He’s a candidate for best dressed manager!

The Everton fans expect Everton (wage bill £62 million) to perform better than Liverpool (wage bill £127 million).

    They may well be disappointed.

Figures – the latest published – come from 2011/12 season. Wigan had to manage on £37 million.

I think you’re saying that Moyes could get more out of the players he bought than Martinez will be able to do.

That wouldn’t be particularly damning. Do you think Moyes will be able to get more out the players Ferguson bought than Ferguson did?

The question that worries me is; will Coyle be able to create a successful team using the nine players that he has bought, plus the Premier League midfield he inherited?

We’ve still got a Premiership midfield. Are they obliged to misplace their passes in the Championship? Wouldn’t it be simpler if they just continued passing to each other?

It would help if the defence played through midfield too. At the moment they are missing it out.

What do you think the new system is?

Forest drew at Watford to go top of the Championship.

They should offer a good test on Saturday!

    That would be fantastic!

Wigan also want Sammy Ameobi – baby brother of Shola (Foluwashola) Ameobi – on loan. both appeared for Newcastle yesterday. Perhaps he would be a replacement for Dicko.

    Points needed today! After a comparatively easy introduction to the Championship, Wigan now face a much tougher run against promotion candidates;

    Leicester v Wigan Sat 14 Sep 15:00

    Wigan v Ipswich Sun 22 Sep 15:00

Jarvis (171), who was brought in from Wolves for this purpose in the summer, and Jean Beausejour (165) at Wigan, are way out in front in the open play crosses chart, which also features Leighton Baines, Antonio Valencia and Gareth Bale.

Beausejour finds a team-mate 21 per cent of the time, Baines 20 per cent and Valencia 21 per cent. But Bale is down on a paltry 12.5 per cent, which may explain why he shoots from range more often nowadays.

From the Daily Mail 4 April 2013

And West Ham paid £10 million for Jarvis!

Beausejour and Maloney together create chances for crosses from the left. Holt should eat them up.

We have general agreement on two forwards – Holt and Fortune. The only reserve seems to be Dicko, and other teams are showing an interest in him.

There’s plenty of choice in midfield – we’ve got twelve midfield players to choose from! And we’re looking at Powell too. Last season’s regulars seem favourite. McCarthy and McArthur are a good pair, and so are Maloney and Beausejour.

    Defensive; Watson, McArthur
    Attacking; Maloney, McCarthy, Gomez
    Winger; Beausejour, McManaman, McClean
    Plus Espinoza, McCann, Fyvie,Redmond

We haven’t got any choice in defence til the injured players recover. Then, at least, we’ll have some competition and cover.
Boyce, Perch, Barnett, Crainey plus Caldwell, Ramis, Garcia

    We haven’t seen Garcia yet, and are going to learn more about Perch, Barnett and Crainey. We should be able to put together a decent back four, perhaps;
    Boyce, Caldwell, Barnett, Garcia.

We’ve got four goalkeepers too. Carson seems to have made a good start.
    Carson, Pollitt, El Habsi, Nicholls

Listening to Jeremy Vine show now and are discussing homophobic remarks at football. Can’t wait to hear them young lads in the East stand shouting “Get up you big girls blouse” and other such rude stuff.

    Be careful!

“Get up you big girl” is considered sexist.

“Get up you big girls blouse” is offensive to larger than average transvestites.

I agree that we should be playing Fortune to support Holt.

“there was far more emphasis on getting the ball forward when we were behind than under Martinez”

That’s true, but last season we were minnows in the Premier League. This season, we’re comparatively big fish in a smaller pool. Barnsley narrowly escaped relegation last season, while Bournemouth and Doncaster were both in League One. We shouldn’t be afraid of them.

Last season, our reserves – including Boselli – won at Bournemouth in the Cup. And I seem to remember that we got forward quickly enough at Everton in the Quarter Final. It must have impressed Bill Kenwright.

Bruce wants him at Hull City – Tigers as they are now known.

    in reply to: Overeaction #119697

Coyle wants the players to change their mindset of perpetual underdogs. Then send them out with two forwards, Owen!

It’s reasonable to play one up at Wembley against Manchester United, but we’re in the Championship now. Barnsley just escaped relegation. Bournemouth and Doncaster were in League One last season. Our reserves beat Bournemouth away in the Cup!

Holt needs far better service and support than he got in the first half on Tuesday. The second half was much better. Holt had Fortune for support, and Maloney and Beausejour linked well on the left wing. It’s a pity the crosses weren’t a bit better.

On Sunday, let’s carry on where we let off on Tuesday.

PS We’re short of defenders just now. If we let Dicko go, we’ll be short of forwards too. Still, we do have four goalkeepers and twelve midfield players.

Martinez – at least he won at Bournemouth!
