And another two tonight ( as predictable as it was ).
8/1 last goal and 5/2 anytime. Anyone get on it? I bottled out and regretted it massively.
Yes but I also think it shows cautiousness – if we go 1-0 up, why not up the tempo, go for 2-0 up rather than sit back and try to keep hold, we have done this for years and look where it has got us – always seem to be too cautious in my opinion, rather than going for it.I agree with that totally. There was an instance in the second half when the ball dropped from a scramble for Perkins and instead of hitting it from about 8 yards out he passed it back to James who was outside the box and we ended up losing the ball and giving away a free kick.
The problem with the possession game is I always think we’re too concerned on keeping the ball and don’t take those half chances to shoot because we’re afraid of losing the ball. We need to eradicate that and use the best of both styles of play.
I think he is saying that we were trying to force the game when we didn’t have too if you read the full article.
“We managed to get in front, but we didn’t manage the game well in that period.
“We were still trying to score a goal, when keeping possession and working the opposition would have been better.
“We had comfortable possession in full-back areas, but we kept trying to force it through the middle and allowed them back into a game that I don’t think they should have been allowed back into.”
Always too much talk of taking the positives from a game ( Bobby Style ).Here’s a revelation: how about taking the negatives and concentrating on eradicating them, before building on the positives. BOOM !
Absolutely. I was just saying that I didn’t think we were THAT bad and with a few changes here and there (shooting more often as one) then we’ll do well.
I thought we played pretty well in parts. Certainly in the first half we were the dominant side but our shots either went wide or the cross was to nobody.
Once we got the goal it looked like we’d get another but then they equalised and we fell apart. I’m not sure what Morgan was doing for the penalty but it looked straight out of the Gary Caldwell book of defending.
There were certainly some positives to take from the game but I thought we were a little shot shy again which will no doubt be our undoing.
Jesus egg Mon its not like thugby. Six months in the pub then out on the pitch punching the shit out of an opponent. Our side this season will be lucky if they have played 100 minutes apiece pre season. You’re right it’s not. You don’t need to be half as tough.
I take it you can’t find anyone?
How about a dozen games spread amongst a squad of over 25 giving players match time.Players have had match time. Find me a player in our squad that hasn’t featured in pre-season aside from those either injured or signed in the last week.
CONFIRMED: Welcome to Latics, Jussi Jaaskelainen! The Finnish goalkeeper has signed on a one-year deal! How many ‘keepers have we got?
Going to be hard one. Loanees won’t be playing (another reason for not having them). Bury players will actually know each other and played together before. No doubt Caldwell will be using the game to give his journeymen some game time (what should have been done in a proper pre season) but I guess on a well earned nil-nil draw after ninety minutes or a two nil to Bury. But it will just be a practice run out that nobody is worried about apart from 30,000 or so people who went to Cardiff.
I’m keen to know what one of these is….
14,000 pre-season friendlies with 13,500 of them at home.
Common sense at last. Cash turnstiles open for both East and West stands. Hopefully this will be followed by us finding out two strikers will start and the copycat Bob tactics will end.
Following last night’s game:
‘West Brom manager Tony Pulis conceded that he employed the wrong tactics in playing two strikers – Rickie Lambert and Saido Berahino.
“I said to the players after the game I have to take responsibility for this one. I played Saido Berahino and Rickie Lambert and that left the midfield too open. It went against the principles I have always worked to and it has given me a rude awakening. ‘
Yes SW, but what does a highly respected Manager like Tony Pulis know opposed to Donny’s Page?
I certainly don’t swallow everything the club says, but I also don’t criticise their every move and claim that I can run a club better.
Whether Delort started 4 of his 11 appearances or all 11 of them, he looked completely useless and I’m convinced he still wouldn’t have scored had he played 50 games for us. That’s my opinion which will differ from other peoples, but now that Delort has left I couldn’t give a toss how his career progresses.
He didn’t settle in England, he wanted to leave, he wasn’t a great loss. End of story. My concerns now lie with the stats if Will Grigg, Craig Davies and anyone else in this seasons squad.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the last time I looked their wasn’t a DIV1 Training Pitch League.
If he does nothing else but scores goals then he’s done what he’s paid to do.His stats for us were:
Apps 11
Goals 0So he didn’t do what he was paid to do for us. The fact that he didn’t settle in England and wanted to go home probably had something to do with it.
He’s gone now and so have all the others on Horc’s list. Let’s forget about them and move on.
1,600 sold – awaiting another 300Looks like a lot of people are “up” for this season
Lets hope the players are
He’d have been slow enough for this division.
I’m sure I kept getting told last season we needed players who’d fight for the shirt too.
There’s been a lot of bollocks come out of the club mind this last 12 months.
Maybe the club didn’t want to take the risk? Maybe they didn’t want to pay someone hansomly to sit in the stands when we need to slash our wage bill.
I loved Boycie as a player, but there is no sentiment in football/business unfortunately.
And no, I’m not just blindly applauding everything the ckub does, but I’m not just slagging them off either.
To reply to you seriously, my point was I would hope McNaughton and Kirkland were offered a similar deal to the one Boycie turned down, I suppose that stretches to anyone of a similar age to Boyce who we’re signing, who’s obviously done far less for the club.
IMO he was too senior for the “new era” but he like so many others offloaded could have got us off to a good start this season. As it happens we have to hope our completely new squad does something unheard off and gel immediately. Here’s hoping.
I would hope they were as well and I imagine that they were. Kirkland certainly as our 3rd choice.
None of us know how this season will go or how the signings will work out so can’t really predict the outcome, but as fans we have to put our support behind the club and hope for the right result.
