A bit like Boselli, Dicko’s not had enough lengthy chances to prove himself – but his loan spells clearly indicate there’s something there. I do hope Uwe has recalled him to capitalise on his form and bolster our strike force.
But this article and another on Vital Rotherham board suggest that the recall may be for other reasons – either to sell him off before he does a Bosman or possibly even to help out Brentford by weakening Rotherham’s progression!! Surely not.

No.He couldn’t…..
Could he? :)
Isn’t Ben Watson suspended for the Boxing Day game?
Merry Xmas and a HNY to you all.
Stay opinionated everyone – having become somewhat quieter since we got relegated, this board would be boring if we all agreed all the time ;)
YAMS
What? No posts on this thread for nearly 24 hours? 433 and counting Barnsley ;)
The same season, Wigan had the lowest turnover and third lowest wage bill, but Martinez still kept them up. That counts as a success.Urrrgh – strewth. What you fail to see is that is not what Bob’s measure of success was!!!!
He never said “I want to make sure this club retains its PL status under a shoestring budget.”
He never said “I want this club to win some major silverware.”
You’ve just adopted those success stories to conveniently justify him being a success. The man came and said he wanted us to stop just surviving and instead become a top 10 Prem club and see us playing in Europe. He didn’t achieve that. Even European qualification came by the most unlikeliest of routes – you can be guaranteed that he was assuming it would be via our league position. So, by Bob’s own targets he failed.
What he did do successfully – and I am hugely grateful for – is completely change the mindset of the fans, players and staff about how football should be considered and played. And you can see that in the way, to a man, we rounded on Coyle, yet immediately taken Uwe in.
We now care about the way we play, not just the results and its been instilled into the fabric of the club, at all levels. For that I applaud Bob.We’ve passed 400 posts but my target is 500!
It’s not gonna happen Dave because I am closing this mother fucker down ! :P
thank fook for that, its been done to death, he’s moved on and so should we, good luck and thank’s for the memories and all that
Give over. It’s not like we’re discussing th’ugby or pitches is it?
This thread is valid as long as the season runs…as a minimum. We’ll see a few twists and turns yet I’m sure.
You don’t have to be pro-Martinez to recognise that the posts about Bottom Four Bob are usually untrue and often bizarrely ridiculous. You don’t have to be pro-Martinez to want to correct them. It’s encouraging to find that there are so many fair-minded people.
And in return you don’t have to be anti-Martinez to recognise that some folk will never say a bad word against him and are effectively praising him for on the pitch failure.
You also don’t have to be anti-Martinez to enjoy this thread…but it helps ;)
As for powell, i assumed he was on a season long loan like lukaku at everton. Chelsea are not able to recall him until the end of the season. I thought the same principle applied with powell, in that he too cannot be recalled until the summer.
A parent club is able to put whatever conditions they want to in a loan deal no matter how long it is & in turn the club getting the player is free to accept or reject those.
Therefore if Chelsea cannot recall Lukaku it is because Chelsea agreed to a no recall clasue.
If United are able to recall Nick Powell that will be because United weren’t prepared to put a no recall clause in the loan deal & Latics were happy to accept that.
Just coz Powell & Lukaku’s deals are a season long doesn’t mean that because one parent club can’t recall their player that the other parent club can’t recall their player either
I’d been thinking the same Runcorn. I’m sure there was sthg similar to this a couple of seasond ago re: Ali where a rule was quoted that season long loans couldn’t be recalled. Or is that just between Prem teams / teams in the same division?
I am obsessed with fishingReally? Never have guessed.
Hasn’t our recent run of form and defensive lapses coincided with Ramis’s return? I’d start with Rogne.
He has left Holt at home in charge of the pie locker.Holt IS the pie locker
If you enjoy watching good football, why not sit back and enjoy it? Or are you preparing for the part of Scrooge?LOL – if I enjoyed watching good football I’d have stopped supporting Latics 25 years ago ;)
And I did in fact play Scrooge in the 6th form.
Humbug ;)
for a deal of this complexity and profile to be done and dusted in leass than 48 hours – well, I would say that was a pretty smooth negotiation.According to Whelan he knew in less than 5 min of meeting Uwe that he was the man for the job. Wasn’t it that kind of cavalier interviewing technique and judge of character that that landed us with Calamity Coyle?? Will he never learn?
I love this thread. I genuinely hope it runs and runs.
Oh shit, hold on, does that mean I inadvertantly want Bob to be successful??
And why wouldn’t you?
Oh yeah, because he’s a Judas who dumped us and wrecked our football club.
I always thought you were better than that, just shows how wrong you can be.
:)
I’ve never called him a Judas and I’ve never said he wrecked our club Griff.
But as I have stated many times on here, on various threads, he left a very recent sour taste in the mouth. That has negatively impacted my opinion of him and he just cannot go completely unscathed for the mess we are in now. If I can’t hope that Bob fails in his current new endeavours and realise what he left behind, what other outlet do I have to express my disappointment?
I fully admire what he’s achieving at Everton, but it doesn’t mean I like it. Maybe once he’s inevitably earned his manager role at Utd or Arsenal and the sour taste is once removed (and I genuinely hope he does go to those heights) then I’ll wish him well.
