Surely a pointless signing is one which was never needed in the first place rather than one who didn’t turn out to be very good.
The Beed using Taibi as an example doesn’t work – United needed a keeper & they signed one. That he turned out to be total garbage doesn’t make it pointless. At latics I’d probably go with 3 of Bobby’s loan signings – Sinclair, Van Aanholt & Hernandez.
If you’re gonna bring someone in on loan then you need to be 100% sure that you’re gonna use them whilst they’re with the club. To bring someone like that in & then hardly ever use them just smacks of going to a club, asking if they had anyone you could loan & simply taking who they offered without doing any kind of research or scouting of em.
I’m sure that’s not what happened but that’s how it looked from the outside looking inCan’t speak for the Sinclair and Hernandez situations, but I do know that Van Aanholt left a lot to be desired in the eyes of the club managemment in terms of his attitude and willingness to be a part of the squad.
He doesn’t deserve the stick he gets from some quarters every time he makes a mistake coz there are plenty of players who make more mistakes than him, nor does he deserve to be lauded as the greatest, most intelligent player we have.
In my opinion there are beter than him & there are worse than himWell, let’s have at least one who you think is more intelligent, then – I’m leaving “greatest” out of it, this is a Wigan Athletic squad we are talking about here.
I too can think of plenty who make more mistakes than him.
I think it’s time for you to take a break Griff. Aye, and I bet you will. I know you want to get to 10,000 posts but you don’t seem to want to debate anything anymore.
All you seem to want to do is slag people off and call them for daring to have a different opinion, outlook or post code to you. CCG: No shit, well spottedYou appear to be obsessed with making things up that haven’t been said and you quote things that simply aren’t there.
Where in any post has it said that two strikers and two wingers should be played? Name calling again, tut tut.
I also didn’t read anywhere that Donny said McEachran was shite. He said he did one good thing that lead to our goal, is that untrue, or did he have a blinder? Perhaps he did have a blinder and I missed it, after all we always leave after 78 minutes don’t we?? CG: No, the 78-minutes is aimed solely at Phil and Jeff. And he knows it. And he doesn’t care because he knows there’s nothing in itAs for RM, I am not obsessed with him I just don’t have the same opinion of him as you do and didn’t think the sun shone out of his arse like some did.
I know its hard for you to accept that not everyone agrees with you, but I think by now you should have realised that others also dare to differ from you on this subject. CG: Yes, I thought the statement was perfectly clear. Why the question?I know you are a wind up merchant most of the time and your aim is to try to piss off as many posters as possible, but surely you could start putting a bit more effort and thought in to your posts, CG: Well, as Our Lord, Jesus Christ once said – it is you who say it

CG: Anyway, you may well all get your wish. I have a lot on at the moment and something probably has to give. This site will probably be the thing to go. No, no – don’t try to convince me to stay ;)
But in fairness mr woods, both on their day can unlock defences like no other in our team & gomez especially tries things like no one else in the team. Sadly though when he tries something & it dosent come off, he is slated, whilst others can get away with it.
sorry to say this but the majority of wigan fans do not get gomez. Perhaps he is too intelligent for them. What also riles me is when something he tries comes off there is no praise whatsoever, yet they wait with baited breath to criticise when something dosent come off as though they actually want him to fail – sad as its one of our own players from our own team. How do you get away with saying that without being accused of being “up his arse”?!
Perfect reading of the Gomez situation, in my opinion. Particularly the bit in bold.
Let me just say this, if these are streets ahead in this league, why didn’t we get loads of offers for them. Why didn’t Martinez take Gomez as he rated him so much, oh and Beausejour was the cause of there first goal. You seriously think he is the best left back in this league?
Let me have a think about that. Not going to fight LaticinLeigh’s battles for him but there were some clues in his post.
I can see now why cockney latic is slowly dying !
Why, Tony? How do you think it can be improved? You disappearing again would be a start, but that’s not the answer I was looking for.
Oh, and I’m not disappearing either, so that’s another obvious answer ruled out.
Far too many unnecessary commas in your reply Griff! Just saying! ;)
A comma can be used to indicate a natural pause or break in the prose.
Do I tell you how to clean windows? ;)

Where in any post has it said that two strikers and two wingers should be played? CG: I think you’ll find that Donny Dipshit advocated two strikers and two wingers somewhere in another thread. Really can’t be arsed searching for it.

Nowt to do with you, don’t flatter yourself. I couldn’t care less how much or how little football you watchAs for RM, I am not obsessed with him I just don’t have the same opinion of him as you do and didn’t think the sun shone out of his arse like some did.

No wonder this site is slowly dying !It was alright until about 8 hours 55 minutes ago.
God help it now that you’re back.
Maynard was shoite but playing in our formation he would be. No strike partner and no midfielder playing off him or behind him. First half was terrible but second hslf it was an onslaught but without any quality in the box. The Chelski poser did one thing right leading to our first goal . Fortune is average at best. Again with a strike partner and a long cosistent run could improve but please Rosser lad play both our half strikers together. There wasnt much wrong with Ellington and Roberts with Liddel and Super Lee in Midfield.
Do you still have an outside toilet and send your kids down the mines, too?
We have scored 30 goals in 27 games and only four teams have scored less than us, that tells me that we need to look at a different system than half a striker up front.
I don’t know what the exact answer is, but our goals scored tally is going to hamper any play off push we might be aspiring to.
Just because Roberto Martinez brought in this type of system at Wigan it doesn’t mean a different system can’t work.
After all, he brought in the 50 passes before crossing the halfway line system, and the pass it to a colleague just for the sake of it system and that boring shite has thankfully been discarded with, so why not try two strikers up front, we certainly wouldn’t score less goals.
The lone striker approach has got nothing to do with Martinez, stop being so obsessed!!! Almost nobody plays with 2 strikers and 2 wingers as your mate Donny Dark Ages is advocating. Mind you, he thought McEachran was shite so all he is doing with each post he makes is demonstrating how far out of step he is with most other people’s opinions.

What, the same Coyle that insisted the club paying him £30k a week for three years?
*And you accuse me of talking shit :woohoo:
What’s your point? Who else made the decision to give him a ridiculous contract? You? you seem to know everything else. Or maybe you know someone else who thinks they do and knows your gullible enough to fall for their shit.
Griff please take a friendly word of advice you will realise what a prick you are making of yourself when you sober up so just leave it for now. What on earth has Coyle’s tenure at the club got to do with Ramis’s contract or wages ?
edit
I have just realised in your drunken stupor you may be confusing Ramis with Holt, who was mentioned as well.
Well to answer who sanctioned his wages ask your football playing buddy, as I think both him and his boss must have been the ACTUAL ones who sanctioned that “ridiculous contract”
Do you know what, you are absolutely right. Even before I saw your edit I realised I was indeed talking about Holt. Consider yourself in receipt of an unreserved apology! Sorry.
And yes, they would have sanctioned it. But only because he asked for it. Just like Martinez asked for even more for Boselli, before you throw that at me! ;)
I wouldn’t dream of it.
Btw did you have a good return to the drinking fold, I imagine its been like having a nagging toothache listening to those post match rants from the Leyland clan without the numbing effect of alcohol.
Fortunately, the Leyland clan stay outside the pub so we don’t have to mix with them for that long. Plus, of course, they leave after 78 minutes, so it’s only pre-match that we run the risk of bumping into them ;)
muppetGo away, the big children are having an argument, here. Nothing to do with the likes of you.
