We arrived to find the gates being locked all over the place, wasn’t the done thing to buy tickets prematch back then.
Managed to dive in the Gladys street end so there must have been plenty other Wiganers doing the same given the massive attendance.
Had no bother as away fans in home sections was perfectly acceptable back thenif you were only there to watch the game.
Despite the mass brawl at the end the two managers were happily interviewed together at the end of the game and againnyiu wouldn’t see that today.

Funny how the game has shifted but it’s the supporters who are being short changed with weakened sides and they are voting with their feet and rightfully so.
The game boils down to money however the TV companies will be off like a shot if the stadiums empty up again like they did in the 1980s.
Seem to Remember spurs being fined by the football league in early eighties for fielding a weakened side in a league match before an FA cup final.

The league cup is the one that needs radically changing in my view .
Get rid of all the defected Premier league teams and then give some
Of the sleeping giant football league clubs the chance to play at Wembley.
The European place would go but at least there would be a different name on the trophy rather than the usual top bore clubs.
As for the FA cup which is over 100 years old and the most prestigious domestic knock out tournament in the world , leave it as it is bar minor adjustments.
The tournament will be valued by true supporters long after he and all his ilk have departed our game, maybe a tweak here and there but that’s all.
It’s been messed about enough for years but still is the only opportunity for the whole of professional and semi professional game to play each other and is valued by many.
That is far more important than cheap money that has destroyed our game and mundane matches (in a very dire premier league this year btw)and our game has been damaged enough without ruining a famous cup competion now existing in its third century !
As for the premier league sloping off to a European league I have just choked on my tea with laughter at the thought of such giant mortals as Sheff Utd Burnley, Bournemouth and Watford being big enough to grace a stage like that .

His pace and work rate is second to none however just needs to work on his final ball especially in wide positions.
I personally think he could have filled the Powell role in a more central position and I think he was tried there at back end of last season and did really well.
Would be pleased to see him get that move and I really mean that even though I would be sorry to see him go. A great success story if it comes off.
Just needs some work on his passing distribution and he’ll have some career in front of him.

Snap hands , legs , in fact decapitate the whole carcus for that money.
Been arguably our best player and far better when in attacking positions.
Hell of a move for our most hardworking and committed player and he deserves his big break if it comes.
Good luck to the young lad I say

Same old broken record and without changes an acceptance of relegation.
Looks like they have all but given up from top to bottom .

Been saying for months about our youths and to give them a chance.
Only way to survive at this level but I’m an accepting of our fate now and would rather see the club build slowly and try and prosper at the right level going forward.
Five of them easily worth some game time at first team level from what I saw the other week.
                  .

I think it was another player ( surname that sounds like a grimy Cumbrian town) that allegedly offered to have a one to one private ‘meeting’ On the field near springy.
I thought he came across as quite cocky and full of himself at that evening event 8 years ago and seemed that when he was at the club also in my view.
In the promotion clinching game against Mansfield town at springy in 1982 I witnessed him screaming blue murder at some young lads that encroached on the pitch after a goal was scored , he was playing that day .it wasn’t nice to see and I can still picture it to this day.
Bear in mind that this was a huge game at the time to celebrate the clubs first ever football league promotion.
Most players and managers welcomed that kind of thing back as long as it was peaceful back then and I remember running on after Mick Quinn score his first ever goal and him thanking us for the adulation.

Never understood the decision to let this fine striker leave and what we wouldn’t give to have a player as good as he was today .
I went off him completely when I witnessed that reaction from joyful supporters celebrating an important goal.
Brian Clough was also very scathing about him in his books also.

Oh how times have changed, when we sold our best ever striker (Mickey Quinn) to a bigger club (Stockport). Who would have thought back then that the mighty Rossoneri would one day be courting one of our players.

We allegedly paid Stockport to take him off our hands according to a bloke at a Larry Lloyd tribute night in 2012.
What a decision that was if true !

I thought April fools day had come early.
He has improved massively though this season and has been one of our best players and has tons of pace.

He is a utility player and in my view seems better in attack.
Used to be common for managers back in the day to utilise defenders as make shift strikers when times were tough.
Mick Lyons of Everton is a classic example.
Try anything , we are down in my view unless he makes radical changes. Will get a laugh or two I know

Geldhart, Weir into the first team squad with Geldhart into the old Powell role.
Can’t make my mind up between Windass or Garner but here’s one for some debate Robinson as an out and out striker .
He has proved he has attacking qualities , has pace , and has already scored and also looked lively around the box.
Off the wall but he is still learning and proved already he is a good utility player who looks better in an attacking position centrally.

A six yard box striker is what we need very quickly.
Not had that since Will Grigg was here but that is what is needed now as we waste so many chances from wide positions with nobody to score the scrappy chances.
A loan signing probably the best option given the precarious state we are in.

                                no point changing anything now.
Same bunch of ‘strikers ‘ and slow paced midfielders And more importantly the same board of directors.
The record is firmly stuck , wish I could be more positive.
I exclude all the under 18s from the above ( they will be very important next year )

                                  Broken record again and again.
A dreadful inept performance against a mediocre mid table side and stuff the stats we had no punch in the vital areas.
I have said it many times now this bunch is arguably the worst we have had for many a year and I don’t think it is salvageable now whatever happens.
I saw more heart , effort and belief from our youth lads in one minute last Wednesday than I saw from that bunch in the entire game yesterday ( Naismith aside ).
They have tried everything and it still doesn’t work and sadly I’m now resigned to league 1 , we just haven’t got enough of what is required to survive.
A depressing place to be at this stage of the season .
