You can tell when a player genuinely goes for the ball and when he doesn’t. McClean went for the ball.
He would struggle to pull out in that split second after the ball goes and was always going to collide with the man whether it was with his leg or his shoulder. The linesman would have still flagged.
The things is though that every challenge in football has some form of contact be it before or after the ball is gone. It’s a contact sport I’m led to believe.
Later in the game McClean was clattered by their defender (full body contact not a knee to the foot) but he had fairly won the ball. You could argue that it’s a foul for following through and sending McClean flying. Difference is Jimmy got up and carried on.
EDIT – Once McClean misses with the foot he intends to make the challenge with he can’t vanish just like you can’t once you’ve won the ball. Unless he deliberately brings that leg in to challenge the player there should be no foul IMO.
I’d be having a sly look at players taking League One by storm. Players like that Garner at Nob End.
They’ll be hungry to come to a Championship club even in our position because if they hack it and we go down then other clubs might come sniffing.
If we do still go down, then we have the players capable of making it in that league.
i dont rate him or like him……Me neither, but his attitude can’t be criticised. If the other players seemed to care as much then we might not be in this position.
Anyone wanting to know why/how Southampton are able to spend far more than Latics did during our time in the top flight just needs to take a look at the most recent Deloitte football rich list – they’re 25th with an income of £125mill in the last financial year.
I’d hazard a guess that even with the current top flight TV income that Latics wouldn’t even come remotely close to that figure
For comparison crystal palace, hull, Cardiff, Norwich, west brom & Fulham didn’t get near to that figure either and all of them have far bigger match day income in the top flight than Latics did/doRubbish. Don’t be coming on here with your facts and reliable sources to try and take the attention away from Whelan. He has ruined this club. Our income is greater than Man Utd, our crowds are 25000 every week and that broken legged bastard lies about it to pocket the profits.

Not sure what the Rovers fan means by everything happens after this picture. Unless James goes back in time at some point. Why would he not scream at a player for trying to get him sent off? As for Grant Hanley’s response…..well.
From the picture on his Instagram he doesn’t touch him. Yellow card for being reckless, which is a joke in itself but that’s another story.
People wanting to better themselves is not being a Judas. Not in my eyes anyway. Had Bobby resigned and been without a job then he could have been criticised for ‘jumping ship’ but he went to a much bigger club to try and better his career. Every single one of us would have done the same no matter how much we love this club.

Everton could be said as not being a rival because Bobby had already relegated us by the time he jumped for their pot of gold. Like I said who could blame him, we all wouldn’t mind more money. A massive reward for a massive bollox up, doesn’t come to everybody everyday so who could blame our Bob, but confess your undying love for something one day then leave them the next day relegated and then take their staff and players is another thing.Steve Senior is a bit before my time.
Everton are not and will never be one of our main rivals. Bob left to better his career after giving us the greatest moment in our history. I certainly hold no grudges.
