Depending on who you talk to or which website you go on, the deal will either be completed before Xmas or it was only ever preliminary talks & no deal is happening or is miles away :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly:
We’ll be in the top one at Christmas!(Christmas not Xmas)
Xmas is an acceptable Christian spelling of Christmas!!
Just liked to add my condolences to his friends & family – he was never someone that I got to know personally but I knew who he was & was probably one of the first recognisable figures I saw at matches when I started attending in the late 80’s & was clearly Latics to his core.
JayT – you might wanna do a spell/word check on your second paragraph!!
The laws of our green & pleasant land are that an employer is not allowed to discriminate against anyone based on their nationality, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation or gender.
Like it or not by making that comment, he was discriminating against any suitably qualified English candidate.
Saying that, I’m sure he will say that he was joking & get a slap on the wrist
The only reasons that there can possibly be for a pitch inspection is that either the undersoil heating isn’t working at all, its not being maintained properly or somebody didn’t switch it on in time
Bit of a shocker to be honest!!
But for winning tonight, the club get only £27k plus whatever they take on the attendance (let’s guess at 5000 @ £10 = £50k minus operating costs) – and their reward is a trip to Bournemouth with a split of a ‘bumper’ 10k attendance, a probable defeat, the travel expense involves, and the risk of injury to players. For a club like Fylde, I’d agree that an FA Cup run is a golden goose, but for us, focusing on promotion, I think it’s a distraction we could do without.
I agree on the winning becoming a habit though, and I would like the manager to use it to give some fringe players game-time.
I became Club Secretary at the non-league club local to where I live these days & no-one (certainly at that stage) wants a home tie because you are guaranteed to lose money (unless you win).
As the away side, your travel expenses are covered and if you are travelling beyond a certain distance, the home side also has to cover the away club’s hotel expenses too. On top of that the away side is then entitled to half of the gate receipts minus operating costs (stewards, floodlights, officials fees etc..). If the home side makes a loss on gate receipts v expenses the loss is split 50/50 & taken from your travel/hotel expenses.
The travel expenses for the away team are not allowed to be included as an expense for the home team when calculating its matchday profit/lossBack to the point with Latics & this tie, it’s pretty much the same arrangement all the way through the competition so if they get through their only worry is injuries/suspensions coz financially Latics will make some money out of it unlike a normal away league game.
Unfortunately my team lost in the Prelim Round so all we got out of it this season was the £1,500 prize money for the extra-prelim round win & next to nowt in expenses for a 20 minute trip down the road to the team that knocked us out!!
For the first time since Cl opened in 1999(ish) I’ve uploaded an avatar!! – It’s working so I’d assume that its the size of the picture
it was a penalty all day long. He pushed him in the back. Enough to knock him over? Possibly not, but enough to have made him lose control of the ball. What absolute garbage, ive been pushed harder by my 8 year old niece, no wonder the egg chasers take the piss![/quote]
Not all contact on a football pitch is a foul but a 2 handed shove in the back is. Every time. It was a penalty whether you feel the Everton guy made the most of it or not
As our resident ref I would be interested to hear you’re take on Mourinho,s view and subsequent rant about the penalty he says was not given. My view is both players made contact with the ball and it was the ball that brought Herrera down so never a penalty in the memory of man. A true 50-50 challenge and Michael Oliver was spot on with the decision. The one City could have been awarded was a lot more likely. How did you see it?.It wasn’t a penalty & the ref got it spot on to book him for diving – my view of it yesterday is that Herrera knocked it past him & expected the challenge to come in, it didn’t so he stuck his left leg out & made contact with the defender & not the other way round
City should have had a penalty IMO if you;re talking about the one where some United defender grabbed a City player round the neck with his arm & pulled him to the floor.
You didn’t ask about the Everton one but someone else mentioned it so I’ll chuck my twopenneth in about that too – it was a penalty all day long. He pushed him in the back. Enough to knock him over? Possibly not, but enough to have made him lose control of the ball. Penalty & Klopp has made himself look like a right idiot with his attitude in the post match interviews that I’ve seen
As has Mourinho
I truly believe that we will never achieve whilst we are brainwashed into this fallacy that foreign is best. Late 70s and early 80s we owned the old European Cup. Utd until a few years ago played scintillating attacking football now even they have followed the trend but are sometimes terrible to watch. The English game has gone at present and ourselves are only too aware of this slow passing negative game the continentals prefer. Until we revert back to being English and playing like the English we will always fail. Not a bad theory until you consider that in the halcyon days of the 1970’s England failed to qualify for 2 successive World Cups. The 82 World Cup was a flop as well
They didn’t qualify for 1972, 1976 or 1984 Euro’s either & did garbage in the ones they did qualify forIt’s a possible proverbial banana skin for Bournemouth if Latics win the replay.
They’re hovering round the relegation area so its likely that Howe will put out a below strength side whilst Cook has shown that he will put out a strong side in the competition.
Latics should have the bit between their teeth with the chance of an upset whilst the Bournemouth players will hopefully see it as a distractionLast season they got spanked 3-0 at Millwall in the 3rd round so its definitely possible. Plus we’ll have signed loads of really good strikers between the transfer window opening & this game kicking off
I’d imagine that it was a request from Latics in order to give the players an additional days rest between this game & the one on New Year’s Day – & Charlton agreed
Expecting a very hard game against these men. They beat Bradford 3 nil at Valley Parade, so no room for a below par performance.
Obviously Uwe Rosler coming back adds some spice and he will want to put one over us. What reception will he get?Who would have thought, even 5 years ago that we would have consecutive games against AFC Fylde and then Fleetwood Town? Quite remarkable really. Must be something in the sea air over the Fylde Coast.
Or the big fat wad of cash that both clubs have!!
If a team plays defensively, the best way to play against them is to pass & move it about in order to pull them out of position, stretch them & get in behind.
No particular formation is guaranteed that to do that any more than any other formation whether is 4-5-1, 3-5-2, 4-4-2 or whatever.
On Friday I thought that early on, it is exactly what Latics were doing. The trick is persevering with it if it doesn’t provide a goal in the first 15-20 minutes & that’s what Latics didn’t do. It all became to slow & static & about pumping balls into the box.
They also became quite complacent because at 1-0 the game was very comfortable for them
The problem there was that in the first 15-20 minutes it was all nice crisp passing & movement. When that hadn’t created a goal it just became slow, plodding, lump it forward stuff.
Latics got sloppy & complacent against a side who created absolutely nothing & the substitution briefly gave them a kick in their complacency & led to their goal.
Latics goal apart the threat from down either flanl was none existent. Jacobs was alright in the 1st but completely anonymous in the 2nd
Have to disagree about Morsy, he was the only picking the ball up & driving it forward.
