I’m sorry but I’m not for letting Redknapp off so easily as you. He has been involved with some dubious deals in the past and, to me, he definitely was the instrument behind the squad and their wage bill.
I was lucky enough to be in the Director’s box at White Hart Lane when we played them there a couple of seasons ago. Harry had come straight from his court case to be at the game and acknowledged the crowd before he took his seat. I commented (not that quietly, funnily enough) that he was doing well to clap with those handcuffs on. Well, it amused me. I turned round to see that it didn’t amuse the three blokes sat right behind me. They were Les Ferdinand, Tim Sherwood and… Jamie Redknapp!
I wonder how many times unfashionable hoops will be on tv next year ?
One thing I noticed also was how long faced Humphrey cushion looked when the final whistle went which was surprising given the prize they had just won.
Rumours were abound that he was out if he lost the game so I presume he would have been entitled to a pay off and then a quick swerve across the city to Tottenham Sackspur or West hoof .
At least we don’t have to play this dreadfully dull side for a bit at least .In the stars for Steve Mcclaren a good coach and good man to boot despite what the biased northern hating London media think. they will all be behind Humphrey cushion and his gang no doubt .
The sides of the West were empty.I can’t see the East but I would imagine that the extras in there were just those missing from the South.
The West holds around 1500 less than the East btw
The east looked quite full on Friday I would have estimated about 7500 in there however the South was as sparse as I have ever seen it and I would suspect some of the usual incumbents in here defected to the East.
I was surprised when I heard the gate particularly when I saw (and snarled )at people there who only ever turned up at premier league games in the pub afterwards- where the ferk where they against Bournemouth and Huddersfield ?Lee Butler John Butler
Eric Steel Jim Steel
Wayne aspinall and Warren aspinall
john Brown and Micheal BrownEnjoying this and I’m not googling them either
On the basis of keeping the club cash rich then a return to the premier league is important or is it?
Burnley have just acheived promotion and the parachute payments ended last season and their average gates are lower than ours !
been good to see some of the old Skool faces back at Latics this season after many years away if we go back to the so called promised land then so be it but it won’t have the same feel that it did all those years ago if we reach it again.
Norwich made a dreadful error in sacking Chris Hughton in my opinion who I think would have snaked the points needed to stay up – they get good gates (not surprising given their catchment area) so should be able to sustain championship football.
Don’t think they will be missed given their outback location though.Noele ward and mark ward
Steve johnson alan johnson
Dave Thompson and chris thompsonBe nice to get back there and see the return of all the hangers on and corporate goons who swamped the club when it was in the prem.Been nice to attend matches at normal kick off times and watch football in a more relaxed atmosphere which you could never do in the premier league.
hardly going to be a mad rush when we are playing arguably one of the smallest clubs in London on a Friday night when it’s live on sky tv. I reckon a gate of about 15000 will be present which all in all won’t be bad given that they won’t bring that many and some people who support us off and on might stay in the pub.
Nothing will be decided on Friday anyway and I reckon a few empty seats might turn off some of their big time Charlie’s and give us the edge on the night.
Let’s just get something on Friday night to make sure it’s a real cup final on Monday at the sub buteo stadium although please no more penalty shoot outs !QPR sound like they are bricking it if you ask me and with a large fine allegedly looming for overspending the pressure may well affect them more than us.
Have to say that I found myself rooting for Norwich this afternoon if only so it prolonged the misery for the perennial lame dogs in the premier league for a few more days.
With our main season over I’ve no problem with what Uwe did yesterday.
Yesterday’s result was irrelevant to Latics but the next 2 (hopefully 3) games are the most vital of our season. Should he have played his first choice side (whatever that may be!!) & risked having some of those 11 unavailable for the play offs through injury or suspension?
Personally I couldn’t care less about any respect or otherwise to any other club. What matters to me is Latics & that’s what Uwe is paid for too
Burnley are in a completely different situation so it isn’t even comparableThe season starts again on Thursday and Friday for the 4 clubs involved.
Uwe will play his best 11 (not sure which 11 that is tbh
) on Friday and may need to do so again on Monday. They’ve plenty of time to rest before the final.I’ve a sneaky feeling Brighton might do one on Derby. It frequently happens in the play offs when the 6th place team sneaks in at the last minute…literally this time!
Don’t mind at all playing at home first against QPR. First opportunity to get the runs on the board and bat Harry out of the tie :woohoo:
Agree with the Brighton bit they have been very very lucky to get in to these play offs Lady Luck hasn’t half smiled on them of late and you need bundles of that in the play offs.
I think the criticism of our manager is starting to get on my nerves a little bit given the transformation since he arrived.Best -David Shearer striker from Middlesborough 9 goals in 11 games 1980?
Worst Richard Marshall a Barbadian striker late 90sThey better get ready for the funeral then because I cannot see them turning their season round.
Nothing boring club with no real passion or history and in a nuclear wasteland as far as football is concerned !
3 clubs in total in an area the size of Lancashire ????
nobody would miss them or the dreadful journey down there whatsoever – blimey they have only been in there 3 seasons and they talk about death of the club FFS!
As much as I dislike Sunderland and there perennial scrap to 37 points the manager Poyet seems a really decent bloke so I hope they stay up but can’t say I am too bothered about rejoining this nonsense next season. His reaction at Bolton summed it up for me ,no real passion just a Why the fuss? what do you ferkin expect from a Premier League top gun like me?
Avoid those loanees like the plague going into these play offs!Uwe has done everything we could have asked of him, given the wreckage he inherited from Coyle.I expect to see him managing in the Premier Lge next season…let’s hope it’s with us.
Let’s secure 5th place on Saturday and play QPR over 2 legs. I reckon we’ve more chance against Derby in 1 game than 2.
To have missed out on the play offs at this stage would have been dreadful and I’m not sure the club would have recovered from it .
we now move into our 5th attempt at winning in the play offs ( 1987, 1999,2000 and 2001) and we didn’t win any so just maybe we are going to be lucky the fifth time of asking! -
