  • in reply to: Wigan. Has it had a sport revolution? #12861

Hmm Ian Botham played for Scunthorpe but to my knowledge there has never been a major international sports star from that particular town. Kevin Keegan was born in Donny if that helps our fat fingered egg chasing lurker

I don’t really understand why there should be so much pride in Wigan producing so many international rugby league players, there aren’t really internationals at all. You can only really call yourself an international if your sport is played internationally and rugby league is only taken seriously in 3 or 4 countries. Can you really call it a World Cup when 99% of the world doesn’t play it? It’s like saying the Spanish are world champion bullfighters or Ireland produces the best Gaelic footballers. The Great Britain team don’t really represent GB either, they represent the hand ful of towns who bother to play the game. When noone else plays it, the sentiment is quite meaningless. I mean, why would somewhere like Birmingham or Newcastle produce international RL Stars when they don’t even play the game? Where else other than Wigan, St Helens, Warrington Hull Bradford or Leeds would a RL player come from? They barely play it anywhere else

The cheese rollers in Gloucestershire will be claiming to be international cheese rollers next

Sorry I got it wrong they had over 8000 on against Fulham, their biggest crowd of the 1980/81 season

Compares favourably to the 3216 they mustered up against Huyton or 3236 v Batley

Must have been the 4800 travelling Fulham fans for that game then

Still, Wigans a rugby town

in reply to: Feedback from MOTD2 about their crowd size obsession vs Fulh #12804

the last time Wigan RL played Fulham there was less than 4000 on if i recall

it was a top of the table clash as well (division two)

no idea how many fulham brought of that 4000 though

I’m not sure the back to goal or one up front thing stacks up as he played all last season up front on his own for Swansea and scored about 30 goals, it can only be because hes playing against better defenders. But something will come his way soon. I don’t even remember him having too many chances yet this season, but when he does he’ll take it with his goal scoring record. People were calling Rodallega the new Aghahowa after half a dozen games. I understand why peole are getting shirty about it when we’ve only got one forward and Boycey has scored more than him this season but we have to judge him on a season not the first few games

    in reply to: JCL? #12801
You could use ” Newcomer” as a synonym for a ” Johnny Come Lately ” JLC. So nothing derogatory there and further answering your question, if you have been coming on since we moved then you do not fall into the aforementioned category !

This last bit is simply not true. That first season we moved to the JJB our crowds doubled from 3500 to 7000 and i was amazed at those first few games as it was full of people who used to openly take the p1ss out of me for being a Latics fan. rugby fans who used to sneer down their noses at Latics and people I’d gone to school with in the 70’s and 80’s who never had any interest in Latics even though Gidlow Middle was only a few hundred yards away.

There’s loads of kids now probably anyone up to the age of 25 who were simply too young to have bothered with Springfield, they probably wouldn’t have either if Whelan hadn’t have come along and moved us to the new ground so moving has been a positive thing in that we attract the young uns more easier. Good on em, as vat says not jcls, every kid now should grow up loving their local club although its not easy with sky etc

JCLs are the middle aged fellas who never went to Springfield Park, supported another team or the ones who claim to go when we were in non league even though our league crowds were under 1500 in the 70s abnd again in the 90s. Using those crowds as a base when we were really shit 90% of our fans are jcl’s and have never seen us get beat at Barnet when 92nd in the league or relegated against Plymouth. Youd never get 9% of our fans to admit they werent there though let alone 90. Wiganers are just fickle as anything, that last season before we got into the league, we’d get 1200 for a league game against Stafford Rangers and then 15000 against Sheffield Wednesday in the cup. If we’re honest, Theres not many out there who really did stick with the club through all the lean years despite the many thousands who now claim they did

Why don’t you pair of bell ends f*ck off and stop spoiling what used to be a decent board before it got full of your rubbish

in reply to: Home Grown Quotas #11296

It is a fact that there are more empty seats at a rugby game than at a football game at the DW Stadium so it would therefore be an obvious conclusion for anyone capable of basic maths to make

Furthermore, you are not a Wigan Athletic fan, you are a Wigan Rugby fan so why on earth would you have a picture of a football game when you have said in the past that you are not a Wigan Athletic fan and you only attend the DW for rugby games

As you are not a Wigan Athletic fan, why would you even be concerned about where our players come from? Why not let those of us who haven’t turned our back on our home town club worry about that.

As an egg chaser/poor wind up merchant, you should be grateful that you are even allowed on here, given that any Wigan Athletic fan who seeks to address the lies and slander posted on RLFans gets immediately banned by the Nazi moderators on there who don’t like being told facts about the popularity of relevant sports in the town

You seem to be bragging the other day about being in the RAF. Well heaven help us if people like you are defending our country, as time and time again on here you have shown yourself to be a petty, small minded snidey excuse of a man who needs to grow up.

    in reply to: rumour #10496

No I wasn’t referring to you Arky

I was referring to WTBMA, or Wigan’s Turning Blue My Arse to give him his full title

    in reply to: rumour #10476

going round manc land that city are going to/have bought a shed full of tickets for our ends.
    anyone else heard owt?

No different to any other game. The majority want to see the City’s Utd’s Bolton etc.[/quote]

I didn’t see any Chelsea fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Wolves fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Pompey fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Spurs fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Arsenal fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Villa fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Sunderland fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any West Ham fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Fulham fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Bolton fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Blackburn fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any Middlesbrough fans in our end when we played them
I didn’t see any West Brom fans in our end when we played them

So come on then you egg chasing idiot, prove what you just said?

Prove that all of the above games contained away fans in the home end or just admit that you’ve just come out with a load of bollcks and made yourself look like a complete muppet

Maybe a few hundred Everton, United & Liverpool fans have been in our end when we’ve played them – it’s inevitable when there are wankers like you who probably live in Wigan but don’t support the local football team because they chose to gloryhunt rather than support their local team but that is 3 games out of 19, 4 including City.

Every game contains a shed load of away fans in the home end according to you, well come on then PROVE IT you tit or stick your nose out of things which don’t concern you and stick to your little minority sport…..

    in reply to: Gomez #8595

So as we’ve won today, rather than being pleased you just come on and have a go at a player

I suppose if that shot would have gone in, you’d have asked it to be chalked off?

in reply to: South Africa World Cup #8552

have the South Africans got a mob?

in reply to: So Whats The Point #8551

The point for me is loyalty

I was born in Wigan, grew up in Wigan and may well die in Wigan and have supported Wigan Athletic for over 30 years

They are my team, and always will be and that’s the reason I turn up, no matter how much they piss me of

If the small matter of us not winning anything if enough reason to question why you bother then you aren’t much of a football fan

There are fans of other clubs up and down the country who go a lifetime without seeing their team win anything, but they still go because it is their team and they are loyal.

Apart from a handful of top teams, this is the existence of a football supporter: to put up with years, even decades of sh1t in the vain hope that for the odd year or two, your team might actuallty achieve something

If all you’re bothered about is results then go watch United with the rest of the sheep in Wigan

    Hope that helps

in reply to: It looks like both clubs are struggling to get bums on seats #8322

Surely not, it was only a couple of months ago Heinz shelled out and “bought” over 5,000 tickets for a Warriors game, no doubt at full price in an arm’s length transaction??

Or are you saying that was actually just a marketing scam dreamt up to avoid Wigan Warriors getting a sub 10000 gate?

    in reply to: Break #8119

It would be a great break if half our team weren’t jetting off around the world, not due back till Thursday. I guess the excuse is already lined up if we look sluggish on Saturday as all two of our forwards will be on the other side of the world for the best part of a week, not sure West Ham have the same problem as us in this respect

As we’ve got Arse and Chelsea after that though we need a big result against West Ham
