With Norwich fighting to stay in the Premier League, David McNally (Norwich City CEO) was asked during a radio interview what relegation would mean for the club.
“The brief is to keep out of the bottom three and that is what we are doing. We will not contemplate relegation, in a sporting sense it is worse than death,” McNally said.
“I would prefer death rather than relegation. There is nothing more important than keeping this football club in the Premier League. We are all focused on that.”
Death…..!!!!
What a desperate state of affairs this staying in the Premier League has become.
More than desperate, its very sad I think. To come out with a ridiculous statement like that just shows how money has become the dictate before anything else.
I can say though,I’ve really enjoyed the Championship this season and not missed the Premiership one jot.
I’m gonna stick my neck out here and say do I really want Premiership football next season? Give me competing rather than struggling annually any day. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to see us at the top, but only if we could compete. I’m afraid this squad wouldn’t be able to in my opinion.
I know attracting good premiership quality players is/would be difficult for a club like ours, especially ones good enough to cut it with the level of spending/wages we offer.
The last 3 premiership campaigns nearly killed my desire to watch football. I don’t want to feel that again.
Good luck to him. I hope his move is a success and he progresses.
It makes a change that a player didn’t spit his dummy out, stamp his feet and cry like a baby to get a move. Maybe its a foreign/South American thing to do that, I’m not sure, but anyway, I thank him for his efforts a Latics player and wish him only well for the rest of his career.
For all the time he was in charge I kept by the line of “He is one of ours, we want him to do well”. When he left I – although saddened and disappointed – kept by the same mantra.
Last night though – I won’t be forgiving.
Whatever part he had in it, the poor offerings and very late eventual transfer left us with no time to invest in what we need – as someone said in other posts, a forward. Maybe that will come via the loan market but for now the late deal effectively shafted any option we had of immediate reinvestment – whilst QPR did get in some players who will make a difference going forward.
So for his part in that I really have lost the support I had for him. He was part of actions last night hat hurt us in terms of success this season. The decree nisi – the divorce is now complete. do I wish Everton bad? Sadly yes, they’re collateral damage, as I hope he goes down again and they have to go to make that happen.
Of course it’s just wishful thinking. Same as thinking he had some loyalty for us as we have still shown him.
Welcome to reality. If you thought at any time that a football manager/club (let alone one that has just left us) gives a shit about any club other than the one he is at, then think again my friend. Loyalty? That doesn’t exist, it’s dog eat dog.
Here is a collection of some cracking slide tackles all of which can be deemed far more dangerous than Mcmanman’s.
Rooney’s tackle on Sagna was absolutely appalling, and nothing was given! Unbeleivable how one tackle is interpreted so differently from another. Mind you, it was at Manure, where nobody gets any decisions
That’s an excellent way of sacking the prick pardew without having to compensate him for any of his ridiculous 8 year contract, brilliant Ashley, they really are a special kind of retarded club aren’t they? When was the last time they won anything?
Aye, Pardew will jack soon enough with this decision, thus no compen. A masterstroke by Ashley and one he’s no doubt made to get at pardew to walk after their showing last season.
An appointment that dosn’t whet my appetite, but I’ll reserve judgement about coyle by the number of players that depart and the quality that he brings in.
That’ll give us an idea of where we’ll be heading. Lord help him if it’s not going right after 10 games or so though.
Everton has no more of a war chest than we do. How many is he going to take?
Kenwright has already said Martinez has got money to spend. By this statement I doubt he means peanuts. I expect Moyes will also take Baines and/or Fellaini to Manure instilling more funds for transfers.
How do I know how many he’s going to take? How longs a piece of string?
he wasn’t called bottom three bob for nothing salford ;)
dont think its a case of sour grapes more of the way the 2hat left us
Yes with a big cup in the cabinet and a European tour on the horizon.
Absolute bastard isn’t he. How dare he leave us after winning the biggest competition in English football. As well as guaranteeing 6 money making games in Europe
Not yet, but he will be to most when he takes our best players – Will you be saying he isn’t when we’re struggling in the Championship? Cant see Whelan’s war chest coming out to replace them either
