway. Just an excuse to watch a game of footy (usually a boring one)
Is it because in 1952 when everyone played 442 and lumped it to the big man that they used to play 9000 friendlies when everyone was part time and couldn’t do the levels of training they do today to keep fit?

They banned drinking in the stands at the Grand Final after a few fights involving Saints fans. I remember being on a Saints messageboard and people were saying they were Utd and Liverpool fans. Why would they be at Saints v Leeds??
Reducing the running costs still won’t increase the transfer bill as then you have to increase the wage bill as well.
If we opt to use the money we do have for wages and sign players on a free then that is good business. Otherwise we have to reduce the wage bill and then try and sign someone who wants a pittance. Isn’t going to happen.
That’s why clubs will say “We can only buy if we sell” but still find wages for freebies or loans
A club having money and having money to spend in the transfer window are two totally different things.
