It’s nice to be back.
And so much cooler than Copacabana.
One Cup Final win is no achievement when overshadowed by a top flight relegation and five failed attempts at Champions League football in a League were there are so many CL spots up for grabs.Martinez led Everton to their highest-ever Premier League points total, their first double over Manchester United in 45 years and equalled a club-record winning streak of seven games all in his debut season.
Everton finished fifth in the Premier League with a club-record Premier League points tally of 72. They were so close to a place in the Champions League.
72 points would have been enough for Champions League football in eight out of the last 10 seasons. Everton amassed the most points by a team in the era of four English qualifiers to the Champions League not to win a place.
“Oriol and Jordi were team mates at Barcelona and I think it shows you the regard that Jordi has for our club that he would help us in that way by talking to him and telling him about the benefits of signing for us.”
Thank you, Jordi. Have you mentioned us to Lionel too?
Beausejour’s contribution is often overlooked. Personally, I shall miss him. Perhaps he’ll be on television tonight.
April 2013; Jarvis, who was brought in from Wolves for this purpose in the summer, and Jean Beausejour at Wigan, are way out in front in the open play crosses chart, which also features Leighton Baines, Antonio Valencia and Gareth Bale.
Southampton transferred Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur for £7 million in 2007. Was that bad for Southampton, Tottenham, Wales or football in general?
We need to develop more home-grown talent, and this shows that Southampton are a club that can do it. Their list includes Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain too. Manchester United have signed Luke Shaw and Liverpool are interested in Adam Lallana.
We need more clubs who can find and develop players like these. Southampton have also sold Rick Lambert to Liverpool, so they obviously have some rebuilding to do under Ronald Koeman before next season.
Just hope there is a trip to Wembley in something and a consistent side playing fast attacking football with lots of goals. We’ve had more than our share of trips to Wembley. Don’t think that they have become part of our routine.
But a place in the Play Off Final would be acceptable!
Our attack’s a little toothless. We’ve got room for somebody with a bit more bite.
We could afford him – he wouldn’t want as many pies as Holt.
The match sold out – Bournemouth fans queued overnight to buy tickets. The newly-completed south stand brought the capacity up to almost 12,000.
Tickets cost £60 for adults, £45 for concessions, £30 for under-16s and £80 for executive seats, with a £5 reduction for season ticket holders.
And it’s just as well I didn’t go Barnsley.
I did go to;
Blackpool – lost
Burnley – lost
Bolton – drawn
Wembley – lost on pensThe cup win at the Etihad was the glorious exception. Very nearly as good as the cup win at Everton.
All credit to Alasdair. He wins a pair of brown shoes.
Where should we have the ceremony – the Anchor Inn or the Tardy Gate?
And who should we ask to make the presentation?
That would be ungentlemanly conduct!
And I’m sure that we’re all gentlemen here, including the ladies.
Who will rise to the bait?
I’m too busy just now, I’m afraid, but it’s nice to see this thread ticking over.
Roberto is looking for a new Academy manager now that Alan Irvine has been appointed as West Bromwich Albion’s new head coach. Alan Irvine had close links to David Moyes.
Gregor Rioch took over the Wigan Academy in December 2013 from interim manager Matt Jackson. So he is not one of Roberto’s appointments.
