Also, look at the fixtures page in the programme. Look at the collumn that shows are league position at each game stage. I’ve noticed that it has got gradually lower and lower throughout the season, rather like a boat with a hole in it, where people are bailing the water out. Eventually, it will sink, and I’m afraid that the time could come for us in the next couple of weeks. That week when we are at City on the Monday and Fulham on the Friday, will, I fear, be the point where we slip down into the mire.
Seem to recall you saying “come back in a couple of weeks when we are in the relegation zone after the Birmingham and Liverpool games” a few weeks ago Vat. Well we’re not exactly better off but no worse off, still 4 points clear of the drop zone. I hope you keep predicting it up until mid June and hopefully it will never happen
Unfortunately Bobby has decided to populate his squad with the following “dross”:
Gomez, Scotland, Amaya, Sinclair & Thomas
And (IMO) he’s brought in no-one who has produced the goods on a consistant basis – McCarthy, Caldwell & Diame whilst looking better than the above 5 have either not been playing for us long enough or had their fair share of stinkers (or both)Roberto’s transfer signings have been poor I agree, he should have bought Terry for £30m, Gerrard for £40m, Rooney for £50m and Messi for £100m and put them all on £300k a week
Instead he has spent very little on players unproven at this level and gambled on cheap foreign imports.
Anyone would think that he can’t afford to go out and spend £100m on a top class squad.
just wondering what the reaction will be on here should we get done 0-2. Im guessing….“we are ace, martinez is ace, the whole club is ace, we didnt need to beat burnley anyway….etc.etc”
Or will some of you finally accept that Bobs revolution was about as succesful as Watt Tylers.
It’s like you almost can’t wait for it to happen to prove how clever you are……….
I dont come on here to be liked. I come on to post an “alternate” view to the Pravda-style posting that frequents this board.I think you’re getting confused again mutty. RL fans is the Pravda style board where they all slag Latics off and ban any and all Wigan Athletic fans who simply want to respond and put their opinions across when THEY are telling lies about us but are not allowed to do so. The moderators over there are known for editing posters words ( I think it was it martinh who went on there last year to put some of the children right on a few things and got his words edited to imply that he was looking for a dog to perform fellatio on, very grown up I’d say )
The very fact that you are allowed to post on here, despite your only purpose being to cause mischief amongst Wigan Athletic fans shows what an open minded board this is.
You aren’t a Wigan Athletic fan, you are a rugby fan who actively takes a pop against a side he doesn’t care for, yet cares enough to be on this site 24/7. You have no business here other than to act the pure snide who comes on here to rub it in when your home town gets beat. I bet you feel a really big man don’t you? You’re not, you’re a snidey pathetic excuse of a man.
Either support Wigan Athletic or get off this website, we’ve got enough problems without some so called bell end of a Wiganer coming on here to mock his own town team. I don’t dislike you, I pity you with your small mind and petty point scoring.
Feel free to reply, you’re allowed to on here, unlike your own RLfans site. My advice would be to grow up and do one though.
Hang on where’s the bird gone with the pink top and fat arse who was in the queue for Galloways?
I was wondering who the rugby team were playing. Maybe a team from the West Midlands, or the Home Counties or the South West or North East. A team from one of those fine British cities such as Oxford, Southampton, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Bristol, Milton Keynes or maybe a Scottish team och aye the noo
No it’s yet another team from Hull
Any chance of you getting a ban from here? Why? He took your advice and went on on to the rugby board for banter and got banned, just like everyone else who tells them stuff that they don’t agree with.
Oh and this is a non football section so people are entitled to talk about anything they like
I sometimes feel that certain posters on here want to return to the so called dark days as if it was the norm !Nobody wants it. It’s just that the sensible posters on here recognise that it is a fight season on season to avoid it and realise that the best way to help the situation is by supporting the team and not booing and spreading discontent both at the games and on websites
Fantastic stuff, the best thing I have read about our club for years
You might be an Old Git but you are a wise old git ;)
I’ve said this before & I’ll say it again – Paul Jewell’s first season was not a disaster.
He started off very badly admittedly & we were hovering around teh bottom 4 & as you say got knocked out of the cup by Canvey Island but by Xmas he’d turned it around & in the back end of the season our form was play off material.
Yes you could look at the season before when we got to the play offs & say in comparison to that it was a step back but for me that was only in terms of league position. You could also see we were improving as the season went on
Can anybody really say that at the moment considering our record since the end of November? The two seasons are completely incomparible, apart from the fact we were shit for some or most of both. Jewell had a much healthier transfer & wage budget than most of other League 2 clubs at the time. Spending £1.2m on Ellington is probably the equivalent of us spending £12m on a player now. Roberto has one of the smallest transfer budgets in the Premier League and there is massive disparity in wages from probably around £5k – £170k a week whereas in League 2 most players earn between £500 – £2000. You can buy your way out of the third tier even now with a couple of million quid, what does a couple of million quid buy Roberto – a few months wages for a couple of players.
Its a different league. Jewell had the sort of money in League 2 equivalent to a Top 4 club in the top flight. It was just a case of getting the right players and we were away. To use that in reverse, Martinez is running with a Cheltenham Town sized budget, probably can’t afford the players he really wants and some people on here still demand that we should be in mid-table
What a poor interview, there has been no specific questions asked and it appears all the fat men in the photo would have been sat there star struck.I’m sure if you had been there natdan you would have been Dimbleby, Marcotti, Morgan, Snow and Wossy all rolled into one nailing the clueless Spaniard to the cross time and time again with your superior footballing knowledge
There is a world of difference between banging away at a keyboard the same inane nonsense every day and being a skilled media interviewer and very few master it. They took your questions and Roberto agreed to meet and answer them, what more do you want?
Only time will tell for the majority of us whether it is “spin” or he can deliver against his ideas but sadly I fear that whatever he does he will never be good enough for people like yourself
Personally I like to think of Wigan as a sporting town. We had top teams in both codes of rugby (until Whelan got at Orrell) and football and we are still one of only two towns to have top flight rugby league and football clubs.
Any rugby fan who doesn’t recognise that Latics are a major force in the town is an idiot. The same can be said for any Latics fans who say the rugby isn’t a key part of the town’s identity.Nothing wrong with that at all. I share your vision despite all the bad mouthing from the RL side. I am old enough to remember when many Wiganers watched both the Latics and the rugby and Liverpool/United as well in many cases. In the early 80s and when we got into the league Latics had the better crowds and a young Scholes used to potter past Central Park when there barely 3000 on. And then one Maurice Lindsay came along and on the wave of a load of challenge cup wins rather than embrace the little club across the town tried to finish the cheeky upstarts off and created the bad blood that has turned a generation against each other. It’s a shame that this cannot be reversed, the two clubs are more or less at parity now.
Despite the past, most Wigan Athletic fans only dislike the rugby fans because of the stuff they come out with about us now. You will not here any anti-rugby songs at Latics any more and rugby fans walk freely around the DW on Latics match days. You cannot say the same about the rugby; a friend of my son was verbally abused by some middle aged coward for wearing a Latics shirt under his jacket at the Hull KR game and of course they have their famous ( stolen from Man U ) Take me Home song, plus dozens of signatures and avatars on RL fans wishing relegation and extinction on their own town’s football team. Change the attitude of these people and you won’t have a problem, nor will you have anti-rugby threads on here.
The disconnect with reality on the rugby side can be amusing.
Pre-season they never let a Latics match pass by without slating the attendance. A few games into the rugby season they make excuses for their below expected attendances, claim all will be fine once the ticket promotions kick in (something they criticise Latics heavily for), then go on about averaging 20k in a few years time! What’s amusing is anyone who tries to compare attendance figures for the biggest sport in the biggest league in the world with a small, minority sport like rugby league.[/quote]
What’s even more amusing is when yet another egg chaser comes on here and expects to be taken seriously after all the bullying, derision and ridicule thrown at Latics fans from 25yrs ago to present day, including tons of digs on their site at present and doesn’t expect Latics fans to reciprocate. People reciprocate on here because they get banned off Rlfans for attempteing to redress the many lies told about Wigan Athletic on there.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with comparing the respective club’s attendances because for decades Wigan Athletic fans have had the words ‘its a rugby town’ rammed down our throats, and are simply pointing out that this is yet another lie perpetuated by the media. Not a match passes by without derogatory comments about our results and crowds on RL fans,Wigan world or Wigantoday from rugby fans so why shouldn’t people on here give a little back
Are you happy with Wigan being incorrectly portrayed as a rugby town even though Wigan Athletic gets bigger crowds, plus there are also a few thousand match going Utd/City/Liverpool/Everton fans in the town?
This is a Wigan Athletic fans site and we simply want the truth to be told, would you prefer for lies to be told about Wigan Athletic?Latics fans hate the rugby because they tried to kill us
Rugby fans hate Latics because they exist
Never forgetNot trying to embarrass the manager by raising the question, but if we have not got a specific fitness trainer, perhaps we need to get one?I think we are fine fitness wise, Whelan made a nice saving by getting shut of the fitness coach and instead gets Brenda to run a “bums & tums” class for the players on a Thursday afternoon
Scholes mon don’t take Mutty on armchair spec of the highest order his opinoins are null and void   :lol:I know that,I just like proving it 8-)
