Tony pullis and Gary megson. Two names to bring one out in a cold sweat.
Think the job is Graeme jones if he wants it, though he may not want to to step in the limelight, some are just happy to remain a number 2.
Failing that Gary Neville. I reckon he’d take it too if he seriously wants to move into management, close to home, decent squad with a good chance of promotion which requires improvement in defence which is his area of speciality.
He’s still under contract so don’t think whelan will let him resign as he would lose compo. The more you consider his options or at least those 3 we know about you can see very good reasons why he wouldn’t go to any of them. Most likely he will see out his contract with Wigan, hope to get us back up during that time, tout his name and credentials in europa league and then sit back to wait for the right opportunity.
Still not got tired of watching that. In injury time the sheer elation, ecstacy, pandemonium in that moment the ball hit the net and the realisation we had just won the FA Cup will remain with us forever. Just doesn’t get better than that.
Didn’t realise these bell ends were then allowed into the away end, not quite sure what precedent this sets should a similar situation happen again. No problem anyone sitting in what end they like, however sit down and keep your mouth shut otherwise should be evicted.
Not sure if still on a high after winning the cup but can honestly say I don’t feel even 90 percent as gutted as I thought I would be after going down. It almost feels like a relief.
Looking forward to tomorrow to show my appreciation for the players and manager, cannot wait to see them parading the cup around the ground and I’m already looking forward to what will hopefully be an exciting and fruitful campaign next year ( just hope my enthusiasm isn’t dampened by loss of too many players over the summer and we make the right managerial appointment if Martinez decides to move on to pastures new)
Often with relegation there is need for change of strategy, direction, different ideas, new faces, style etc. with us that isn’t the case and continuity would seem sensible so therefore graham jones is really the only logical candidate.
Alcaraz Figs and di Santo have all indicated they won’t renew contract so no chance now we have gone down. Joel and scharner will return to parent clubs.
McCarthy has served his time with us and would have gone anyway in summer.
Kone I understand has a release clause and pretty sure that will be met as seems good value, though if he stayed reckon we would score a shedload and lead us to promotion.
Maloney and mcmanaman I think will be happy to stay, though if club receives big offers they will be sold.
Clearly majority of these players are defenders and forwards and so major strengthening will be needed in these areas. However don’t forget in championship we are allowed a lot more loan signings and given clubs reputation on playing style and nurturing players we should be first in line for any top quality loanees from parent clubs.
Whilst McCarthy fee should be used for reinvestment I also think a good chunk should be for massive incentive bonuses if we get back up for those players we want to keep like kone, Maloney etc. the players we have left in squad are all more than good enough for championship and supplemented with new signings and loan players even with above departures we should have a very good and competitive squad. Of course who stays, goes and who comes in will be influenced by who is in charge and yes plans need putting in place immediately.
For me we got relegated after the Swansea game and was angry and gutted. Then along came the FA Cup final and the elation that brought and still brings it wiped all the disappointment away.
Feel nothing but pride about supporting the club I have done for last 28 or so years and cannot wait for Sunday to show my appreciation again when they start parading that trophy around the DW. Relegation wasnt due to lack of effort. With the new training ground and academy in the pipeline, the fact I understand we are debt free, have many good players who even after departures will be good enough for us to have a more than decent crack at promotion the club is in a very decent shape. Whilst i wish we had survived I’m also looking forward to a new challenge next season both domestically and now internationally. I hope we pack the ground on Sunday and celebrate a momentous achievement,.
Don’t get those that booed last night, disgraceful in my opinion. Yes we were poor but ultimately it wasn’t due to a lack of effort. Anyone see McCarthy at the end he looked distraught and this is a lad who will playing in the top flight next year with or without us so no can can tell me they don’t care.
I even heard some clown on the way out slagging of Gomez and blaming him for the defeat, unbelievable. We were all gutted last night, still am, but what on earth was the point of these tossers booing the players, just don’t get it.
Suicidal defending, for an experienced player it’s inexplicable really. I heard he is going to have retire at end of season due to a long standing hip injury, not sure how true that is.
Fine margins. If MacArthur had connected to make it 3 we most likely would have won.
If the defence hadn’t been decimated by loss of ramis and Alcaraz for most of season pretty confident we wouldn’t have been in this position. Just made worse by loss of figs, jean, at such a crucial time. Even the much maligned caldwell hasnt been fit all season and even the back up Lopez is still injured. In a system where we play 3 centre halves its been horrendous bad luck. Yeah we can criticise last nights formation, personnel and defensive tactics but ultimately I think these injuries told in the end.
No longer a question of if.
However for me most definitely would want him to stay. He’s the driver behind the development of the training facilities, youth academy etc etc and want him to see this through and provide us with a stable base going forward.
I’m all for staying positive but sometimes you just have to accept reality and face up to the facts, unfortunately this season we have come up short and are down.
Think the last comfortable home win was over a year ago against Newcastle. We must certainly be due one. Win tonight would be massive, not only for the points but the psychological effect it would have on everyone else still in the mire.
I agree, the day out on Saturday will nicer knowing we’re not occupying the last spot.
