I don’t rate Gomez he is IMO useless but to boo his every touch is as you say a disgrace. And the blame is not Gomez it’s the manager who keeps picking him when everyone can see he’s not good enough.

I think you missed the point about the constant jibes against Bob and how the majority on here wish that people would have substance to their arguments, not just the best manager in europe bit. There is an opportunity to go and debate such issues with Bob, like team selection, fortmation etc. I doubt many would have the balls to do it….

Oh, I think plenty of them have the balls. They just wouldn’t have the brains to string together a polite, reasoned, non-sarcastic, non-insulting argument.

And if they did, when they receive back the inevitable party line, outwardly posistive spin from Bob, they’ll just say he’s a daft Spanish c*** anyway and so what’s the point listening to him?

        That’s why they won’t go.

And anyway, you have to be a member of the supporter’s club to get in and as none of them are what you’d really call decent supporters, they won’t go.
Go on then Griff in your eyes what is a decent supporter???

And don’t start on the support your team through thick and thin shit, I’ve got a season ticket and have had since I was a kid.

Why shouldn’t Martinez be credited? According to those stats Bruce is being credited for buying Valencia. Was it not Jewell who signed him?

I thought it was Bruce who signed him !!
No it was Jewell. Im not having Bruce take the credit for that one. Valencia was PJ’s little gem. Bruce wouldn’t know a decent buy if it slapped him across his fat head.

Going back to ‘value for money’ topic. Of recent managers I’d have them in this order.

          1. Paul Jewell
          2. Roberto Martinez
          3. Chris hutchings
          4. Steve Bruce

I’m basing mine purely on my own opinions, irrelevant of any statistics and on my sole enjoyment I gain and was enriched in latics footballing razzmatazz. For me Bruce was so much more negative than jewell or Martinez. His rigid set up away from home bored the hell out of me.
So Bob’s square passing, 1 up front, no shots on target, 1 home win all season, bottom of the league excites you does it???

Buys low grade players then trys to get them to play like Barcelona .Makes him an idealist in need of a reallity check in my book.I wont mind us free falling through the leagues as long as we try to play sexy.

I have to say MR Brownbill that is exactly my take on things, silk purse sows ear spring to mind
My take is that for exactly the same reasons playing any other style would probably yield the same result. I don’t see how people who you believe can’t retain possession of, or pass, a football or hit a cow’s arse with a banjo in front of goal would suddenly become world beaters playing a different way. Or are we saying that you don’t need to keep the ball, pass properly or hit the target playing a different way?
But may be Griff if we had more of our players in a position to hit a cows arse with a banjo then one of them might just manage it???

            Just a thought like ;)

Rodders,Sammon,Di Santo,…..I would have Yakubu any day .No its not a stroke of luck ,its called an educated gamble.Something you have to risk when the dollop is up to your ears. What do you call whipping out 2.5 mill for a forward whose scoring ratio pre Wigan was bordering on criminal(Di Santo)as for Bosselli we will never know..Sorry Robbie has failed miserably with his aquisitions so instead of the buck stopping at his feet let’s wallow in “little Wigan syndrome”.

Yes, let’s just blame the manager, because after all, we are not ‘little Wigan’ who have been turned down by players on a regular basis for the past seven years.

So you’d say a player who was released on loan by Everton to Leicester, who many thought was overweight and past his best, and who I was hazard a guess is on a salary in excess of our present ceiling is a calculated gamble, but signing South America’s top scorer, a young enthusiastic Chelsea forward, or the SPL’s most improved striker are not worthwhile risks?

Funnily enough, on the endless pages of transfer gossip, suggestions, wish lists etc that clogged this board up pre-season, there was not one mention of Yakubu by anyone. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it?

And as for wallowing, who is wallowing? I most certainly am not. I came to terms with the fact that we couldn’t match the wages of our competition and that Wigan is not an attractive proposition many years ago, and that’s why I don’t throw my toys out of the pram or blame people when signings don’t come off, or indeed, if we lose.
Standish I agree with what your saying about the quality of player we can attract, being kind not the best. Which brings me to my gripe with Bob, if we have to sign poorer quality players how can you try and model our style of play on probably the best club side ever????

3 of our worse premiership signings without a doubt!

Dire? It was an ‘open and entertaining game’!

                    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17082835%5B/quote%5D

If entertaining is having most of the ball and only 2 shots on target and never looking like scoring.

agree but think martinez has been playing hugo out of position all season, wide right, might be better playing him in a striker position with some support, 442.

I think we’d get overrun in midfield if we went to 4-4-2 as neither Rodallega or Di Santo are the type to drop back and help out.

                      3-5-2 works best for me.
3-5-2 when did we ever have 2 up front??? Me sat in row L of the west stand was closer to Di Santo than any of our team got until Hugo came on.

If the forwards /Strikers are not scoring then you look down other avenues like the midfield

just by the bye what has been the contribution from midfield ?

I thought Di Santo ran himself ragged without much support today and your right we have no goals in midfield at all.

To be fair I don’t think many strikers in the world would score in our team with the current formation.

There is a thread over on rlfans. Now that they sponsor “Super League” each team, it would seem, has a “truck” with their logo on.

They’re keeping tabs on where they have been spotted on there. Riveting !

                            Intriguing :S :S :S

Wasnt it about £20 at Bolton (6 miles away) last week? And £20 this week for the Villa game?

You hardly take fook all when your top of the league so how many fans would travel if you’d had 3 seasons of shite like us???

I’m sure Moses doesn’t practice being greedy in training, players are very instinctive and do what they think is best on the pitch, with very little time to weigh up all the options.

Many managers will tell you that all the great goalscorers are greedy gits, but Victor is young with a natural talent to go past players. We will never know now, but I bet if Hugo was in Moses’s position on Saturday with just the goalie to beat, I doubt he would have taken the opportunity to play in a team mate for a simple tap in.

That’s one of the reasons I don’t go lambasting Martinez at every opportunity. He can get the players ready for match day, pick the team that can do a job and then once they are on the pitch, it is them who make silly mistakes, miss sitters etc. Bobby will just be as frustrated as the fans when things go wrong, but these players, this formation and tactics are good enough on their day to be successful in the EPL.

And there lies our problem, because of the quality of player Bob has signed we don’t have enough good days.

It’s noticeable that there are only three low key threads started in response to yesterday’s win – as opposed to having a board awash with the same sentiments over and over agan. It’s funny what a favourable result does to Cockney Latic eh?

Let’s hope we can get a bit more peace and quiet on the board between now and the end of the season.

I put that down to potentially 2 things first everyone is still in shock or secondly everyone is still in bed seriously hungover after celebrating a good win.
