I would dispute the idea that the lightside offer nothing constructive.Think you have that the wrong way round.I would say that the lightside are 100% constructive & the darkside are destructive most of the time. The lightside mantra seems to involve supporting the team & supporting the manager, how can this not be constructive ? This is what football fans are supposed to do isnt it ?

I fail to see anything remotely constructive about continually slagging off a managers every move and decision, calling him a clueless clown & generally kicking up the same old stink day after day, hour after hour. How on earth is that constructive?

If the lightside offer criticism it is generally levelled at those supporters as mentioned in the above paragraph who spend all day on here repeatedly criticising the team & the manager.

As supporters we are all equal & entitled to our opinion. But the darkside by token of their continual criticism aim their criticism of the manager & seem to think they are far more qualified to run a football club than he is despite their lack of qualifications, professional experience of playing & managing a football club.

Still i bet youre all shit hot at Champ Manager

Ah yes,Crawley town.Came into money & progressed through the leagues & carried on steamroling their way through the bottom divisions despite their traditional past as a non league club. They were backed by a benefactor prepared to spend big who took all the new fans they picked up along the way on a fantastic journey.Alas the new fans have only ever known success & progression and will be just as quick to throw there toys out of the pram should that progression ever grind to a halt.
Sound familiar does it ??

As you are into odds Mr Rodenailbarqueen what’s your odds on over 60,000 turning up at the DW for the next 3 home games against Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool.

37,600 against two clubs who are still in the Champions League – it can still be done if just 22401 show up on Wednesday night for the visit of one of the most famous clubs in the World. I believe the scousers have played their part in selling all their tickets, and it appears that about 1,000 of them bought tickets in the South Stand for the Chelsea game, then didnt show up, just so they had a booking history.

Hope you put your tenner that you won on the 4-nations attendance on this one Rodders as it would make a very Merry Xmas for you!
What fascinating but ultimately flawed on many level analysis there by the cockneylatics prize dunce Mutty. You seem to be saying that Wigan Athletics support can be judged by who it is they are playing. Why should it matter who Wigan Athletic are playing : Wigan Athletic fans go to watch Wigan Athletic not the opposition.

Wigan Athletics highest and lowest crowd of the season are 15796 and 19280 in either case, no more than a deviation of 1591/1893 from the seasonal average of 17689 and no more than 3484 people turning up to the most attended game than the least attended game.

What a remarkable example of resilience amongst Wigans football fans

Sadly with the rugby support consisting of a large number of out of town day trippers it seems this doesnt hold true in the oval ball code as although Wigan Warriors managed 24057 in their most attended game, a massive 11244 fans go missing when it comes to the clubs lowest league attendance (12813)

Are rugby fans really that fickle?

Maybe Saints bring 11244 fans, that would explain it

So the natural conclusion we can draw from this fact based analysis is that most Wigan Atletic fans turn up week in, week out ( 80% of them ) regardless of the opposition whereas Wigan Warriors fans only turn up for the big games with nearly 50% of them going missing when the lesser lights go to town.

Still I’m not surprised after all we won the league and you were fighting relegation. Oh no hang on I got that bit the wrong way round

Anyway, thanks for highlighting how loyal football fans are and how fickle rugby fans are when it comes to their respective league campaigns.

You really do help to reaffirm just what a loyal bunch our Latics fans are

…….loads of munich fans there,

You prize w@nker.

Fair play though, I’m surpirsed someone as thick as you can spell Munich.
Griff,he may not be the sharpest tool in the box but I read that to mean he was actually referring to Munich as in Bayern Munich not Utd fans

Or Wigan rugby & United

Or Wigan rugby & Liverpool

Its incorrect to say that Steve Bruce bankrupted us.

Aside from the fact that the club was never bankrupt, Steve Bruce only spent the money that Dave Whelan told him that he could spend. Its not as if Whelan told him he had a transfer & wage budget of £10mill & Bruce went out, said sod it & spent £30mill instead.
Every manager we’ve ever had operates within the budgets that the club allows – its only Whelan decided 6 months before Bruce left that the business model the club had been operating wasn’t sustainable & decided to try & start making it self-sufficient

I didn’t say he had bankrupted us, but if he came back now & run up the sort of losses he did when he was manager, we would be insolvent, specially now Whelan has converted his debt to equity.

You are right to say it is dependent on the chairman but the above results are comparing one manager Bruce who racked up £15m in losses in one year versus Martinez who is managing the club to break even.

Hes done better at Sunderland but racked up a whopping £28m losses there

it also stands to reason that if Martinez had £15m more to spend than Bruce his record might be better

It depends waht you want, a short term motivator who will get the club saddled with debt or someone will take a longer term view and rebuild the club from grass roots upwards whilst making it sustainable instead of being reliant on one man

in reply to: I BET #75305

Well what are we wating for. Lets get him back & let him finish the job he started
Bankrupting us

in reply to: 4 nations world cup 2013 #75304

This offer is indeed true but he was talking about the cost of each game which in this case is £25-30 per ticket

You will not get a ticket for £19.33 for each of these games

You can get a ticket for all the games if you can find 59 quid a few weeks before Christmas, this might be loose change to you wherever you live but for the average Wiganer on low wages it isn’t. I suppose you think all those millions of people out on the streets yesterday were all celebrating their immense wealth were they? Are you going to write that off as an excuse like you usually do you utter plantpot?

Nothing worse than trying to make someone look stupid and only succeeding in looking stupid yourself

Let him have his moment,he’s been proven wrong for 2 & half yrs now.Loudmouth’s entitled to gloat & positively revel in our demise.at last his personal vendetta against Martinez is being vindicated.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. ;)

in reply to: who is worst ever latics manager since joining the #73169

In many ways there are similarities between Martinez and Swain in that they both have to manage clubs with very poor crowds and very little available money for the level they are playing at. With a restricted wage bill and small transfer pot,Kenny was restricted to unproven cast offs from Crewe and old past it pals such as Mick Kennedy & Brendan Ormsby. Martinez has to rely on the lowest gates in the division a small wage bill, sell before you can buy & rely on untried foreigners & old pals such as Gomez & Scotland.

Of course many of us have since done our City & Guilds in football finances. As others have said, we get poor crowds,Whelan doesn’t want to invest any more & nor does anyone else. Its not rocket science to see both then & now that poor crowds/income & lack of investments = weaker squad & poor results at any level of football.

Both Swain & Martinez are / where relatively inexperienced at the level they operate at but also work ( ed ) under the kind of financial restrictions that are / were likely to prevent any sort of sustained challenge up the table

The main difference is there were 1500 Latics fans then many of whom voiced their disapproval at the time but you could argue had earned their right to as they had paid their money through the turnstiles. If we’d got dicked 3-0 at Colchester or Scunthorpe you wouldn’t have an army of bedwetters..er bedroom dwellers and pub goers on here dissecting the tactics minutes after or even during the game who have watched it on a live feed.

I suppose if it came down to a vote Martinez would romp it over Swain seeing as 90% of the 15000 who watch us now were nowhere to be seen when Kenny Swain was manager and therefore don’t have a clue how bad we were

I’d go with Deehan because he had decent financial resources compared to the other two and chose to play negative, defensive dross on so many occasions when he had the players to be more attack minded

Where have I moved the goal posts? Ive stated the FACT that both teams get the same number of home fans. Like it or not its true.

Dearie me,this is fun :angry-banghead:

Nobody was talking about the number of home fans both teams get now, the scenario your friend was referring to was in 2006 & I quote the club’s ‘darkest hour’ (sic)

You are probably right about having the same number of home fans now but you are comparing a team that has just won the league versus a team that finished 16th in it’s league for the 2nd consecutive year running & spent most of that season in the relegation zone.
You are falling into the trap every rugby fan has done recently of coming crawling out of the woodwork following a period of success after five years in hibernation. You all want to discuss crowds now you’ve won something. Don’t you find this a tad hypocritical ?

Lets go back to the darkest hour of 2006 then :

Wigan Warriors finished 8th average attendance 14445
Wigan Athletic finished 17th average attendance 18158

I would make that about 13000 home fans for the rugby & 15000 for Wigan Athletic

What sort of crowds do you think Wigan Athletic would get if they were top of the Premier League or reigning Premier league champions ?
Or if season tickets were under £200 and £26 for kids ?
And counted whether they turn up or not ?
Or every single home game wasn’t beamed into nearly every pub in the borough or available on the net ?
Or they gave away an entire stand once a season, that little stunt alone ups the average by over 400 ?
Or we had a team that won more than 5 games out of 19 at home all season ?

You are comparing crowds between a team who is reigning champions of its league with one that has spent several years – not a ‘ darkest hour ‘ or stretching it at best a few months – battling relegation

All I did was revert back to a period where Wigan Rugby genuinely spent a few years in the doldrums, battling relegation & ultimately getting relegated & confirmed that their crowds were under 5000

So thanks for your completely random FACT. I have now helped this along by putting it in context for you by providing a relevant comparison.

8-)

:text-goodpost:

I suspect this is the point where someone will remind us all that if you travel to a rugby match as a home supporter from outside a 5 mile radius of the DW, then you shouldnt count towards the crowd figure.

Why is it a good post ? As everyone can see It has NO RELEVANCE WHATSOEVER to the subject matter being discussed

Do you two need a hand moving those goalposts?

Im not interested in changing the subject thank you, Id rather you responded to the facts I have presented on this issue rather than coming out with a load of random speculation about something else

The whole inference from the post which mutty tried to embarrass Griff over was that Wigan Warriors get behind their team when in danger of relegation or darkest days or when the going gets tough or whatever emotive language you want to call finishing between 6th & 8th for a few years in a league which you cant even get relegated from now at all whereas Wigan Athletic fans desert their team when faced with similar circumstances.

Let’s have a recap of the facts which I have presented to prove that you are talking BS :

1 Using Muttys own facts which he used to prove that Wigan Warriors crowd increased dramatically when they faced ‘dark days’, the average attendance only actually went up by 203 for the last three months of this terrible, dreadful season ( where WW actually finished 8th ) so much for getting behind the team in it’s period of adversity.
2 I then pointed out the respective rise in Wigan Athletics attendances over a similar period when faced with a similar situation, it went up by 1465, seven times more. Your attempts to state this is down to away fans in home ends is speculative, incorrect and quite frankly ludicrous
3 During this period of so called adversity Wigan Warriors generally finished between 6th-8th which in a 12/14 team league Im sure that everyone would agree is no worse than mid-table, hardly any need for all the dramatics around how tough RL fans in the town have had it. Try finishing 17th, 14th, 11th ( ooh the halcyon days ), 16th & 16th for the past five years and never more than a few points away from relegation and let’s see how resolute your fans are
4 But we know the answer to this, attendances dropped below 5k. When Wigan Warriors were actually relegated they posted such crowds as 3216 v Huyton or 3146 at home to Dewsbury.

Again, these are facts and facts knock speculation into a cocked hat. Maybe one day you will come back with some :?

I suggest you have a look at the size of the crowds in late 2006 Griff – in what was unquestionably the clubs’s darkest hour since the switch to summer rugby:

23 Jun 06 – Warrington (16103)
7 Jul 06 – Wakefield (13686)
14 Jul 06 – Salford (13630)
4 Aug 06 – Catalan (12647)
18 Aug 06 -Huddersfield (14092)
1 Sep 06 – Bradford (15830)
15 Sep 06 – Hull (16554)

Now, call me a cynic, but these crowds increased significantly from early in the season,

Total average attendance for Wigan Warriors season 2006 = 14445
Total average attendance for the above 7 games =14649

Wow – a whole 203 extra fans turned up to support Wigan Warriors in their hour of need :violin:

Let us again compare and contrast what happened when Wigan Athletic were last in danger of relegation:

Jan 25 FT Wigan Athletic 1-2 Aston Villa 16,442 Premier League
Feb 5 FT Wigan Athletic 4-3 Blackburn Rovers 18,567 Premier League
Feb 26 FT Wigan Athletic 0-4 Manchester United 18,140 Premier League
Mar 19 FT Wigan Athletic 2-1 Birmingham 16,421 Premier League
Apr 2 FT Wigan Athletic 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur 18,578 Premier League
Apr 30 FT Wigan Athletic 1-1 Everton 17,051 Premier League
May 15 FT Wigan Athletic 3-2 West Ham United 22,043 Premier League

Total average attendance for Wigan Athletic season 2006 = 16712
Total average attendance for the above 7 games =18177

An increase in average attendance of 1465, more than 7 times the Warriors equivalent

Youre not doing very well here mutty :angry-banghead:

in reply to: You couldnt make it up! #68762

This kind of sums you and your ilk quite well.

And this kind of sums up what you and your ilk do when confronted with facts
