I wouldn’t read to much into the game last night as a reflection of the squad and how things might pan out going forward.
I thought the intensity seen on Saturday was missing and some players seemed to treat it as a friendly in my opinion.
The EFL cup is now a non event , look at the attendances across the board last night and the prize of playing a premier league reserve team doesn’t hold much Sheen anymore.
The game on Saturday is much bigger as the sooner that points deduction is wiped away the better.
Certain they will strengthen a bit more as some of the younger players don’t look ready just yet but we have found an absolute gem in that goalkeeper Tickle which is a massive positive and a fantastic defender in Hughes.
Just pleased to emphasis being now back at pitch level rather than off it.
Loads to be upbeat about, up the tics.
After many delays and mind wrestling I decided to renew mine this morning so rang the ticket office and paid the money.
Lady who took my payment said they are all going out this week.Wyke was superb today and dare I say the lads seemed to play with a new freedom not seen for a good while.
Stand out today was the superb Tickle , must be more nuggets in that development squad surely !
Great start and a fantastic performance.Leythers v Wigan would be a good one, isn’t the rivalry harsher between Leigh and Wigan ?
“ Yer nicked our baths “Great kit and very traditional and message to new owners
STICK TO THIS NOW !
Stop alternating this fantastic strip with that weird dark blue style. There is more money to be had in football if you get it right and I agree with others , all he had to do was wait for admin and he would have grabbed ground for next to nothing.
It’s a reasonopportunity with joint ownership like Whelan had and a nice way to promote your core business and put something back in the process.
I think as a club we have had 100 years back luck in 3 years so a few years of mediocrity with steady progress won’t do the club any harm.To say I thought the club was finished last May is beyond an understatement given the final few days before Danson took the reins.
It’s seems rather quiet now and no drama but the signs have been good so far with some contracts signed and a business as usual feel without the mad antics of the past few years.
I haven’t felt there is a hidden agenda other than a wealthy businessman with a slightly more long term objective for both clubs.
A few years consolidating in league 1 will do for starters and a build up of our youth policy and investment im the training facilities will do for me.
The ground and who owns it means nothing other than petty point scoring , FFS we would have been playing at Ashton Town had those clowns driven the club to the wall in May.
Move on and stop looking for hidden agendas and live for the moment and rejoice and celebrate we have a club that is still in existence and preparing for the new season in league 1.
I would have snapped both hands off for just that back in April.Well done to young Charlie Hughes in signing a 5 year deal.
He knows in the long term it’s a brilliant career move. A few years experience in the Latics and if he improves no doubt a big money move which benefits not only him but the club as well, fair do’s.Well done to young Charlie Hughes in signing a 5 year deal.

Need to find a few more from that youth set up because it can save fortunes in the long run.Caldwell did achieve promotion but was blessed with parachute payment budget from memory.
Every ex Latics manager has achieved something and before somebody mentions Barrow ,dug us out the crap in 1994-5 before Whelan showed his hand.
Give the bloke time and let him build up the club , if that means several years bouncing around league 1 and 2 then so be it.
My prediction for next season is one of consolidation and safety with a dream season being a play off spot.I dont think expectations will be very high next season , fifth bottom will be an acheivement but agree with sentiment about young hungry players.
keeping league 1 status will do for me and if there is money to invest than develop our youth training facilities and try to pick up cast offs from the big local clubs.
Lets hope they give Shaun the time to build up the club and i think he deserves plenty of time in view of his efforts last year in very difficult circumstances.
Ex Latics players have always done well in the management chair and the stats back that up.Jamie Jones could do a job in league 1 and his attitude is always spot on for me.
We have a very good goalkeeper in Sam Tickle languishing in the reserves but Jones should be retained out of that bunch in my opinion.Only a club like Latics could face a HMRC winding up order on the Monday and acquire a billionaire owner by the end of the week.
On a par with any of the on field last minute victories and last gasp relegation battles , absolutely out of the blue.
Oh how the teddies and rattles must have bounced against the walls of houses Blackrod and Horwich way last Thursday night !
We will get our day again with those jealous ,arrogant and very deluded bar stewards once again. To be fair they are a bigger club and we all know that , founder members and all that and yes they have a bigger fan base.
They have tried to stoke rivalry up with every club in the north west and failed miserably so given our recent success have turned to us.
The sad thing for them is that our supporters don’t get as angry about it as they do , it’s all done light heartedly from our side and they hate that , they really do.
Add the cup success in an era where it is almost impossible now for a low ranking club to win a major trophy and it just ramps up the vitriol.
Yes more FA cups but absolutely no recent success bar a Mickey Mouse trophy against a lower division club rather than than the premier league champions.
Same as Sunderland and Newcastle really Mutty , no success for nearly 50 years and at clubs with huge support albeit in an area devoid of clubs ( hardly the hotbed it’s marketed as ), laughable really !The rivalry was there before 2013 and went as far as ‘pie eaters ‘ and usual shithousing however ramped up massively after the FA cup victory in 2013.
They just cannot handle the fact we have been more successful than they have , it rankles.
So bitter and very jealous. -
