If he doesn’t sign then there will just be a parting of the waves
Followed by a mass Exodus of players and fans alike
Totally different scenario though. American footy has no promotion or relegation so a terrible season means sod all, and the draft system means that if you are the worst team you pretty much get first choice of all the best college players the following season. So all you really have to worry about is someone moving the franchise to another city.
We could certainly learn from the sport though about how to nurture homegrown talent and simultaneously create true competition.
People who post non-footy related stuff on the football forum.
Gerrit moved admin:( sorry grrrr
;)
Hughes has not really set the management world alight has he?
Folk on here were talking about Jol a few years back before Bruce came back…but even he’s struggling with Fulham (QPR game aside).
Souness anyone? ;)
That may be true Roberto, but unfortunately we can’t take corners for toffee.
I think you are right about Whelan, but surely it must get to the point soon that even Whelan must see the writings on the wall. Fans are going to vote with their feet. It certainly wont be the first time Whelan has backtracked on something he”s said! Maybe Martinez will resign! At any rate we are in free fall. If any other man was in charge, he would have gone by now.Hmm – not quite true.
Hutchings was sacked after 7 straight defeats I think – though he was always going to be the night watchman while Whelan lined up Bruce…Hutchings just made the conversation easy for Whelan.
06-07 Jewellio went 9 defeats on the trot and he didn’t get the sack.
Hi,
His signings are questionable, tactics and team selection inept and he does not have the calibre of players to play the style of football we play.We do not have the calibre of players to play his style of football because we can’t and never will, under Whelan, afford the sorts of players in this league who can play his style of football.
Maybe it’s Whelan that has to move on?
But the chuffin reality is, we got nothing, :roll:True, but after 6 games of getting nothing, at least the performance was encouraging and all that separated us from a flying, unbeaten Newcastle side was a late, special goal.
How can folk look that performance and not feel even slightly lifted after the limp performances recently, even if we are bottom?
For the first time in yonks I didn’t cringe every time one of our back line got the ball cos all they did was clear the danger. As a result, not having to think about playing the ball meant they could concentrate more on actually defending.
I’m not fussed we didn’t score. The main objective for today was to tighten up at the back and not concede, and we almost pulled it off.
But the by-product was the confidence to attack…the midfield wasn’t spending their time mopping up defensive errors and the long balls were giving the forwards something to chase. Also glad Turncoat Taylor still hasn’t put one past us.
What disappointed me wasn’t the result, so much as the disrespect shown by Bob and the team to us fans that bothered to go and who were treated to a woeful, woeful performance.
I was so excited about attending our only London game this side of Xmas and was pretty p1ssed off at the end by how poor it was.
I don’t for one minute believe that a bunch of fringe and brand new players can’t play as a team. What they might lack in understanding and link up and the ability to stick to tactics can be overcome by pure passion and desire. None of them gave a 5h1t though (Macmanaman and Watson being the exceptions).
We should care about every competitive game we play in. Even if our priorities lie elsewhere, we should use the cups to try out the fringe players and other tactics – Tuesday night has just lost us 5 or 6 more games to experiment and keep players sharp.
Each of Aguero’s goals were pinpoint finishing – very few other strikers would have scored all 3
It was only 1-0 at halftime time
We didn’t capitulate unlike our nearby rivals against “their local rivals” (plus we were away from home)
Tevez didn’t score against us.
Casserole dish got a run out.
joint shortest player ever to play in the PL5’5″ – 165cm – Aaron Lennon (Tottenham)
5’5½” – 166cm – Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City)If he’s half as good as either if them that’ll do me.
Clean sheet away from home in a game with a lot of significance and baggage for Swansea.
3 unbelievably close chances (2x woodwork and the pen).
2nd game unbeaten despite not performing anywhere near our best.
For once it wasn’t our fans that were booing Gomez ;)
Don’t know what Watson was thinking tho with his pen – aiming for the same spot twice in as many weeks is the LAST place he should have thought of.
Can’t see them selling much of the second kit, but am loving the 3rd and see those going like hot cakes. Definitely getting one of those…never owned one of our 3rd kits before.
Must admit that when I first saw pictures of the new kit I was hugely disappointed and also quite angry.
Such a dull design and why have we lost the iconic stripes? Why does the club feel it has to frig with our identity so much? The strip is our brand – how many other clubs do you see messing with the core of their strip?
Feel free to tweak the trim, the shorts, the socks – but to move from block blue to stripes and back again is just ridiculous. Do you see Newcastle, Sunderland, Stoke, etc etc doing the same.Even last year’s strip, whilst pushing it, kept the idea of the white stripe. I’d even have accepted a diagonal stripe al la Peru in Espana 82 over block blue.
That said, once I saw it in action I was slightly less incensed – it does look well made and the white shorts with the continuing blue stripe did improve the look…for the first time ever I might actually buy the shorts and not the top! :o
Won on penaltiesWonderful story – so pleased for what is now my local club and, by default, my baby son’s club as he was born in Kingston.
Bring on MK Dons in one of the cups – that’s a game I will defo want to be at! -
