The players leaving are not quality IMO.

And yet they have both attracted interest from Premier League clubs.

McClean has great skills and terrific stamina. He is willing to run and run (often up a blind alley) – in both attack and defence. I’m sure a good coach could harness these talents.
And so he lost his way at Sunderland, under M O Neil, and S Bruce .. if not mistaken.

Not exactly coaches with the worst records as Managers, ….Bruce doing well again at Hull ….

Confidence AND attitude go a long way in this game ….he certainly hasn’t been firing on all cylinders for us !

Maynard – in from the off, I get (hard as that may be on Fortune), give the lad some game time against seemingly beatable, out-of-form opposition, in readiness for more difficult games ahead !!!

Unfortunately ….. (the rest as they say is history ..)

Let’s get two or three up with our first team, then bring on Maynard as a substitute.
take your point (used to ay the same of Martinez when making 8-9 changes in the Cup competitions (e.g. Bradford, Bournemouth) – bring on the young ‘uns later.

But fact is we should still have had enough out there to do Rovers (Powell etc.). Secondly, a game AND goal under his belt would have done him the world of good ! Alas, not to be…
repeat :

8-9 changes …..fact is we should still have had enough out there to do Rovers

incidentally, thought Browning, Everton, had made his debut the prior week (Bournemouth) ?

McClean not good enough anyway, good riddance to 2 of the worst players here for a while,Holt n McClean.
Holt, lazy, slow brought nothing to the team.McClean, couldn’t cross the road never mind a ball,no end product either in the crosses or shots, one footed, all left foot and to predictable and easy to defend against.

well said, sir … couldn’t agree more – good riddance, I say … never been the same since 1st season at Sunderland (McClean)

Go on then. Last 3 years. Give me some worse defeats than a 3-0 against Championship relegation fodder?

We may play like an average championship side but our best starting eleven should be more than a match for anyone in this league.

You do have a point; as for some of the ‘other defeats ””worse’ listed, well they’re laughable … we are after all talking about relativity.

Yes, our starting eleven should be a match for more or less all in this division … indeed, they have an off day ….both Utd. and Liverpool lost to the likes of newly-promoted Burnley and Blackpool in EPL in recent years …………
but surely, we shouldn’t be going for 3 without reply ?!

Even a little complacency perhaps (thought the game was won before we turned up ..).

Appears to be a case of Donny up for it more than we were, and defensively, not at the races …

    Poor do’

If you can include Al Habsi in the team, then Beausejour was also very much one of the squad. Watson will be missing today with a foot injury.

Just for the record, it was Gomez who scored the penalty to give us a draw against Bournemouth. We then played Fulham in the league and Martinez made nine changes for the replay. The winning goal was scored by … Boselli.

That chap’s name does appear to come cropping on up on a regular basis, doesn’t it ?

Is he any good ? …. heard he’s got a wicked left foot ….

Would you believe it ….. Gomez B) 2-0 (on line-Germany). Good lad !! :cheer:
Scoring for fun, providing that extra quality (when he’s on the pitch!), causing a good few deluded ‘supporters’ to eat their words, …. keep it up Jordi B)

in reply to: How Long Before ‘Top 4 Uwe’ ? #125834

I’ll shoot for 32 games played (=> Top 4 material).

Get within 6 points of 2nd / 3rd (Burnley, and QPR both to play – ‘6 pointers’) and 2nd automatic spot up for grabs … all to play for in the last 10 (‘run in’).

    BELIEVE

    PS

N Wells – signed on by Huddersfield – came on as 58th minute sub today (debut); scored in last minute, Town 1-0 Lions 0

    in reply to: Disrespect #125709

Why should the BBC give a toss? 20000+ that went to Wembley disrespected you yesterday – I’d be more annoyed at their disrespect.

As will happen when Wigan Warriors start their defence of the cup.

It’s not disrespect, it’s Wiganers being too tight to spend an extra £10
Come on mutty. You throw these comments in then dont respond. Wigan rugby have taken 30k to Wembley before now yet have had 4k on for cup games. Sunderland lost 21k fans today. What makes us such a disgrace?
The Geordies at home to Cardiff performed similarly well (crowd 20k down on usual, I think). Not forgetting, of course, Cardiff are also Premiership.

The fact he’s not responding is probably because, as one put it, he’s (still) busy doing the latter … tugging himself silly.

What makes us a disgrace (the exception) ? Nothing, weren’t not.

in reply to: premier league -do we miss it ?? #125692

most definitely not when the FA cup is seen as a nuisance and could easily do without it.
That will go down very well with his trophy starved fans who pay very good money in the hope that his team actually win one !
I also hear that West ham are going to play reserves in both the FA cup and the League cup semi final because of the fear of losing their premier league place?????
I always though relegation occurred in April or May but if this is the sort if nonsense occurring just because of the fear of losing TV money then I’m glad we are out of it-
The FA cup win in May is the greatest ever day watching Latics for me and worth those eight years in the premier league !

West Ham need worry no more now ! ha ha ha :P
Been coming for a while, the Board having exercised a surprisingly high degree of patience ‘relatively-speaking’ (I’d have put my money on him going sooner than AVB and Mackay some weeks back), but I think the writing may well now be on the wall (particularly, when he can’t control best-loved player, Nolan), Fat Sam /P45 …

    3–3 would you believe it.

    No

Sounds like our front 2 (Holt, Fortune) could well learn a thing or two from a certain Mr Reeves.

Still, me thinks MK Dons have had their day; I’ll go 1-0 Wigan in the replay (memories of Bournemouth last year).

Any news on the transfer front (striker in ?)

I’ve just watched the last 15 minutes of the DVD, and for the last couple of minutes after the goal I’m still yelling “Keep them out! Hold on!” at the telly.

It is still very very difficult to believe it really happened. :)

I just re-watched the goal spree against Everton (“an incredible FA Cup purple patch”) – one of the best 3 minutes of my life ;-)
Good shout; goals-wise, probably up there with Newcastle (4 in 45). Gomez goal (3rd) – apologies for mentioning him again (!!!!!!!), an absolute cracker, the move great, the finish (‘eased into the net’), absolute top drawer … Barcelonesque ….. sh1T, done it again :pinch: :pinch:

    Indeed, priceless :pinch:
