Hesselink gone to Hull
Whelan backed out when he realised how much it’s cost to print his name on the back of his shirt
1976-1977 4,699
1977-1978 5,544
1978-1979 4,505
1979-1980 4,665
1980-1981 4,744
1981-1982 5,497Not so ancient and loyal then
Yes of course, the club on the edge of bankruptcy (again) inflated the crowd so we could pay more tax……At the time there was an article in a football magazine when the then club’s commercial manager (Linda Fillingham) admitted that if the crowd was 3,999 she would never give out a crowd of less than 4,000. I don’t think it happened all the time, I am giving you my first hand account of that day, and even after getting used to crowds of under 1,500, it was still down by 500 on that that particular day. What’s your view of the crowd that day, or were you at the rugby with the rest of Wigan?
Oh and club’s on the verge of bankruptcy and running at a loss don’t generally pay tax.
All for giving a player a chance, and then you write him off after three games?
OK
True but I think you’ll find there were a few more than 1200 on when we played Plymouth.I doubt there was more than a thousand on that day. I think we inflated the crowd as there couldn’t have been more than 800 on. The rugby were at Wembley if I remember rightly and they had Shilton in nets
Well done for writing off a player after three games
He obviously divides opinions – there are those who want a team full of headless chickens and those who appreciate a player who has great control, technical ability and passing skills. Those who know a footballer and those who don’t basically. He bagged nearly 20 goals last season from midfield. A little bit slow maybe, dare I say he is in a very similar mould to Martinez himself. It might take him time to adjust but as a former Espanol and Barca youth team player, he will come good.
I wouldn’t be surprised if people off here calling for his head now are voting for him as player of the season in 8 months time. And it wouldn’t be the first time, tons of people screaming for Bruce to get rid of Bramble when we got stuffed 4-0 at home by Villa last October, he then gets voted player of the year.
I apologise in advance for giving a player a chance, it doesn’t seem to be the done thing on here
My mate’s just sent me a text, apparently we are being linked with a South African striker, who plays for Orlando Pirates, or something?I don’t believe it
You’ve got a mate
The only act Whelan needs to do is poach that Mick Hogan from Wigan Rugby and give him the job of marketing the club and getting our gates back on the rise
Trouble is it would cost him compared to the peanuts he pays Spencer but it would be the best signing he could ever make
Both of them should be banned
After all, if any Wigan Athletic fans go on the hotbed of propaganda that is RL fans.com to take issue with the many lies and slurs they make about our football club, we get banned instantly.
Seems they don’t like the truth. Maybe they just don’t like Wiganers, with most of them coming from out of town
If people on here don’t like rugby league then it’s probably because they have seen their chairman laugh at us on national telly, refuse to let us use their ground, had the council in their back pocket throughout the 80’s getting them to close parts of our ground and refusing to help us out financially. Along with their general belittling of us and unwillingness to offer any support to the impoverish lower league club in the town in the hope we would go out of business and fade away.
I don’t know where you were then pal but I lived through that and it wasn’t pleasant
What did Wigan Athletic ever do to hurt Wigan Rugby? Nothing – but they still treated us like sh*t
So don’t try to make out that the two scenarios are even remotely the same
We hate them because they tried to kill us
They hate us because we still exist21 August 2009 at 12:26 pm in reply to: Wigan Wasps Wigan Rovers Wigan Cycling Club East Stand #5914Billy Buxton ?!?!      :lol:Your all that obsessed you have to pretend you dont know who he is     Your obesession with all things Wigan RL knows no bounds….your even dilluding yourself that you dont know who the towns most famous Sporting Icon is!!
You would have to have lived under a rock for the past 50 years to not know who billy boston is in wigan…..then again most of you fools are from skem arent you!!
No we’re not, in fact you dense twat there is a clue to my domicile in my name
I’m not sure where you are from but the schools couldn’t have been very good judging by your punctuation and sentence structure
80% of Wigan Athletic fans are from Wigan
61% of Wigan Warriors fans are from Wiganso if anyone has got fans from Skem it is more likely to be Wigan Warriors
On a Wigan Athletic matchday the bridge over the canal is clogged up. On a Wigan Rugby matchday, the roads are clogged up, the reason being that your fans drive to the games, ours walk it because they live in the area. Wigan Athletic do not bus in hundreds of Amateur League clubs in on matchdays from out of town to try and keep up with their neighbours, nor do they give a whole stand away to sponsors to avoid getting a sub 10k crowd
Now get back to the third world board with all the other fat dinosaurs telling LIES about our football club because you can’t accept the truth, you’ve already been run off here twice with facts and reasoned argument, in fact you came out with a load of racist drivel last time if I recall
Climb back under your rock, no doubt we’ll see you again in a month when the thread has disappeared
Not exactly done us any favours for Saturday that
Can’t see United losing two on the bounce
20 August 2009 at 12:22 pm in reply to: Wigan Wasps Wigan Rovers Wigan Cycling Club East Stand #5784Oh and while I’m on, 40% of the rugby’s 12,000 home fans aren’t actually from Wigan at (from their official website) so the number of actual Wiganers who watch them is closer to 7,200 as the other 4,800 cannot really be considered ‘home supporters’ as they do not come from the home town of the club
They ferried in thousands of Amateur RL players from pit villages all across the North for the Leeds game – they aren’t really home supporters are they?
Still, you keep believing the propaganda……
I just wish Whelan would do something similar about our crowds, if he spent a bit of money on marketing, we could actually get the crowds that he so dearly wants
Instead, he’s too busy mouthing of to the press, telling lies and generally rubbing our fans up the wrong way and then complaining when they don’t come back the next season
20 August 2009 at 12:12 pm in reply to: Wigan Wasps Wigan Rovers Wigan Cycling Club East Stand #5780why not be happy that now you are the towns big club (although as stated, both sides get around about the same home attendance)Where has this been stated?
I reckon:
Latics average 18,500, rugby average 14,500
Average away support at Latics is 3,500 (from the programme)So even allowing for no away support at rugby, Latics still get more
There are probably 2,000 away fans on average at rugby games (when you consider Saints bring 7-8,000) so there home support is around 12,000 versus 14 v 15k of ours.
And their number includes around 1,500 a game who don’t actually turn up but they count anyway.
Latics only count those in attendance, the rugby count the number of tickets they’ve sold, or more often given away – a whole stand in the case of one game last year
You need to decide which side your on as if you’re going to come out with drivel like that then it’s clearly not ours. I’ve not seen anyone sticking up for Latics amongst the hatred filled liars and bullshitters over at RLfans.com.
Fulham is in London, which makes a big difference when a player is considering a move
They’re in Europe and their ground though small is usually quite full and in a very affluent area
This is probably why they tend to hang on to players better than us
