Gomez haters hated him in the prem because he wasnt good enough for the prem but he his a superb championship player as proven in his past championship days

I have never called nor hated Gomez but you are correct in what you say, he was not good enough at the top level but this is his niche ! :)
is your opinion …

incidentally, last game Gomez played against Reading at DW – 3 went in …. Premiership, if I’m not mistaken B)

If Gomez does walk on a Bosman come end of the season, I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see Martinez take a punt on him at Everton

Did he look out of place at Wembley /Arsenal last week, … City /Cup Final last year … did he, did he … no , didn’t think so.

Niche, my a3se

Understand the game !

Am I missing something?

Espinoza is brilliant at the running around and tackling bit, but at times his passing is shocking.

It was exactly the same yesterday. He had a decent game but was behind McArthur, Gomez, and Perch for me.

Much like the England team, who no doubt will do great things down in hot, humid Brazil come Summer. We can but live in hope ..

Possession, ball retention and quality 9/10ths the law (Gomez). Super strike !

We won the cup for 80 minutes so it was a great starting line up

Subs were fine but Nick made one wrong decision. He is only young and in years to come we will be so chuffed that he played for us for a short while

Caldwell is our leader and he hit a penalty that was saved. Keeper guessed right

Crainey man of match in a team performance that was immense. We were playing one of the best teams in Europe

Shame their fans aren’t as classy

Do me a favour … may like to think he is. We’ve done fine without (Cup Final last year as well). Why he came on in favour of Barnet, one of more consistent and better performers this season, God only knows.

Penalty strategy wrong (we didn’t even practice, as UR said … probably didn’t even have the sequence worked out until extra time. Score first, and pressure on Arsenal (Wenger – must win – and the Arsenal folk were sh1tting themselves after 80 inns ! Pressure !

Real shame, our penalty taking technique a real damp squib after our heroic 120 minute performance.

As stated before, we need to be aware of the dreaded pens in the play-offs.

Carson was very good in goal today, but had we had our best 11 out for the pens, (all) might have been a different story ….. Ali, Maloney etc.

as for Gary, less of the leader stuff’, too many feckin’ calamities in recent times. And get Barnett back !

Revenge against the Cockneys in the play-offs !

In any competitive situation you should aim very high and see what happens and it seems our manager is doing just that.

Rosler will have forgotten yesterday already and will be focusing on Yeovil at home now which is what the great managers always do.
after the next two fixtures the rest of them look very tough indeed but we said that going into march and if we keep on winning who knows?
Burnley haven’t had wobble yet and will certainly get nervy as they approach the final straight –
maybe ,maybe ,maybe!

EXACTLY (VH)

And as for Burnley being in better form in last 10 versus Latics last 8 …boll2cks ! Forget NOT who we hsve beaten recently, tough away days at City, Forest, BHA, Ipswich, Cardiff …. beat Palace at home (W,W,W,W,W,W …)

COME ON … !!!!

WE ARE IN A RICH VEIN OF FORM, CONFIDENCE HIGH, WITH COMPETITION FOR PLACES

ONWARDS AND UPWARDS !

in reply to: Ipswich Away Today #128742
Given we are only just in the play offs i think talk of us catching Burnley is rather premature. 15 points (or 9 if we win games in hand) is pretty substantial with 11 games to go given Burnley are in even better form than us in the league over the last ten games. They actually have a similar run in to us on paper so would take us to win pretty much every game from the last 13 to go past them which is unlikely. Best to take it a game at a time!

we’ve just won EIGHT on the bounce …premature ?
Include in that list 6 away .. the likes of City, Forest, BHA etc. Hardly ‘scrubbers’
Nothing wrong in having HIGH expectations (you wouldn’t say we’d failed to deliver in the last 2 months or so….would you ?)
15 CAN become 9 (2 wins) become 6 (Burnley AWAY win – the pressure on them
NOT saying we will, merely that its something we should SHOOT for
Or don’t you think UR sends his boys out with the intention of winning every game
On current form, injuries permitting, and in the unfortunate scenario Burnley lose one or the other key player (smaller squad), … why not ?
Game at a time indeed B) ….12 cup finals (assuming no more injuries, WE have the squad, and NOW the FORM, and MANAGER to help us do it
Goes without saying no margin for error (Hudders, Dony etc.)
IF the unthinkable did happen, then UR’s stock would clearly go through the roof ..

in reply to: Ipswich Away Today #128725
Up to Fifth 5 points behind QPR and Derby with two games in hand :)

Only downer today … Burnley 2-1 winners versus Leeds (0-1 down in last 2, came back to win both).

My message (UR) to the players : lets go win MIN 11 out the last 12 … would put us there or there abouts for top 2. Why Not ? This team is on fire (injuries permitting ….) Naturally, he’ll only talk publicly about the play-offs.

Powell, Maloney etc. back in the fold …… quality midfield reinforcement would be welcome (Watson, McCann).

Another outstanding result today, lads :cheer:

Some people do talk rubbish about football, don’t they?

No issue; we just have to keep doing where it matters ..out o the pitch …. and show those ‘experts’ for what they’re worth (b@gger all …)

cheers Mr Mark Lawrenson ….. 3-0 City, then eh ??? ! @rse !!!

Congrats. to the team (and Uwe, of course). All did us super proud ! Huge respect.

What happened the last time we played arsenal in a major cup semi final…..
mmmmm! Let me think.

The floodlights failed!
I, and I feel another kinda ‘Ben Watson goal’ coming on …. :cheer:

On BT sport.

Was pretty good coverage, I thought.

What a nasty little shit, Nasri is; and Toure just tried to bulldozer every challenge; plus their goal should have been disallowed. However thought the ref wasn’t too bad.

Rosler played a blinder today, city players spent the first half trying to ‘hurt’ or get retribution on McManaman and totally lost it.
playing a blinder every week at the moment … just getting into his stride … like the players (focus now on midweek – much-needed 3 points – back to earth / bread and butter)

Martinez,r u watching martinez!!!!

Fec me Runcorn, wait till wearegoingtobarnsley starts, this will be another marathon and you will not half feel his venom.

Sent from my iPhone
chill out, be positive man (not a time for nonsense) , we’ve just gone and beaten the mega-rich capital cup holders … only this time in their back yard.

And for all those who talk about City off-days ….bollocks !!! You got lucky at the Etihad last season (outplayed, Tevez wonder goal – was there !), run out of luck at Wembley – outfought, outplayed, END OF

have the ball as much as you like, football – a simple game – all about sticking the ball in the back of the net ! SIMPLE. GOOD NIGHT !!

Don’t know if he is, but I’m following on BBC Sport from afar (Singapore). Gone 2 in the morning, feeling now, physically sick (grief, stress etc.).

Speechless, absolutely speechless, I did warn the folks back home today, that there would be a storm in Manchester today, .. and so I was proved right … I did say, in earlier post, not so long ago, …going ALL the way, WEMBERELEY … nice to be proved right once in a while … B)

Jordi (et al) came up trumps once again today.

Now where are those darned pills !!!!!!

in reply to: Gomez – Contract #128056

I hear that his contract is up in the summer and doesn’t look like he will sign a new one – at a time we seem to finally be seeing some consistency from him (albeit sometimes from the bench) and he himself looks to be happier than hes been for some time, he seems to be getting some confidence back and I think it would be foolish to let someone like him go for nothing in the summer, would be great to see him sign a new deal now he seems to be looking good.

NOW ????

where’ve you been for the last 18 months or so ?

starter in the cup final (Martinez rated his contribution), second top scorer this season (from midfield) … etc. etc. NO COINCIDENCE

personally, I think the hat-trick against Reading last season was a watershed in his Latics career (kicked on from there … with renewed confidence)
just for the record, sported a Latics Cup Final top at Latics, GOMEZ emblazoned on the back.

Cue 2 meet-ups

– one with a Lstics Fan at half-time – thank FECK someone else rates Gomez
– second with the GOEMZ family at Wembley Central after the game (mother, father, and sister) who (sported my shirt and) insisted I appear on a photo with them (.. who ME ?). What a day, that was !

No doubt made up by the fact that on a great fay for them, proof indeed that not all WIGANERS are ‘Gomez-haters’. Poor sod! Even my neighbours in the East Stand have now come round to my way of thinking. Christ knows it’s taken long enough !
