jimmy bullard did not want to leave us FACT, when he signed his new contract just before our first premiership game v chelsea he had a clause in it to increase his wages with a contract extention if we stayed up, latics chose not to honour it and to make him available, they did a deal with fulham, bullard told paul jewell he didnt want to leave and was told he wasnt wanted, how do i know bullard himself told a number of people including myself in the starr inn in lymm after a fishing match that i was in along with bullard,
one of the lads who i was with that night,a fishing acquaintance,is still mates with bullard , i saw this person on saturday and bullards name cropped up in our conversation,he told me that hull were trying to off load him and his wages and only celtic wanted him,he had been up for a look round at celtic but decided he didnt want to go there, hull basically told him he was going like it or not,fo bullard has dug his heels in and refused.now that may or may not be why he is demanding more money ,my contact only said he didnt want to go there – it just shows that sometimes there is more to the murky world of pro football than what the clubs/players/press tell us.
LMB – I don’t know Jimmy Bullard, nor do I know anyone that does know him but I have heard the same story (& very similar ones) from other people.
All I will say that is if a footballer was telling a story regarding him leaving a club to a bunch of fishing mates or drinking mates & he knows that a good proportion of those mates support the club he has just left, that is going to have a big bearing on the version of events that he tells those people.
That’s why I have taken these stories with a big pinch of salt, just as I have with those that I have heard direct from the club in the press & via people, who know people etc.. who work at Latics
Take a combination of all the version of events & you will probably get to somewhere nearer the truthHis contract conduct at Fulham, where he started to demand a new & improved contract very soon after returning from a major injury, having a handful of games under his belt & with a couple of years still left on his contract didn’t look too hot to me either
Now I aint saying that in the same circumstances I would have acted any differently, or would have done the same with the proposed switch to Celtic, but he’s as mercenary as the rest of um & the fact his carefully sculptured media image portrays him otherwise grates on me
Mr TLFair points about the financial state of them f£ckers Cheat Ham but “WTF” is anybody believing what is written in that rag redtop…..I wouldn’t believe the date on the front page.
I don’t know whether you are referring to my comments on Jimmy Bullard or West Ham.
If the West Ham comments – admittedly the transfer targets stuff has come from paper gossip & yes I should know better but the info regarding their debt & attempts to get Henry & Beckham have come from radio & TV interviews with Gold & Sullivan that I’ve seen & heardOn the subject of Jimmy Bullard – I liked him at latics but the way he left always left a sour taste in my mouth. However he has always been able to maintain this “I play football for my love of the game & aint a mercenary like so many other footballers” image.
I hope his conduct in the Hull/celtic transfer saga has put that image well & truly to bed.
With regards to West Ham, IMO the FA should contact the club to ask them how, if they are £110mill in debt that they can be trying to spend so much on transfers & offered Henry & Beckham £100k a week each.
The days of clubs spending vast amounts that they don’t have should be stopped“Its our ground, and the eggs are our tennants, of course the Latics take priority”
I remember Whelan stating this time last year that he was going to transfer ownership of the DW Stadium from Whelco to Latics but does anybody have any proof that this has actually happened yet?? Just coz Whelan has said it doesn’t mean that it has either happened yet or is ever going to happen as we know what comes out of his mouth isn’t exactly gospel at times
If he hasn’t got round to doing it yet, then Latics are as much tennants as the rugby but whilst we’re in the top flight its clear our fixture needs have priority
“Pre-Season should see us sell out for Oldham (pay on day)”
If the away end at Oldham is sold out I’ll run up & down the west stand in t’nak at half time in the Blackpool game
If I turn up do you think he’ll give me my season ticket back??
“The longer the club has the kit out for, the more money they make”
I’d disagree – the people who buy replica shirts for either themselves or their kids are going to buy them regardless of whether they come out on May 10th or August 15th.
I’d hazard a guess that Latics can guess pretty acurately how many replica shirts they will sell & I doubt the date of its release makes any difference to that amountThe whole situation around the French squad was one of the best bits of the world cup for me
Hold on a sec.
How on earth can it be a “joke” kit when you haven’t even seen it yet?
It may well be a cracking kit that’s really well made & from decent material. or it may not but you can’t judge it now for gawds sake.Nike have produced more than their fair share of gash kits over the years.
personally if I do decide to get it I couldn’t give a rats @ss whether it has a Nike swoosh on it or whatever Mi:fi’s logo is – its not as if it should ever be worn as a top fashion accessory anyway. As long as its made to last unlike last season’s pile of gubbins i couldn’t care less who makes it
To be fair it would have been nice for Latics to send something & it looks a bit cr@p that they haven’t BUT I don’t think that anybody should be expected to donate anything to anyone regardless of what cause it is. If they do great, if they don’t then fine
Mind you what winds me up even more is rich “celebrities” begging “ordinary”, and considerably less rich, folk to hand over their hard earned cash whilst thinking them donating their “time” is enough!!
I’m guessing that as 4 different managers (Jewell, Hutchings, Bruce & Martinez) had a good look at them & decided that both Poles weren’t good enough then the chances are that they weren’t & probably never will be for the English top flight
“1. Well done Roberto for playing 4-2-3-1, this formation has shape and has a midfield that causes the opposition problems, with more time we could be a thread, England proved that 4-4-2 is becoming out-dated.”
Duke – I discussed this on a different threadf a couple of weeks ago but I’d disagree completely on the comments of “well done on Roberto for playing 4-2-3-1” & “England proved that 4-4-2 is becoming out-dated”
My gripe with Bobby playing 4-5-1 (which is what it is) was not that the formation doesn’t work as numerous domestic & international sides show that it can BUT you have to have the personnel to be able to play it. Last season Latics didn’t – we didn’t have the lone striker capable of putting the opposition back 4 under constant pressure or able to hold the ball up when in possession so others could join the attack. Neither did we have any “in the hole” players good enough to play that role.
A good manager adjusts his system to fit the players that he has available & Bobby’s insistance on persisting with 4-5-1 meant he shoved numerous square pegs into round holes & it didn’t work.Likewise with Capello & England, IMO you cannot play a rigid 4-4-2 if you do not take a recognised left winger in your squad. 4-5-1 would have been the correct formation for England to play IMO because that is the formation that best suited the personnel we had available. If we’d had good enough wingers, any left winger, a holding midfielder who was fit or two central midfielders capable of playing side by side in midfield then 4-4-2 would have worked fine. But Capello insisted it was 4-4-2 & shoved numerous square pegs in numerous round holes. Just like Bobby & it didn’t work
Also i doubt very much whether the formation had anythign to do with numerous England players not being able to trap a bag of cement for the whole time we were in the tournamentI’d also disagree with technology argument. I don’t wanna see it – never have & never will regardless of whether it disadvantages a team I’m supporting – whether that be lampard’s “goal” for England, De Zeeuw’s header against Gillingham at Wembley not being given or Shaun Goater handballing his winning goal for City in the play offs.
Footballers make mistakes, managers make mistakes, referees make mistakes & sometimes supporters (even me) make mistakes – its called being human. That there is “so much money” riding on refereeing decisions is a bigger problem IMO than the ref’s getting every decision spot on. Also having seen it used in RL I’ve seen many controversial decisions still given/not given, the pundits arguing, the fans arguing & even when you get numerous replays & your Sky plus showing highlights of a Latics game you still get people disagreeing about decisions (Caldwell’s sending off against City as an example) so it won’t solve all the problems anywayHas he actually been released from his contract, has it expired from 12am tomorrow morning or is his contract for a longer period & Latics have just told him to find another club & they won’t stand in his way but he is still registered with Latics for the time being?
30 June 2010 at 6:53 pm in reply to: Boselli On his own or Boselli/Scotland Or Bosellin/Rodallega #38764To be fair, Victor Moses himself also said that his best position is “in the hole”
Mind you, Paul Scharner repeatedly told anybody that would listen that his best position was central midfield & we all know what a complete & total load of gash that was!!!
Back to young Victor, he may well be the man that plays on the left hand side. I don’t know. Nor do I know if he’s good enough or quite ready yet – Martinez himself seemed equally unsure last season from lat Jan onwards & personally I don’t know whether 3 months sat twiddling his thumbs is likely to have made him that much better that Bobby will now decide he’s ready
My own personal opinion was that he was very hit & miss – In a Jason Koumas kind of way things looked promising when he was brought on as a sub but he looked average at best when given a starting berth. Again will 3 months of the close season have made him that much better??
There, that’s a bit more like my usual negativity!!!!
30 June 2010 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Boselli On his own or Boselli/Scotland Or Bosellin/Rodallega #38726I would also like to point out that I hope to become a fully paid up member of the pro-Martinez brigade next season as his new signings, current squad & playing system combine to provide poetry in motion
Based on what I saw of Bobby’s tactics, substiutions, stubborn streak, comments to the press (& the Latics websites) and to some extent (some of) his signings last season, I can’t see that happening but I really hope I’m proved wrong
