Have done it again. Congratulations to them.
.
Indeed. If only ….
He always gets slated by me and those around me because of exactly that.Yes, he can put a good ball in every now and again but Ryan Taylor could take a good free kick. Doesn’t mean they should be in the side “just in case”
…
… he plays in McCarthy for the equaliser, Saturday (QPR).
Reading – goal assist (part played in 2 goals), etc. etc.
When did we last have a prolific striker. None under Bobs tactics. Is that the problem?
With a few long balls cutting out the tippy tappy maybe the strikers may start scoring goals.
In reality we have to live with what we have whatever that is.
Premier League after all is nothing to do with fans and supporters at all and our opinions mean
SFA on here and anywhere else. We just have to put up with the overated dross like we have done now going on in to 4 seasons.
Hugo Franco Moses Scotland Sammon Kone Boseli and others It isnt a coincidence that they dont score goals at Latics. Face it if they did they would be sold off cheaply anyway to keep subsidising the fortune that all the players take out of our game. How many goals did Di Santo score for chelski, blackburn when on loan…………. nothing to do with bobbys tactics and your watching the wrong team if you want the long ball route. Has for Moses at 1 point last season he was at the top of the list in the premier league for most attempts on goal
Unfortunately, at the time he scored away at WBA (last season) he also probably had the worst goals /attempts ratio since God invented Man !(commented on by MOTD pundits at the time)
Thankfully, he picked up at the end …
On the subject of taking taking chances, as Booby said only yesterday (Sunday Mail), we need too many chances to score a goal.
I think you”ve missed my point jpc,we signed Di Santo who didnt have a goal scoring record, moses was getting the chances and still wasnt scoring so donnys statement about bobbys tactics isnt correct
Aye, apologies.
Mind you, maybe the Moses example wasn’t the best (gets us on to a different theme).
Hopefully, our strikers, backed up by others chipping in, can start hitting the net with a little more regularity (goals /attempts), our defence ‘tight as a …..’)

No ..he must be a motivational coach..any more of this and I’m going on the gin . :side:Go hit the gin …

I suspect Messrs Hughton, Adkins etc. weren’t pussy footing around when their respective teams were shipping goals for fun, do you ????
Back to basics, few home truths told etc. etc.
Understand and address the shortcomings and the tide will surely turn. Hard work always reaps rewards.
Stick yer head in the sand ? Get what you always got !!
Mine’s a whisky, ta very much.
For all the slagging off of kone santo and Gomez the fact is for once under Martinez we are scoring goals this season and its defending which is the problem not just today, think we’re averaging 2 a game conceeded
Precisely, a point I’ve made a couple of occasions before, indeed some weeks ago (nothing’s changed)
Winning 3-2 every week, …its not going to happen.
A few facts and figures to focus the mind :
= Points earned (teams played in PL 2011/12) Played 12 Points SIX
(excludes WHU, Reading, Soton obviously)
Dress it up anyway you like (good performances etc.), not good enough.
Points (not performances) make prizes !!= defence: 2 goals /game
Our ongoing fundamental inability to defend set-pieces, crosses etc.
The likes of Norwich and Southampton all recently conceding goals for
fun have gone on a roll, … Back to basics approach … we should be
able to do likewise (start from the premise of NOT conceding a goal)Unfortunate 2nd goal conceded yesterday. That aside, thought Lopez had
another good game; like his ability to anticipate and time the tackle
/take the ball cleanly. Probably better in that regard than Caldwell,
certainly Ramis. The return of the likes of Caldwell (lucky to stay on at Newcastle)and
Ramis in itself will do little for the Goals Against Column …. we’ve
been running at 2 goals /game practically all season.Something a little more concerted will be required …. The team,as a
whole, stepping up to the plate.Would like to see Alcaraz back (difference he might make?), concerning
the fact that no likely date of return is currently known= Goal output (excl. Di Santo, Kone, Gomez)
Games 3 (16) Goals 5 (Ramis, McArthur, Watson, McCarthy(2)) Points 7
i.e. Goals impact in games concerned(WHU/Spurs/QPR) significant !
Improved goal output required to support front 3 (ditto 2011/12)
Are you a professor or something !
I, Manchester Business School.
A team full of old men,and not a good team at that, one of the poorest I have seen at the DW,we played ok and with a little more composer and nous we SHould have murdered them,I think Franco is overdue for a spot of bench warming
Agreed.
And if I were Fernandez (chairman), with thoughts on the amount of money pumped into the club, I’d be one very worried man. Shoddy state of affairs.

Praying for PL survival (££s TV money), to have the funds to go out next year, transform the team and rectify all the wrongdoings at that club.

Improved goal output required to support front 3 (ditto 2011/12)De Gea has come on in leaps and bounds and will be one of the best in the World one day. That save he made from Mata’s freekick against Chelsea was superb. Szczesny and Krul ( Not in my top 5 ) are two keepers also with age on their side, both with big futures !That may be, if he is, he’ll have come a LONG, LONG way.
But we’re talking in the present tense, NOW.
Has still been found wanting on crosses this year (pretty much on a weekly basis last – think Wigan (DW – disallowed goal), Blackburn (OT), etc. etc.
Krul was in excellent form for Geordies last year. This year, not sure ..
Arsenal – haven’t had a top class goalie since David Seaman, as far as I can recall …
What’s with all the Ali bashing from everyone recently?De Gea was being called a flop last season, and both Cech and Hart have been prone to a cock up or two over the past year.
goodpost
Couldn’t agree more.
As for opposition:
De Gea: £19m for what … potential (to be confirmed). Recently kept out the Utd team by Lindersgaard …says it all. Ability to command his area – absolutely non-existent.
Cech and Hart have both dropped more than the one b*llock for both club and country in the past 2 seasons (if you care to cast your mind back). Remarks along the lines of Cech past his best (TV pundit?) and Hart too full of himself /off the boil (R Keane)
I will go for 13 points from that lot.. :S RM manager of the month..Happy Xmas .E2 singing where all going on a European tour..DW telling everyone how good RW is..Full house against Manure..Darksiders extinct.. :woohoo:
given today’s results and recent form (WHU, Swans, Stoke), we’re going to need your 13 points, to get back in touch with the pack (DW aspirations of top 10/12 finish) ! All 3 on a roll, worst luck.
QPR next up (H) – tricky !
Newcastle win
QPR win
Norwich draw
Arsenal draw
Everton defeat
Aston Villa win
To be fair I think we may have our purple patch now akin to the end of last season. This is easily the best Latics team since the 2005-06 season and I feel 14 points so far is a tad disappointing but I think we will have a great month.
hope so, getting the injured back will be a big help (competition).
Can’t for the life of me understand what’s wrong with Alcaraz (that’s some groin problem he’s gon’t …obviously ain’t getting enough R&R!)

I wouldnt swap him for any other keeper in the world, keeping us in the game with a cracking save at 2-2…again. Loves to play for the club, we are very lucky to have him, thanks Bowton.
Agreed
At the risk of stirring up an hornet’s nest, looks like us 2 ‘buffoons’ have been vindicated.
The words of one, who most of us would agree know’s one or the other thing about the beautiful game …
Thankfully, Al Habsi’s blushes were spared when Jordi Gomez completed his hat-trick deep into stoppage-time, with the goalkeeper’s relief being written all over his face as his team-mates celebrated.
And Martinez believes the fact that so much has been made of the 30-year-old’s blunder is a reflection of his incredible consistency since joining Latics two-and-a-half years ago.
“I wouldn’t take any other keeper to replace Ali and that’s how much we rate him,” Martinez insisted.
“He’s the perfect goalkeeper for ourselves – he’s someone who can fit in in the way we want to play.
“He’s someone who’s still developing and in every aspect is the perfect goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic.
“I know that at international level, he is already an icon. We’ve been to Oman and we know what pressure he plays under, and it’s incredible to see him developing and growing and getting better.
“I still feel he’s got another step to get to and once he gets there, he’s a keeper who can compete in any sort of challenge to win a title, the Champions League or a World Cup.”
:P
Important to be pragmatic (aware of who we are etc.), not a@al.

Thank you both (Robbie, Ali) !!
The same Martinez who said that Ben Watson would play for England last season? Hardly an objective commentator ;)
The moral of the story is read carefully the opinion you are agreeing to. You can bang on about this until you are blue in the face but the fact remains that you both said that you wouldn’t have any other keeper in the world without ever adding the caveat “bearing in mind who we are”. Pedantic I might be, right I most definitely was ;)
Did we really need to? Bearing in mind this is a Wigan Athletic forum?
No !
Left-hand forehand, down the line, fantastic pass, ball called good (thank you Mr Umpire), GAME, SET and MATCH
goodpost goodpost goodpost
Nothing wrong with constructive debate, people should just rather be a little more choosy with the language they use (Buffoons, indeed) – or be prepared to get as good as they give.
More the constructive, less the destructive (nit-picking etc.); more the pragmatic, less the anal, if you please
Kone with one goal in the last seven games is hardly setting the World alight and so why not give The Argentinian a start. Who knows the two Argentinians may forge a good partnership together ! I think Kone gets the nod because of his strength and ability to hold the ball but for me he is a little capricious and his tracking back has started to wain a little also, perhaps getting a little complacent like others eh !!plus ability to hit the net (granted he’s missed two gilt-edged opps. in the last 2), plus ability to remain composed and play the quality ball e.g. in to Gomez for winner, Reading /Sat. (previously, 2x Di Santo).
Di Santo and Kone combined offer pace, power AND goals. A goal threat.
Take a look at the stats – goals scored, assists etc.
Gomez assists, Reading – Di Santo (Beausejour), Beausejour and Kone !
Drop for Bosselli ??! :woohoo: Next
