people behind me were still slagging gomez off after he’d scored his second goal….one bloke was proving his (gomez)inferiority by comparing him with iniesta and messi! What can you say to these people…?

I am thinking it would be more of a worry for the english labour party, rather than the “rich tories”. All the scottish (labour)MP’s would presumably be part of the independent scottish government and I don’t see how the labour party would win a general election without their support…… the tories have hardly any MP’s in scotland, so it wouldn’t affect their total in Westminster.

Upto half time, we were the best team- but couldn’t finish chances as usual . The sending off certainly killed us- I don’t know if it was a straight red- we were sat too far away and my eyes arn’t as keen as they were! Talking to sunderland fans after the game and they didn’t think it was anythin’ other than a foul and a yellow at worst. While I’m on about the sunderland lads- they were a good bunch- good banter before the game in the pubs, especially the harbour view in roker! Saying that, we did get spat at near the ground by some little shit sat on a balcony, luckily his aim was as keen as our forwards though.
Back to the game and we should have got something from this game- we didn’t- howard webb had a terrible game but it wasn’t all his fault, because we had chances and missed them while they took their chance.

I won’t be going tonight, I go to all the home matches, but I only go to one or two away games per season, because I can’t afford to go to any more. That said, I will be going on saturday, along with my two sons- we went to sunderland a couple of seasons ago and had a good craic. The sunderland fans were a really good bunch- apart from when we got talking to a bunch of them after the game in town and ended up with them, back in their local (we were pissed of course)… but not so pissed that we didn’t notice that the place seemed to be a shrine to 1973, bob stokoe et al, which, since we all still had latics shirts on, didn’t go down too brilliantly! I have never necked a pint as quick in my life! But they did leave us alone, I think they couldn’t decide if we were hard as nails or just plain stupid for coming into their local! Needless to say, we probably might give that place a swerve on saturday.

Of course It’s not yet vital that we win this game.. but, it is an important one to win,to ensure we don’t embark on another losing streak like last year. As it happens, I think the Latics will be victorious on saturday. (saying that, I’m as bad as Lawro when it comes to predictions!)
As for next week, I will be going to the sunderland game with my two lads- staying in a cheap B&B in Roker and drinking far too much Mackem beer before and after the game!

we are the smallest team in the premier league- it’s always going to be a struggle for us, unfortunately, and the players we sign are going to be the ones who are, by and large , loans, youngsters or not really wanted by the rest of the premier league. therefore, they are going to take time to settle in- hence not playing them straight away.
We will be ok this season I reckon, but I’d rather have this perennial struggle than to be like portsmouth, leeds or birmingham, who have a brief taste of success then end up relegated and skint.

I havn’t bought one for years-used to get one every match, without fail. But now I don’t think there’s much worth reading, it seems to be pretty much the same every week ….glossy pictures and bland articles.

sorry-getting back to the thread, I think wright-phillips would have been good for us, but to be honest, in a choice between london and wigan for a young bloke, ?? good luck to him. ( by the way, I know he’s pushing 30, but that is mighty young to me!) as for the other two mentioned- bellamy and barton- they are both good players, but they would wreck whatever team spirit we have at latics-they are total liabilities. I reckon we are doing ok with who we are bringing in-honest lads with the right attitude- we will be fine this season.

I thought the mon would’ve been spot on for us- (had many rows with my eldest-he didn’t rate him).Plus, I was a bit biased ‘cos me granddad was from wales; anyhow, it seems he was right and I was wrong- I always had the impression that koumas could do it if he wanted- he just couldn’t be ars8d! and that’s why he’s gone.

I have tried over the years to enjoy what the warriors do, after all, it is stupid that supporters in such a small town can’t get on with each other. But, I can’t, the reason for me being the patronising attitude displayed by a large proportion of the rugby fans- it occurs in the workplace, the pub, wherever, and usually involves smug expressions and snide comments when it’s discovered that I am a wigan athletic fan- this wouldn’t be so bad but then I usually find out that these loyal  wiganers are also man yuuu or liverpool followers!!
Of course, this is a bit of a stereotype, not all warriors fans hate the ‘tics or indeed support other football teams, and indeed, many latics followers are far from blameless, but it’s the reason I have unfortunately.
