Whelan balanced the books masterfully. Without the sale of such players survival wouldn’t have been possible as there was no obvious increase in revenue (unless some believe Champions league football was on the horizon). Others seem to forget that the majority of those that left actually wanted to go. The likes of Valencia and Palacios would hardly have stayed on our salaries.
Think some folk need a reality check. The truth is that due to Whelans shrewd management we got to a place we had no right to be given our size. No club that averages gates of 15k home fans managed to stay in the Premier league for as long as we did let alone finish up with silverware so to blame Whelan is ridiculous. So the last 18 months haven’t been great (Europa league, Wembley and play off semi apart) and he may have selected cluelesss Managers but as fans of our club we have had to put up with just over 4 months of poor performances. Boo fuckin hoo! We are all wiser after the event. Loads on here didn’t want McLaren. He was seen as a joke in this country after his time with England and its also worth saying lots wanted Mackay. He hasn’t been able to halt our alarming slide with a change in fortune yet hasn’t been able to sign a player yet so can only truly be judged when he has that chance surely. We all know he has inherited a team with no decent strikers and for all the Deport/Riera fantasists most have seen with their own eyes that they aren’t the answer no more than Fortune. ‘You can see by his eyes he doesn’t care’. Like Bruce did when he walked out on us twice? Like Bob did when he walked out on us post relegation? Take the good times with the bad times. We are three points from safety with around half a season to go. We are 5-2 to go down not the 1-8s some on here seem to make us.
To be fair he looked pretty awful all game. Looks like he’s put a bit of timber on since he left us.
As Mackay confirmed Riera is off to deportivo looks like you lads will have to bring Fortune in!
Scott Carson
Emmerson Boyce
Ivan Ramis
Stephen Crainey
James Perch
James McArthur
Jean Beausejour
Josh McEachran
Jordi Gomez
Callum McManaman
Marc-Antoine FortuneSo are we saying Gomez and MacArthur added so much as this was the starting 11. Maclean and McCann should be decent replacements.
Awful. Some of the fouls he didn’t give us in that game were unbelievable! Also thought Bogdan crossed his own line from a cross.
We were as bad as I’ve seen in that first half. Mackays record of a win and a draw in 8 games is worse than any run Coyle or Uwe went on in their tenure. Was looking at team that drew with arsenal last year in cup semi and can’t see how (Gomez and MacArthur apart) we are that much weaker.
So with your method presumably if a player receives an injury towards the back end of his contract the club can legally just cancel his contract! As if! Do you think when you sign a contract in a sport where injuries are rife you aren’t covered? Like when Watson broke his leg last year we could just cancel his contract! Behave.
Haha. Well you’ve obviously never worked in professional sport! As if you can cancel a contract due to injury!
Seems like the righteous one has been caught drink driving again.
To compare him with Ellington (a man who managed to average almost a goal every two games for us) is ridiculous. Though I would agree he has limited opportunities on the chances he has had he has looked slow with a poor touch and to most watching has looked out of his depth. Rosler and Mackay also must have watched him day in day out and decided he isn’t the answer. Surely of he was setting the world alight he would be playing in front of Fortune!
Not sure about Redfearns comments. Can’t think of one clear chance they created. Few decent digs from Long range and lots of crosses flashing across but they never looked that dangerous to me. Fortune, Maclean and Espinoza should all have finished the game off at 1-0 with 1 on 1s with the keeper. Ramis solid today alongside good performances from Watson, McCann and Maclean. Bring on Wesnesday!
Not the Delort I’ve seen. Looks out of his depth. It’s amazing that most of that team today beat City away less than a year ago. Hard to blame Mackay. So many are jacking it off. Let’s hope he has an idea of what we need by January as a ten point gap could be a tricky one to bridge.
