Déjà vu, that’s what that is! How many more strikers can we ruin before some of our fans stop coming back with feeble excuses as to their ineffectiveness for us? How many is that now that have come here with a reputation only to have their confidence stripped and become a shadow of their former self? Then leave and fairly quickly get back their mojo and start banging em in again! It’s no coincidence!

How can you say we ruined him? If I remember right you wasted no time in telling us that your nobend supporting mates couldn’t wait to tell you how crap he was.
You’ve got the wrong player man! Also my ‘Ruined’ comment was a general remark aimed at the strikers we have had over the last 2 seasons!

Proud to be Lancashire, I bet there are many Wiganers who still regard themselves as from Lancashire! As for Horc, I must admit I was quite shocked at his outburst,a side to him I have never seen! As for the water, there is fuck all wrong with it!

Thing is with Bob though we used to lose a lot too. Set out for a draw and in the end still lost. With Paul Jewell we played some of the best football during a most memorable period in Latics history.

Paul Jewell will forever be remembered and revered for getting us to the Premier League and that first memorable season (half a season really) when we slugged it out with the big boys.
Well not really the big boys because he is on record as saying he wrote off the games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd and set up for damage limitation. That’s eight games and 24 points which he discarded.
At least Martinez had a go. We got stuffed a few times but also saw some of the most memorable games ever witnessed by Latics fans culminating in that unbelievable FA Cup win.

Boring it may have been but at least he tried. When he got it right they were never to be forgotten games. Jewell never even tried.
Well Jewell got us a top half league table finish and all that without even trying! Not bad in my books. There is no doubt that the style Martinez tried to play is more entertaining but only when implemented properly, we didn’t have the class of players to do such a thing and so the majority of the time it was dull, very dull! Martinez was too stubborn for his own good and was bereft of a contingency plan when needed! I am quite looking forward to Everton’s game with City to see if he can continue to be the proverbial thorn in their side. City have come out of their corner fighting this season and Everton seemed fairly effective against Southampton and so it should be a good game but I digress!
The lower you drop in football the more you need to go back to basics and that in my humble view is what GC should be doing this season. Two solid centre halfs with a no nonsense attitude, a midfield willing to work it’s bollocks off and a couple of lads up top who are nothing short of telepathic, both with an eye for goal! Playing it out from the back with our current personnel is a recipe for disaster!

You’re right mate but it does my head in as much as middle lane strollers on the M6

There is no benefit, as it means more of their men in our box and no outlet if cleared. Perhaps it fits in with the philosophy of not wanting to hoof a clearance but as we’ve mostly agreed on, messing about at the back is not our best option.

We seem to be employing a team of midgets, compared to other teams in this division as well, which doesn’t help on corners so maybe that’s in our thinking of getting everyone back. I was expecting Bryan Griffiths to come on as sub on Sunday.

Something we commented on at the game last weekend.

There are at least half a dozen of the squad who look alike: ie. fair-haired, 12 year old dwarves.

Does that mean a return to the darkside then for you fil. BTW are you still on this “im going to give it 10 games” malarkey before deciding whether you stay or go.

Well I have sort of had that decision forced on me as it turns out and will miss the first 6 home games anyway! Any midweek games will also be out due to the other half working nights and so if my maths are correct then a pay per match is more viable than a season ticket! Have I missed anything good so far?

PS- Got a few away days pencilled in! ;)

And folk on here like to quote our previous managers as good back up for not giving the likes of these 2 a good chance in the team.

Quality were desperate for, gone and succeeding elsewhere. We’ve been clueless at this club for some time now when it comes to giving the right players a chance.

It’s a case of where would we be now if everyone listened to me

I do reckon you would have signed a defender when we needed them.such as a Certain John Stones,A bargin for 3 mil. When Everton may draw very good money for him.If only we had payed the asking price of Barnsley. ;)
Martinez knew where he himself would be come the end of that season and so with hindsight it is no surprise that Stones swerved coming to Wigan and went to Everton! He didn’t play at all until the following August when Martinez was manager, you do the math! :)
Or maybe Stones saw Everton as a bigger club, offering higher wages, and with less chance of being relegated….
Well that is obvious Jonny but Everton had no prior interest in Stones with no links between the two of them whatsoever up until that ‘Eleventh Hour’ swerve? Just seems a little odd to me, especially with the fact that Everton didn’t use him until RM got there, bar 3 appearances on the bench that didn’t result in him making his debut! I believe Martinez was something to do with Stones going to Everton!
No offence but none of us know whether Everton had any prior interest in Stones prior to the 31st January. Unless you know the inner workings of Everton’s scouting system intimately, its just (if not more so) likely that he’d been on the radar of numerous “bigger clubs” than Latics & when Latics had their bid accepted it forced the hand of Everton who may have been looking at making a move for him over the summer (or later)
It seems highly unlikely to me that Bobby went to the trouble of persuading Whelan/Jackson to part with upwards of £3mill for a lower league player without the intention of actually signing him but just so that he could speak with him & tell him to sign for Everton coz that’s where he’d be come the start of the next season anyway.
If Bobby knew he was going to Everton & wanted Everton to sign him as opposed to Latics, then the whole involvement of Latics was a completely unnecessary smokescreen
A smokescreen indeed! ;)

It’s a shame Bolton wanted to off-load the dynamic duo so quickly or we could have done the long term loan thing to check out those two we brought in from Horwich. Thanks Tyldesley for clarifying why we loaned the lads from Everton.

If you’re including Davies in that, most Bolton fans I’ve spoken to rate him.
Jonny, ask any North End fans you know what they think of him! I have yet to come across any with positive vibes for the lad, in fact quite a few have actually taken the piss! :)
I actually only know 1 Preston Fan! Seriously.

To be fair though, he only played half a season at Preston – and that was when he was recovering from injury.

Every Bolton fan I’ve spoken to says if kept fit, he’s a decent player. But the problem is keeping him fit.
He is a known crock and so the question is why did he get a 3 year deal? If I am wrong with the contract details I hold my hand up but I seem to remember 3 years being mentioned! I know contracts aint worth the paper they are written on but if true then that is mad!

Shite again. Hardly any goal threat, dodgy defence, hesistant keeper, 33-1 odds on relegation looks a great price.

As low as 2-1 for promotion? The bookies seem to have no fucking idea! Bet Victor still offering 33’s for the drop if you fancy a flutter!
Can I explain how this betting malarkey works Fil?

The bookies odds are based on 46 games, not 2, you also never see skint bookies, so yes they do have fekin clue.
Let’s reserve any serious judgement for when the season is in full swing and GC knows his best starting 11.
Today’s match saw more partnerships building, there was some great link up play in all parts of the pitch. Chances were created, but it just isn’t happening yet. Once GC stops this suicidal at times, short ball from the keeper and gets it punted up field,we will start to win games I’m sure. It’s better to be challenging for seconds in the opposition half of the field, than being closed down in our own third.
Today I was impressed with Jacobs[again], James [best game so far], Kenny, Junior, Power, Perkins and Grigg. The negatives were O’Connell [when is he going to come off his line to collect a corner / cross], Morgan and Barnett.

Far too early to right um off and far to early to think they will challenge for promotion.
It worked for Bobby last time he was in that division!
Not many sides have achieved said feat though! I am quite willing to bet that the players that we have at the moment will fail miserably if this style of play is to be continued! I can see another forum split down the middle coming! :)
