I have faith in Roberto and wouldn’t like to see him sacked.
If he did however, I would go for someone who isn’t on your list – Mark Hughes.
BUT!
I don’t think Roberto will go and I don’t think he should.
Just wait till them fatties get on it at the weekend, dreading to see the state of it come the stoke game!Hopefully not as it will suit their long ball style play better than our on the floor style play. I think the pitch was as bad as our team last night (yes, that bad!!) and it stopped us getting the ball on the ground but why was Bramble giving Notts keeper catching practice during the game? Isn’t that what their goalkeeping coach should be doing at half time!
It worked at Villa, home to West Ham, home to Chelsea, home to City, at Burnley, home to Sunderland, at Stoke, at Wolves and it will work in more games before the end of the season.
The problem is not having the right players which he now has with Mo n Mo (Moses and Moreno) who will score goals (hopefully).
He is learning, he insists on winning and playing the right way and in time, I believe it will happen and no matter what anybody on here says Roberto will knows as well as anybody this season has been up and down and things aren’t working week in week out but he did say it would take 3 transfer windows and he promised to take the club to the next level.
Since he’s been in charge we’ve got to the 4th round of the fa cup which we haven’t done for how long? We have beat a top 4 side which we had never achieved before this season and more importantly we have a local hero, a Wigan Athletic legend in charge of our team who, in time will take this club forward.
The way I sum it up so far is that we’ve taken 1 step back and 1 step forward, in the 2nd half of the season we need to take 1 step back and 2 steps forward, we need to progress and not just win the odd game. Roberto is no mug, he is a manager and a good one at that. Have faith!
I agree with what you say and strongly believe Notts deserve to be through to the 5th round. I think they’ll take a good following to Fulham and really give it a go but if we had got through we’d have taken around 200 to Fulham and maybe played a weakened side.
I think Scotland did OK, should have buried that chance in the 1st half and I believe that would have totally changed the outcome of the game. He had a good shot and good header saved well in the 2nd half.
Stojkovic had a good game, 1 stupid save in the 1st half which he could have easily caught but was tested on more than 1 occasion and made 2 or 3 good saves.
I thought Bramble, Scharner, Koumas and Gomez were absolutely awful, an absolute joke of a performance by those 4 and Bramble should never wear that captains armband again.
Boyce, Figueroa, Diame, Sinclair and Caldwell were all poor BUT Sinclair had a few decent runs and touches, Diame was the only player who looked like creating anything, Caldwell didn’t do much wrong individually but he was part of the defence that conceded 2 goals against league 2 opposition, Boyce and Figueroa were below usual standards.
As for Martinez, I will defend him to a certain extent because he rested McCarthy, Thomas, N’Zogbia and Rodallega due to the game we have at the weekend (far more important than the cup game for me). He obviously thought we could beat Notts without them as we all expected and gave an opportunity for the likes of Sinclair, Koumas, Gomez, Scotland, etc to prove their worth to the team but all failed to do anything in my eyes.
I am looking forward to Saturday as we have reacted well to poor results in the past and the 9-1 tonking at Spurs was followed by Sunderland now we have an embarrasing cup result followed by a game at Sunderland. I hope Moreno gets his work permit before Saturday and Moses starts as I believe we need 2 forwards to liven up the team and start scoring goals. You don’t win games unless you score goals and with Scotland in the team partnered by Hugo (who’s form of late has been awful) we aren’t looking good with our only threat being N’Zogbia.
We have had a good transfer window, much better than the teams around us and the likes of Sunderland so we must now concentrate on the league which is our main priority and ensure we move up the table and don’t look down. I am quietly confident we can win on Saturday and hopefully kick start our season with a bit of consistency.
2-1 Wigan!
Bad example then? :D
Lets say Diame and McCarthy have been playing well then because Diame has been one of our better players all season and for me, had his best game at Anfield when he got injured and was out for a few weeks (bit of a set-back).
Scharner is just a versitile addition to our squad in my opinion, I like him BUT he can be poor. He missed a sitter at Blackburn.
The point of my thread was that we now have selection problems, cover and fight for every position AND a team that SHOULD be able to adapt to the formation and tactics we use under the King!

Moses to score 7 before end of season and N’Zogbia to win player of the season.
I will be there, looking forward to the game and am 100% confident we will win. I will be attending with my brother so that’s 2 so far + Griff + Yickticmon so we have 4. I would imagine we have 8-9k on in reality as it’s not an attractive fixture, it’s a tuesday night, there’s a virus going round and many people suffering with colds and flu + people may miss this game in order to pay for an upcoming game if they don’t own a season ticket or are going to an away game.
I didn’t go to the Hull game or the Notts County away game and I won’t be going to Fulham but that doesn’t make me a ‘whale fan’ as you put it, I was at Blackburn last week and attend every league game at the DW.
Personally, I would like to see:
Stojkovic
Boyce
Bramble
Caldwell
FigueroaScharner
DiameN’Zogbia
Moses
RodallegaMoreno
Subs: Pollitt, Melchiot, Gohouri, Thomas, McCarthy, Gomez and Scotland.
He said in his interview his best position is behind the striker but he can play up top and on the wing. He will offer pace, finishing and versitility to our forward line which is a huge bonus and exactly what we needed.
I also believe the other new lad (Moreno Martins) is no mug and will be in contention to start so, to get the 2 new lads in the team I think we would have to line up with a forward line as follows:
N’Zogbia………..Moses……….Rodallega
………………….Moreno……………………That would leave Scotland, Scharner, McCarthy, Gomez and Sinclair fighting for a 1st team place and offers cover in central midfield with Thomas, Diame and Watson.
I like Figueroa, he’s a hard, strong left back with a lot of strengths BUT in the last 2 games he has been at fault for 2 winning goals.
1st the Kalinic winner at Ewood then the Cahill goal yesterday. Figueroa was suppose to be marking both these players and failed to do so which resulted in goals and defeats. He fell over his own man yesterday when trying to track Cahill and the Kalinic goal was just poor defending.
A lot of the time the header will be off target or saved BUT on these 2 occasions in the last 2 games they have resulted in goals.
Rodallega vs Scotland
Both missed 2 sitters yesterday, Scotland held the ball up well and had a few decent runs, Hugo gave the ball away constantly and never looked in the game, Hugo wasted 2 free-kicks after having a 2nd bite of the cherry SO, why does everybody get on Scotland’s back? Does the sun shine out of Hugo’s arse because he was sh*t on wednesday night at Blackburn, missed a pen and 2 sitters at Wolves and looked awful yesterday against Everton.
I am not defending Scotland, he’s been dissapointing and should have scored yesterday but I think it’s unfair that his strike partner is just as bad as him (or has been recently) yet nothing much is said.
I’ve just spoke to his brother’s best mates cousin who told me Ruben reads this board and to tell everyone to stop jumping to conclusions.
He’d be a quality signing, and I can’t believe were not going for players like him considering there’s only a few days of the window left and we still haven’t signed any attacking players. Never mind any of some quality. How do you know we’re not going for him?
For all we know Roberto + staff may be trying to sign him + many other players.
We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors, we just guess and presume.
I will just wait in anticipation to see who does come in before the end of the window and I like many other who watched that sh*t last night will know we need more than a striker.
No, we only got 1500 last year as we were only allocated the top tier AND even worse, we didn’t fill it (only 3/4’s).
It was 3,000 when we had the full bottom tier.
I am confident we will have 1500 there tomorrow.
I completely agree with you faz, a very long but clear post and what you must understand is I posted the message as a wind up with vat due to previous posts stating he was an evertonian. I work with scousers (1 real mouthy 1) and a lot of them are well known for being.
However, your take on ‘hooliganism’ is exactly the same as mine. My dad and his mates used to travel all over in a tranny van, all pi**ed up including the driver and they were always involved in trouble, that was back then and now, it’s a totally different game. He never classed himself as being a hooligan in his day but the lads around him where and he used to mix with them.
I agree with your point about fans coming now we’re in the prem, i’m not one of them but I don’t mind it. I know ex man utd, liverpool, etc armchair fans who now watch wigan and although alot still class utd/liverpool as their no.1 team they are paying to watch our club and that’s a bonus. Some have however switched and now class wigan as their no.1 team. I believe that if you’re born in wigan you support wigan no matter how good they are or who they’re playing week in week out.
I have mates who support Utd (4 of them) and 1 of them doesn’t know anything about Utd. The other 3 class themselves as Utd supporters even though they’ve only been to Old Trafford as many times as I have. It’s annoying BUT they’ve been brought up by their dads/grandads who maybe followed rubgy and classed latics as a sh*t club and therefore went for a team that won everything. One of my mates recently had a little lad and he owns 4 utd tops at 4 months!
