Harmless fun?
no
It was no Sheff Wednesday vs Palace or York vs Luton was it?Celebration?
possibly but it still doesnt justify doing what you did
We scored a last minute goal, it was our last home game this season and we are in the premier league for the 6th consecutive season. As i’ve said I can’t speak for everyone who entered the pitch but I did it for these 3 reasons.Idiotic chavs?
you said it
I am no chav but there may well have been a number of chavs on the pitch at the same time as me.
When you said grown man I was thinking more along the lines of a guy say your age rather than a young adult which is what I would class myself as.
I am no Peter Pan!
Out of interest, have you ever entered the field of play either in celebration of a goal or at the end of a game (or both)?
I can’t speak for all the other guys/kids who entered the pitch but I did it in celebration of the goal. Yes it’s illegal but if I gave one about that I wouldn’t have gone on. I drive at 40mph in 30mph zones, I have used a mobile phone when driving (most mornings), I have entered the pitch on multiple occasions celebrating Wigan goals, etc. I don’t live by the law!
I love the debate regarding the pitch invasion.
Harmless fun?
Celebration?
Idiotic chavs? It’s all been blown up if you ask me. If you went on the pitch why did you do it? Celebrating the goal? Celebrating premier league survival? Or because you’re a chav?
Why do the guys who didn’t go on the pitch making a big deal of it? It doesn’t affect you in any way? Or does it?
A young kid came running back into the east stand with the biggest smile i’ve ever seen on his face because Ben Watson gave him his shirt. His dad was on the pitch with him. Does that make his dad a chav who was acting like a d!ck?
I see what’s going on here………..
Now I know why a lot of you call Mr Whelan ‘Big Dave’ ;)
Griff, I am not a grown man as you put it (early 20’s myself) and yes, I understand it is illegal but I was merely celebrating our last minute goal. Simple as that.
I didn’t run across to the west stand, in fact I hardly even got onto the playing area but I caused no trouble/harm.
Also, there were 2 lines of stewards in front of the Hull fans, one of which was ensuring they didn’t enter the field and the other was blocking any Wigan fans on the pitch getting near the Hull fans which, in my opinion is good stewarding as they knew Wigan fans would go on at the end of the game.
If that goal hadn’t have gone in then the fans would have gone on the pitch at the end of the game. The excitement of the goal is what caused the invasion but I keep hearing invading during the game???? There had just been a goal, play had stopped, it’s not like hundreds of Wigan fans just decided to invade the pitch mid-game.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to start a thread about the pitch invasion after the goal.
What is the big deal with this? Someone please tell me!
Everyone who ran onto the pitch (including myself) was merely celebrating the goal/survival with it being our last home game + there were a lot of adults (including myself) some of whom have been watching Latics for years (including myself again). The only problem was we scored in the last minute when everybody was waiting to go on at the end.
One guy said to me on the pitch it’s not even full time and the guy behind me asked where Phil Dowd (I was also looking for that clown!) was so not everyone on the pitch was a kid. I think everyone was a little confused as to what was going on but I ran on in celebration of the goal as I always did at away games when in the lower leagues. I don’t see the harm/fault to be fair, the police and stewards didn’t hold anybody back until the pitch started filling up with fans. Nobody started any trouble with the Hull fans and/or players like in other matches but I do accept if the Hull fans had started to get on the pitch trouble may have errupted but that’s why the stewards lined up infront of their fans, to stop any coming together.
I have had a season ticket at Wigan for around 14 years now, should I be banned? The guy’s I saw on the pitch are both 30+ and have been watching Latics for donkeys years, should they be banned?
Agree with most of what’s been said, but their first goal wasn’t offside, one of their players ran back from an offside position when the cross came over, but it wasnt the goalscorer.I know the lad who scored wasn’t offside BUT the linesman had his flag up + all our defence looked up and spotted the flag was up. If you watch the highlights, you can see Caldwell’s reaction (which nearly earned him a booking) saying the defence had stopped because they saw the flag. They had 2 players offside and the cross was aimed to one of them + the other was stood right next to the keeper so were they or weren’t they interfeirring with play???!!! Have you seen their 2nd goal? He was a mile offside!
agree with all of that mate but these harmless celebrations has all been taken out of context by the club and are dishing out 3 year bans for home games :|I doubt that will happen pal but if it does then the pitch invasion can be placed in the LOWS! :)
I’m glad Inter went through. I like Barca and their style of play (something I think we do the same as them but without the talent) BUT they are cheats and deserved to be dumped out after that pathetic dive which got Motta sent off. The 1st booking he received was harsh after just 8 or 9 mins (his 1st foul of the game and it wasn’t cynical) but that straight red was laughable and could have quite easily cost them the game + a place in the champions league final.
The officials were awful, time after time they gave throws the wrong way, free-kicks for nothing (especially that header messi won against chivu, what was the crack with that????),corners when they should have been goal kicks and visa versa.
P.S. Inter deserved it for their solid defending, Cambiasso is the best central midfielder in the world at present and Mourinho sprint of triumph at the end was superb!
Are you crazy? Dindane and Van den Borre are shocking to say the least, they just look good in a poor Pompey side (awaits 4-0 and Dindane scored a hattrick response)
Fair play Jamie O’Hara is good, but he’s a centre mid, I don’t think he’d be a good replacement for N’Zogbia if it’s a winger we’re looking for.
I think we need a new…
Back up keeper
Right Back
Centre Back
Right mid (or left depending on whether Charlie stays and where Bobby plans on playing Moses next year)
Attacking centre mid, or the “Gomez role”
Strikeri wouldnt say either of them 2 are shocking, Dindane is far better than scotland/ moreno so hes better than our strikers… and i thought van den borre had a good game against wigan hes belgiums no1 right back. He played very well considering he was playing allong side a bunch of reserves…. Im sure bobby will do us proud with regards too signings we’l have a young talented squad :D
Sorry but apart from the odd mistake Bob’s signings have been shoite Scotland who in goals on Sunday Bob said he would kick on next season, Gomez, Ayma, Stoichovic need I go on.
So why are you so confident????
Diame, McCarthy, Moses?????What you have chose to do is name the few that haven’t quite kicked on as soon as we would have all liked. I’m sure Martinez himself would also admit this but he has worked with Scotland and Gomez previously so hopefully he’ll know and believe in their ability. What he has signed is what is available to our club with our budget.
You have failed to mention how good N’Zogbia has been since Martinez was appointed manager. Under Bruce last year he didn’t look worth the £6m we paid but this season he looks worth at least double that.
Look at Fergie at Utd, he’s signed some real s**t (Taibi, Veron, Forlan, Anderson, Berbatov, etc – I could go on forever) but nobody questions him, Bruce signed Marlon King, Dan De Ridder, Oliver Kapo, etc – again I could go on. All managers make poor signings from time to time, Martinez bought Scotland and Gomez because they were fantastic for Swansea and he’s worked with them both before. Fergie bought Veron and Berbatov, etc as they were fantastic for their previous clubs. My point is all managers will sign cr@p every now and again, Stojkovic is on loan as a back-up, Martinez has explained Scotland and Gomez were rushed into the side too quickly due to other players not being up to it (i.e. de ridder, kapo, etc). He has been left with some real rubbish, he tried with Koumas but failed, he’s been given chance after chance but just isn’t good enough. On the whole, we’ve achieved what we needed to this season with a rookie manager still learning the premier league who has transformed a hoof (under Bruce) team into a passing side with some good and bad (sometimes very poor) results along the way.
I’ve sent in 6 or 7 questions, one of which basically questions the wisdom of signing Marcelo Moreno, considering he has not scored, and really hasn’t looked like doing. Whilst trying not to be patronizing or condescending, I have said that if it was me that was making the decision, I would probably be looking elsewhere, and probably more towards a fast and tricky type of striker, probably along the lines of Henri Camara, when he was at his best. (Minus the attitude)
It’s a worrying thought that if we do sell N’Zogbia, we will be losing our last bit of attacking ‘skill’, I.E. the ability to run at a man and beat them. That’s why I think we need someone like that upfront, rather than a tall, target-man type of player. With our style of play, do we need a big target man? I don’t think so. Of course, we have to find that type of player first. But for me, no, Moreno wouldn’t be an option. Fair enough if he’d banged a few goals in, but he hasn’t. And they are talking about 6 million. No way. Never in the memory of man, is he worth that. I’d be hard pressed paying 3 million, to be honest.
Why do we always sign strikers who do not score goals? “Ah, but he offers us much more”. That is nonsense. A striker is there to score goals. Fact. If not, then it must be different game than it used to be. And it isn’t.
Emile Heskey has never been a big goalscorer yet he has had a very succesful career with how many England caps? He was a hero at Wigan, led the line for Liverpool for however many seasons and even at 31 (ish) is playing for a top 6 side in the premier league (not week in week out but that’s not the point).
Moreno is only 22 years old, he’s been at our club for 3 months and has been in and out of the side. If Roberto signs him in the summer it’s because he believes he is the right type of player for our team and I trust his judgement more than I trust yours!
I am a Martinez fan, probably one of his biggest.
This guy is a geniune wigan fan, a supporter who wants the club to succeed. He is a legend, a true gentleman! He’s also already succeeded at Wigan both as a player and a manager. He said he wanted us to stay up this season and we have, he has managed to win 3 games against the ‘big 4’ and also changed the way we play football from a long ball hoof contest to a steady, balanced, attacking style starting from the back. It hasn’t always worked BUT as someone pointed out when it has worked we have looked very good.
With regards to some of Bobby’s signings, I think the likes of Caldwell and Gomez will improve next season. Caldwell has only been here a few months and I think Gomez just needs time (he is still young). I have been one of many who thinks Gomez isn’t up to it BUT i’m hoping with a bit of work in the summer he will be a good squad player next season.
McCarthy and Moses are both 19 years old, both have shown very good potential and have settled in pretty quickly.
Hopefully, we can keep Hugo and Zog as they’ve been arguably our 2 best players for the best part of the season. Under Bruce Zog wasn’t over impressive (apart from the goal at Sunderland) but under Martinez he really has shone and shown everybody just how good he is.
Diame and Thomas have formed a pretty decent partnership in midfield, Thomas being the hard tackling ball winning defensive midfielder and Diame being the more agile attacking type midfielder who has a very good eye for passing. Diame will go from strength to strength and although Thomas hasn’t been outstanding I think he will also look better next season now he’s had a year in the premier league.
Regarding transfers, it looks as though Mario and Scharner will be leaving (out of contract). We have a few players (fringe players) who are currently featuring for the reserves/out on loan that will probably be sold/released + the likes of Koumas who really needs to be sold a.s.a.p. I also think a few players we’ve been linked with in past transfer windows (under Martinez) will be signed in the summer, the likes of Marco Ruben, Leon Britton, Aritz Aduriz, Jose Callejon, Marco Ramos, Gary Hooper, James McArthur, Cristian Riveros, Albert Crusat, etc. All these players have been linked with the club, most will more than likely be rumours but some will be genuine targets. Gary Hooper has scored a pan full for Scunthorpe this season, he’s a young striker who would be a huge gamble but we are Wigan Athletic and we have to take a chance on players like this.
Roberto will know who he wants/needs and I have faith in him bringing in the right players.
Current rumours suggest he’s considering signing Sinclair and Moreno on permanent deals if the price is right. He knows how they’ve been performing in training and what sort of potential they’re showing so, I believe if they are good enough for him, they’re good enough for us (both only early 20’s also).
Prediction for next season: Chelsea to win back to back titles, City to break the top 3, Wigan to finish mid-table and Wolves, West Brom and play off side to be relegated.
I had to laugh when I read that post. It’s the same old big club syndrome these fans at the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, etc have. Is there no cure for it? There are thousands suffering from the same disease!
So, we sold over 600 tickets by Wednesday according to the ticket office when I rang BUT we only took 200. I heard we had around a thousand there yesterday, which for me isn’t a bad following.
They brought 5000 to Wigan? When? Was he talking about the time Brian Deane equalised in the last minute? That’s the last time they brought 5000 to Wigan!
I agree with Neil and Amigo.
Gohouri was at fault for Arsenal’s second goal and when you best XI is available you go with it, all the top managers would do the same. Caldwell has been good for us since he arrived, bad game at Bolton and for me, another bad game yesterday BUT Parker still had a lot to do from that distance, 9 times out of 10 they will fly wide or over but on this occasion it was a fantastic strike so, you have to give credit to the goalscorer although I agree, it could have been prevented.
Martinez is the man to take us forward, people who can’t see what he’s trying to do at Wigan are blind. We are playing attractive football and in time, with a bit of patience we’ll see the benefits.
We weren’t bad yesterday, they scored 3 goals out of the 4 or 5 chances they had all game. We scored 2, hit the bar and missed a couple of chances we could have taken. It was one of those games but, at the end of the day losing at West Ham yesterday secured our survival with 2 games left, not bad for a rookie manager in his first ever premiership season with a club who is always tipped to go down.
I had my top half sleeve finished on Tuesday and it was the underneath of my upper arm (armpit region). Now that’s pain! I’ve had one all down outside of my leg, top half sleeve and other arm, not all that painful but I would say more so on fleshy (tender) skin. Well worth it though! It affects some people more than others, my mate said he didn’t feel much pain on underside of his arm but his leg killed him so, it’s really just down to the person getting it done.
