freezing,depressing and all hope gone.
It’s over and its back to league one and beyond that on the evidence at the moment!
Great masterplan …..notCrusat
Be very surprised if that game is on this Tuesday
14 friendlies it is , would be lovely to end this dreadful home run with a win on March 21st.
I wonder who we are playing then?Any bad weather today or tomorrow and I can see the game on tuesday being postponed,it looked very waterlogged to me last night so any further rain could mean a postponement in my view.
as far as I’m concerned we got relegated yesterday afternoon and looking at the table now it is very clear that to stay up a team will need to hit about 48 points this season so we need to rattle in about 23 points to have a chance.
Does anybody still watching this team think that will happen?
the team is not good enough to sustain that kind of form and all we can hope for now is that we bugger up somebody’s season in some way because we WILl be in league 1 next season of that there is now doubt now.For me the rot started way back in September at Blackburn just after the international break when we capitulated after going a goal up from then on we played our games in a half hearted fashion and in no way to the standard required in this division.
if anyone thinks League 1 will be any different then they had better think again, our ground will be one of the better ones in that division and teams will come at us like they have done this season and with little or no investment in the team then another relegation could follow in 14 months time.We just had to win that game on Friday but after 20 minutes or so they looked and were the better side and no amount of effort was going to change that.
it was a realisation for me on Friday that we already have a league 1 team and a very poor one at that if you look at how good Preston were against Man Utd and the Bradford City side at Chelsea.
More struggle for me and another relegation is all I can see next season, very very sad, somebody convince me otherwise please!!Just seen the goal and the reaction of Pearce and he rest of the team gives me some hope for the future .
The game on Friday suddenly has an edge! The club spent 10 million in the transfer market last summer and had a wage bill going into this season of 20 million and an expensive pre season which with dwindling gates and no cup runs has seen a dramatic culling of the type we haven’t seen since the early nineties the last time the club was in serious decline.
Rosler raised expectations to ridiculous levels and increased his own profile to the point where maybe they all got a bit carried away and allowed the purchase of probably the worst set of players ever to walk on a football pitch at Latics.I think a relegation will shake up the club and with no money worries going forward and prudent running of the club we could well start to recover next season or at least steady the ship,it can’t sink any further can it?
the premier league can seriously damage a football club after relegation and we where heading down that slope before they stepped in and said enough is enough and the club is returning to its old self which is the eighties/ early nineties model.
as far as I’m concerned we will be playing league one football next season but bigger clubs than ourselves have suffered this fate and it is what supporting a club is all about no use throwing the toys out and sulking.
maybe the changes we are seeing should have occurred after we were relegated but the FA cup win changed the club forever and at least we will be a much bigger entity in league one than the one that left there in 2003.I don’t blame anyone really it is just how football is and remember it will be only our third ever relegation since we joined the football league in 1978 so we can’t moan that much can we?Would make sense regardless we have two parachute payments left and we will need a good youth policy in the future for our return spell in the lower divisions.
it will save and generate money in the long run and the impoverished set up of the early eighties had a very good youth policy David Glen,Kevin Langley,Warren Aspinall, David Lowe,Wayne Aspinall,Andy Ainscow being just some of the names that came through the ranks and some of these names were sold for big money.
The new money in the premier will mean less and less chances for kids in the future so they may as well start at Wigan as the net for foreign players will widen as the new wealth hits.
On the subject of the new pay deal talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time, just hoping Blunderland will miss out.The ‘believe ‘ song wasn’t played before the last game and rightfully so.
Seem to remember Whelan coming out once at half time with his trumpet and giving it a blast with some wigan brass band ( Wycombe at home december 2000 I think ), I only remember that because my lad was paraded on the pitch with his triumphant school team after they won a regional schools tournament.
maybe the charlton game will be the ONE I just keep hoping. Not scoring and now leaking goals by the bucket load with the form just getting worse both home and away.
Club struggling home and away? Oh great its wigan arhletic next and three easy points and a nice leg stretch!
The club has become a complete shambles in my view and sacking rosler now looks like the worst decision made at the club in many a year.
Bottom of the barrel to be reached when we hit league 2 !can’t see another win to be honest
Was in a New York bar in 2010 and a yank spouted off about Martinez and his players and what was wrong with latics, surreal really.
he later joined us on a pub crawl and tried to “get laid ” ( felt like I was in the film porkies) with some unfortunate bar worker near Times Square.Positives of league one
Big shiny ground -we will be able to attract better players
Parachute money-
Salary cap- can think of one person who will love this
Weare much bigger as a club than the one that left this division in 2003
Might win a few games hence more supportersNegatives
Every team will treat playing at our ( too) big shiny ground as a cup final and the home form will be as shit as this season.
Hoof ball
Lower attendances – kids stand looks dead now and the west even sparser- stand closed next season?
Trip to Coldham Athletic
Higher season ticket pricesFar too many to save this season Im afraid and after Saturday and seeing the ‘new look’ team against Bournemouth I’d be surprised if we pass the 30 point mark never mind suddenly find promotion form which I think will be needed to get out of this mess.
the real rot set in when they sacked Rosler and the home form deteriorated even further from picking up a point at least to a run of steady defeats and an air of defeatism as they step on the pitch.I reckon we would have had more points on the board had we stuck with Rosler and let him sort out the team but as it stands we have what we have and this team is just not good enough to survive in this division.
I hate being negative and have always tried to find positives in any situation but the table doesn’t lie and the two bottomplaces have been sorted in my opinion ,far too much ground to make up and far too many faults to correct at this late stage.
