LOL. I meant purely for his untimely remarks in the Telegraph…as it’ll be a long time before any one of us gets another opportunity to give him any feedback he’s guaranteed to hear!!

I’m no fan of Whelan’s, but if he’s planning to sell then:

        – why exactly would he prepare for life in the Championship run his only true nest egg into the ground…cos the club would be worth less
        – why would he spend £2m on Martinez when he could have used it to line his coffers
        – why would he let Cattermole go on the cheap
        – why would he give the naming rights of the stadium to himself instead of getting cash in for that too

Despite his faults, he is a shrewd businessman, and despite all his crap and our worries before we are still here 5 years later.

That said, why would he spend money on and choose an allebit yet unproven manager as Bruce’s successor.
And dont tell me thatit’s all down to Whelan is telling Martinez to buy cheap from the Championship. If that was the why would we be spending £4m on Moses (yes £4m is still a lot of money).

What I don’t get is why is Martinez not looking at any proven premiership players to give us that experience and leadership we are currently missing (tip of the hat to notapatchon’s log)?
Two of Jewell’s master stokes when our defence and team needed experience and leadership were getting Harry back days before we began life in the Prem and in season 2 signing Unsworth . That’s what Bob needs to give us now. If Scharner had any nous he’d be putting himself forward for both.

At least, with just a week of the window to go, we’re finally being linked with a striker and not yet another midfielder. Hope, though, that Costly isn’t the only option and that Bob has got a gem hidden up his sleeve…

            Good call hgl.

Look at it this way – there’s not going to be a better wake-up call or opportunity to learn for Bob and the new team than by matching and by getting trounced by what is still the best team in the league (yes, even better than the “resurgent” Arsenal).

Our history against Utd shows that it always goign to be our bogey team (you can bet your house it’ll either be a drubbing or us losing after taking the lead). There was also too many other bigger factors to think that we’d get anything from today (Rooney on 99, Owen on a duck, Berbatov on a drought, Valencia’s return, Utd’s loss to Burnley).

Personally, I’d rather get one of our two obligatory drubbings of the season out of the way early and now crack on – remember, we trounced Hull 5-0 at their place at the same point last season and they then went on a brilliant run.

            Couple of gripees though:

            – just seen the highlights on MOTD and am disgusted by the dirty tactics of some of Utd’s players (Scholes, Evra, Vidic)

            – secondly, Bob said today that losing 1-0 or 5-0 didn’t make a difference to him…hmm, it does in this league mate, as we found to our credit when we survived by just the 1 goal 3 seasons ago…

I thought they drove cos they were too fat to walk.

With ref to a previous post though, as much as I don’t agree with any of our stands or anything else at the DW having links to the chubsters, it’s not really the same as naming a stand at eastlands the eric cantona stand is it? That’d be like naming a stand at the DW after son no mark nobloter like nat lofthouse, which in my eyes is would be way worse.

Kirky is world class at reactionary saves, but he struggles when he has to think about stuff (a bit like Titus used to be), doesn’t stand up to shots (how many goals have gone in when he’s leant backwards and it’s sailed over where his head would’ve been) and is made of glass.

At least when Brucie was here he got Kirky to start doing quick throws and kicks, unlike before when he’d pretend to and then hug the ball for 30s, so I’m pleased he’s still doing that.

Pollitt for me woud still be my no1 choice though – tough as boots that mon. Our longest serving player aswell int he?

They did last season – Liverpool then Fulham.
