Called us tics since 90s as have loads of lads. Get over it.
Correct. I’ve always known fans to be referred to as “tics”
I’ve not. It’s LATICS and always will be.
And big Roy,it’s you who needs to get over yourself pal. Whatever your gripe is with me, get over it. If you ever want to meet me for a chat about your obvious problem with me, I’d be happy to do so. If not, quit the snappy sniping replies to anything I post. Cheers
So because you haven’t heard it means it didn’t happen? Maybe its because you live in Skem and not Wigan?
For as long as I can remember Utd fans have been mancs, liverpool and everton have been reds or blues, arsenal fans gooners etc etc and latics fans have been referred to as tics or as it goes in Wigan “he’s a ticsmon”

Looked good early on but was useless in the end. Won’t miss him.
Shove Powell forward and Roberts/Power in his current role. No worse off.
Evans is a big loss though I feel.
He won the corner that led to he goal, infact it should have been a pen.
He also was the one who got done by zabaletta that led to him being sent off. If that’s not noteworthy contribution I don’t know what is.Every player made a contribution but it doesn’t make McManaman a top player. He just had a good day.
If he scored with one of his chances 1st half then we would have probably got stuffed TBH.
I’d have Jorg Smeets back to replace Toney.
Even Jeff Peron and Leigh Jenkinson would be pushing for a game.
Nobody will go from the first choice 13 or so who is required next season in the championship.
I might be way off the mark.A bit like Ivan would be.
HAS to be Massey
”Best wing performance by a player, McManaman, probably since Matthews in 53″Don’t get me wrong, McManaman had Clichy (I think) tied in ribbons during that game but best wing performance since Matthews??? Not in my opinion
On that day Matthews provided crosses for 2 of the goals & his other crosses more often than not met their target.
In our cup final, McManaman got in to numerous excellent positions & messed it up every single time – watch Kone, time after time going mental at him coz he’s hung on to the ball to try & beat another man or get a shot away when others are far better placed. That day he had pace by the bucket load & was full of tricks but he was proper head down & no awareness of what was going on around him.I know I’ll get shot down for saying this as I have before on here but watch the game back & tell me one time where he got himself in to a great position & made the right end decision.
Then you’ll see I’m right!! ;)Agree. Had a few good games in that latter half of the season, but I stand by my “won’t make a PL player as long as he has a hole in his arse” comment.
Thank you again, all of you, for such fantastic replies.
I was hoping you’d all come down on that side of the fence, but hearing (reading) your reminiscing of that day is honestly truly brilliant stuff.
I’ve taken the following from the “Wigan Today” site and was written by Paul Kendrick who reports for Latics in the local rag. I also saw this bit of nonsense and was particularly aggravated by Merson’s complete lack of understanding regarding our FA Cup win and what it meant to Wigan fans.
Having the rare luxury of a couple of days off last weekend, I happened to catch a small segment from Sky’s ‘Soccer Saturday’ programme, that I used to remember as being pretty decent telly.
How things have changed.
With the FA Cup third round taking centre stage, the panel were discussing how important and relevant the famous competition was in this day and age of the Premier League ruling the roost.
“I’ve had a number of tweets from Wigan Athletic fans, telling me they wouldn’t swap their FA Cup win in 2013 for anything,” reported host Jeff Stelling, completely deadpan.
“Their next away game? Crewe,” he added, a smug grin now having well and truly taken over his facial features.
Cue guffawing from the panel of ‘experts’ in the background. I thought Paul Merson was going to wet himself at one point, he was laughing that much. Only Matt Le Tissier seemed to grasp what winning the FA Cup will always mean to a club and a town.
Stelling, who has always prided himself on being a long-suffering Hartlepool fan, should have known better – much better. Openly mocking a standard of football that is above that of his own beloved club and people is poor to say the least.
Indeed, the complete and utter lack of respect shown to Latics, Crewe and lower-league football in general underline exactly what’s wrong with the ‘beautiful’ game at the moment.
Of course since Sky don’t have the rights to the FA Cup the dismissal and mocking of the competition by those involved was no doubt aimed at protecting their own financial self interests.
Stelling showed himself for what he is that day. Hope the non-leagues are treating him well. Bet he would love a cup run.
As for Merson, he’s always been a prick.
FA Cup.
I’m not afraid to admit that I still cry to this day when I watch that goal.
Someone is always peeling onions nearby ;)
Obviously
FA Cup.
We were always going to be relegated from the PL eventually because we just can’t compete financially and TBH personally, staying there was just a case of pissing people off. Even people in our own town wanted to see us relegated.
Winning the cup definitely took the sting of relegation away, but as Garswood said, that trophy (the most famous trophy in the world) will always have the words WIGAN ATHLETIC engraved on it and that can never ever be taken away.
I’m not afraid to admit that I still cry to this day when I watch that goal.
Could still end up away at West Ham though.
Of course I could be wrong on the nudge by the letter of the law, but in my opinion he is entitled to do that.
As Alan Shearer said about the scouse penalty, not every touch is a foul. He doesn’t push him or shove him he nudges him which he is entitled to do. Toney then decides to throw himself to the floor.
I always try and look at a decision like this and reverse it. How would I feel if that was given AGAINST us? I think i’d have been rather annoyed TBH.
