I didn’t realise we were operating a 1 in 1 out system.

So you think that we will keep all 4 strikers and the forwards at the club will be happy with that ?

Do you want to buy some magic beans ?
I don’t give a toss if they’re happy about it TBH. We need competition for places so the more the merrier.

Well he has a better record than Grigg does in this division.

Who says he isn’t coming in to replace Vaughan who is off to Oxford, or perhaps as a 4th striker as opposed to 3?

These stand off deals rarely get done before the very last minute purely to bump up the cost.

There was even mention of Vaughan to Oxford which I very much doubt.
If the club sell Grigg that decision will be one made solely by Cook no one else based on what type of player he requires.

They say the manager knows best and in most cases I tend to agree but in the case of Cook and not just the Grigg saga I’m not so sure.

Too many players have totally frozen out for it not to be a personal thing and too many of Cooks signings near and over the age of 30.

Youth system ? Pointless, not one of those that show promise will ever break through to the first team while Cooks here,

That’s unless they stay at the club until thier 30

And before some smart arse jumps in with the “they might not be good enough” it’s about mixing and training with the first team. Travelling to games sticking on the bench 5-10 mins here and there not get fookin lumps wacked out of them in League One or Two.

Unless the board says “sorry Paul, we can’t turn down the cash”

Maybe people should wait till Grigg is actually sold before they start stamping their feet. Otherwise they may end up looking more silly than usual.

Exactly. So far all I have seen and heard is that 4 bids have been rejected and Cook has said he isn’t for sale.

And why is everyone so sure that Powell is going?

Some would argue that league 1 is Griggs level

some would say that about our manager too.
Indeed and maybe it is but we probably won’t know until the end of the season.

He has played over 40 games and scored 8 goals, most of which have been from the spot. He didn’t score in about 20 games.

I do feel he will score goals at this level given the service but his record doesn’t actually suggest that, and in the current side he isn’t/won’t get the service so Cook has gone with another option. That doesn’t mean he wants to sell him or that he doesn’t like him.

Even worse, what if Grigg goes to Sunderland, they go up, we go down and Grigg scores double figures in thier promotion push.

Now that, would! drive fans insane

And what if he then fails at Sunderland next season in the Championship?

As Stu says, there is evidence to suggest he can’t do it at this level on a regular basis. Yes he scores the odd goal against City etc but his stats at this level don’t match those in League One. Is he lucky that he is in a good League One side and unlucky that he is in a crap Championship side?

Agree with both sides. Changing our style has cost us massively but if not all your players are the same type of player then you have little choice really.

I think he is supposed to be playing the Nick Powell role.

I agree you pick your best XI but you pick your best XI based on the tactics and style of play you are looking to play.

As we have no wingers and are playing more direct, Grigg isn’t our best striker for that role.

I’d like to see him play iff of Vaughan or Garner though as I’ve said before.

This is s problem with the modern game its too technical and not as easily adaptable. There are too many specialized positions and roles today. As much as I despise Man Ure you have to big up Solksjaer for taking them back to how they did things pre Van Gaal and Moanrinho.
You’re probably right. Days gone by you had an XI you picked it and it played the same way every week. Nowadays your side can change depending on who you play, where you play and whether you’re expected to win or not. Very few managers keep the same side week after week especially in the top leagues.

I think Blackett would play LB if he signs. Kipre and Dunkley in the middle unless we sign Fox as well

But it’s a 100% Cook decision to leave him on the bench when fit, IEC don’t pick the match day starting 11.

I’m pretty sure Cook will have some say in who he wants come Feb. He’s made it quite Grigg ain’t one of them based on his recent team selections.

Disagree entirely as Cook has already said himself.

Will Grigg is a striker who feeds off balls into the box and being in the right place at the right time. Basically, if you give him the ball in the 6 yard box he will score.

The team we have out at the moment minus all of our creative players in Powell, Jacobs (granted on the way back now) and Massey means that we can’t play to that system so playing Grigg is completely and utterly pointless because he isn’t a player who can try to bully the defender and fight for every ball like Vaughan or Garner can. It would be like trying to fry an egg using a plastic bowl instead of a frying pan.

Unfortunately for Grigg we sign Pilkington and Jacobs comes back and he gets injured AGAIN. I fully expect him to be here come Friday and be a big part of our season once the right players are back and he is back to fitness.
