I do not believe enough has been said about the role of Sharp and the Chief Exec who along with Caldwell created the criteria for players they wanted to bring in. Caldwell was sacked to hide the fact that two others were equally to blame, in my view.

That said the complaint that Joyce wears shorts and puts the cones out and takes the training suggests to me that he has no confidence in the trainers and Barrow. Do not forget that he wanted two trainers but Sharp would not agree! Why?

The team are playing far better under Joyce than under Caldwell and I do agree with the others who point their fingers at the players.

The goalkeeper they got on loan was a disaster. He obviously had no confidence in the defence, as I haven’t. Warnock is not the same player this season. His passing and awareness has just vanished?

Griggs has a problem and probably wants away. Yanic is the bright spot andPerkins is trying very hard but he is a Division One/Two player really.

Wigan had the opportunity when promoted to go for a manager with great experience but they cost money and it is that fact which governed the recruitment of players.

Let us all get behind Joyce shorts and all and give him and the team the support they need, you never know we may repeat the miracle of last season!

Happy New Year to you all.

Totally agree with the comment about Sharp. We have a very young & inexperienced / naive chairman who likes the limelight. I hope he is a quick learner!

Go behind within 5 minutes two behind from a deflation and then a third in jnjury time from an unlucky ricochet and own goal.

As I write wildshut has pulled one back were gunna win 4-3.

As one famous manager said, you create your own luck. Our defence was shambolick in the first half and deflections or not, we gifted a poor team 3 goals.

With the age of some of the players in our defence I’d expect more & better communication. We’ve let a young lad go out on loan to MK Dons who talks / organizes more than this lot put together.

I am not one for changing managers – I never wanted Caldwell to be sacked I firmly believe he was starting to turn it around and we would have been ok.

I also believe the club has made a big mistake with Joyce. I don’t like him putting the cones out before the game, him wearing shorts, seemingly side-lining all the coaching staff, making Barrow sit in the dug out when he used to do an effective job in the media gantry sending down messages to the bench. I don’t like him referring to one of our players as “Powelly”. I don’t like the fact that he comes across as an idiot!

I guess I don’t seem to like his amateur approach. Most of all I don’t like the negative almost defeatist attitude to games.

A mistake has been made in this appointment and while it will look bad on the club I believe the mistake needs to be rectified ASAP. Even if that means giving the job to Barrow until the end of the season.

Being honest I’d never heard of Joyce prior to us being linked with him. When i first heard him speak on radio he didn’t inspire me, and i did wonder what we had gotten.

But watching some of the games i’m not so sure it’s all down to him. Some of the players don’t seem to be that bothered to me, and that is worrying. We’ve got him now and i for one think the club need to stick with Joyce & back him. If that means getting rid of some of the players that don’t like the change then so be it.

He is a good manager, very good in fact.
Can’t stand the bloke personally, but like you say he’s a decent enough manager.

Runs about a lot but nothing to show for it. Going from his first stint I hope we don’t bring him back.

If you look at Sharpy’s comments when he brought Joyce in he mentions youth players a bit. So he won’t be going anywhere, he has a manager that is happy to work on a shoe string budget, for now!

His gamble of big returns on cheap season tickets hasn’t worked so can expect them to rise next season.

Football really is knackered IMO.

Rotherham have been pretty hard to beat lately late goal against Wednesday saw them off. I think some on here are expecting it to be 3 points im not so confident with our own form and luck.

It’s lowest scores Vs third lowest scores in the league. Might leave this one off my goals galore coupon this weekend..

Might sound strange but I’m hoping we don’t score first (presumptuous I know). If Rotherham do then they might get jittery towards the end which might be to our advantage?

3 points at Rotherham would be nice, might settle the players down a bit. I’m thinking we should survive though this season as i can see improvements in the team as a whole. We just need to cut out the individual naive mistakes and we should start to see more points on the board.

Get this comment from Joyce:

Joyce says the 18-year-old is still some way off being considered from the start. “Luke’s been injured since I’ve been at the club, and he’s only just coming back,” Joyce told the Evening Post.“I’ve not seen a lot of him, it’s only the last week or so that he’s been back involved.”

Surely if he isn’t fit enough to be considered for a start, he shouldn’t even be on the bench should he?

He’s probably referring to match fitness Lincs? We’ve got a fair few injuries at the moment as well so probably had to have him on the bench.

As long as it’s not Keith Stroud the clown we should be ok…

Let’s hope it’s third time lucky for us then ah..

Yet another poor team leaves our place with all three points!! What does that say about us.. We were dreadful for the first 30minutes, like they’d never played together before.

Our defence cost us points today, along with the ref, he was a clown in the first half that fella. Kellett is a poor player IMO, we must have better than him surely.

Newcastle are the best side i’ve seen at the DW this season, but we gave them a run for their money and came unstuck by our own incompetency… Again!
The fact is it’s quality of player more than tac tics that is our problem. Their first goal was a terrible one to concede, but good run & finish by Diame (combined with a good give & go move). The second came about from really poor decision making by Kellett…

Upfront for us, just one shot on target. Players are really beginning to look uneasy to me, long season ahead!

But surely jimmy therein lies the problem. Your spot on we simply don’t have the quality anymore so we have to utilise what we have and keep it as simple as possible. Wing backs and lone strikers are probably the hardest positions for outfield players and are specialist roles. Great wing backs are rare as hens teeth and the lone striker is so reliant on his midfield being up to the mark. Its unfair to expect players to revel in these positions when they are lacking in the talent required to make them work as designed.
Maybe a change in formation might work Nuneaton but last night for me, formation wasn’t the problem. I’m all in favour of a good double act up front, think Grigg would definitely benefit from having a partner.
Midfield is the problem as we’ve gotten three who are trying to play the holding role and are too static. Newcastle played lots of give en go passes yesterday one of which led to a goal, that is basic stuff which we don’t seem to be able to do anymore.

I’m not too fussed about formations myself Abram and as you say our midfield don’t support at the moment. Whole idea of one up front is for the midfield / wingbacks to get forward & support but we don’t.
Too many defensive minded midfielders on the pitch so something has to change.

Mate, grip on it, he will recruit in January, and play how he feels we should. Hopefully that is good enough, but we wont know til then.

We can’t progress with all the Jimmyc’s around saying things need to change, because they will when he can.

Sure there will be some new arrivals & departures come January. But will the philosophy remain the same?? If that departs then we could be onto a winner.

On current form & formation I doubt it Donny…. If we go without a striker again then Newcastle will be too strong for us. Gayle is on fire at the mo :P
