Hopefully you won’t experience the difficulty in getting kids off the Xbox to come and watch a losing side! Kids are a good barometer of how things are going on the pitch..
New league, a new team (probably) and GC in charge. Can’t see us doing that well myself?
He’s a player that gave everything when on the pitch, but his everything just wasn’t quality enough. The club can probably do without his whopping weekly wage.
Another good read.
It is better to set your expectations high, rather than settle for what used to be.
I’m sorry but playing the likes of some of these doesn’t inspire me one iota and the thought of playing Southend on a wet Tuesday fills me with dread.
All this “it’s going to be great bollocks” does my head in and proves we have a small minded outlook.
We have just been effing relegated halfway in receipt of parachute payments to the third division after fighting our way up in the nineties.
I don’t think the reality of this situation has sunk in yet and maybe it’s because the vast proportion of our supporters never experienced this league back then. It’s death on every level with disheveled clubs in backwaters and trips to these places are grim believe me!
The anger I feel today is unbelievable , we could and should still be in the second division , how the hell did it come to this???Believe it or not even grounds like Southend can bring about good memories. We won there in this very same league 2 nil win with a Neil Rimmer 25yard lob
Few months, or did you mean season
……… that was a poor decision by whomever and sort of typifies our club at the moment.
…and yet Latics won the LFA Youth Cup 6-1 on Saturday. Why doesn’t that typify the club ? ……. building for the future ?[/quote]
If you look at the line up for this match, looks pretty much like the regular first team choice. No wonder they walked it & should maybe have won two bits of silverware this season? On the face of it we have some good young talent coming through
As said, there is a time & place for things and making wholesale changes to a team for a semi, isn’t the right time.
The problem is the formation, but as 451 seems to be the in thing at the moment anything else just isn’t cool. Suppose we’ll have to wait for Spanish teams to start playing 442 again before it can be taken seriously again. A lone striker needs support from the midfield, and quickly but we just don’t get forward quick enough and the attack breaks down, pretty quickly.
It’s no coincidence that we’ve had flops up front over the last few years. We either need to change the formation or get it through to the midfielders / wing back to get forward more quickly when attacking.
Boyce got forward against Wolves but couldn’t cross the ball into the box as we only had one player in the box.. He checked back and passed the ball backwards in the end!!Development squad. There’s a clue, thereYes, I am aware of that. But if the club want to promote a winning mentality then you don’t make changes like that in a semi final. I don’t follow the youth so not sure what formation they normally play but would guess Robles & Cosgrove normally start?
There is a time and a place for most things, that was a poor decision by whomever and sort of typifies our club at the moment. It’s a pretty common occurrence at this time of year. Latics have already informed the players in the development squad who are getting released & other clubs have done likewise
The players Latics are releasing are currently looking round for other clubs and so are the players released from other clubs. All these players (if they’re lucky) get offered opportunities to train with other clubs & those clubs (if possible) like to see them play in a game as opposed to just in training.
That’s all it is, & if the likes of Joey Johnson are not being kept on then it may be more beneficial to Latics future to take a look at other players who are going to be available than stick with players who they’ve already decided aren’t going to have a future at the club
It’s nowt to get your knickers in a twist about even if in this instance it may have cost Latics the gameI think this post tells me more about the formation rather than players being released. Sounds like they played one up front then changed to two up front in the second half. Why wasn’t the leading scorer played from the start?
Time to think about next season now. Heard yesterday that Nicholls will start as number one with both keepers on their way. Perch is undecided whether he is staying and apart from Pearce, Waghorn and Huws the rest will be on their way. It’s gonna be a busy Summer for Gary! Was only asking about Nicholls at the weekend, I thought he was a cracking young keeper that did really well in his short spell in goal for us. Just the one mistake he made, and that was it for him? Let’s hope that rumour is true.
Our approach to games is too cautious and slow so for me we ain’t staying up.
I’ve gone for Boyce………..unswerving loyalty to the clubVery true, but he’s not had his best season… Either Perch or McGuire for me, I know McGuire has only been with us since Jan but his quality stands out in this team. Shame we won’t have him next season.
Is it into Euston, then on’t tube. If so what’s the best route.Been looking at this myself lhl. You can get the tube from Euston to south to Ealing I believe and it’s about a 15min walk the the ground. This is on the Piccadilly line, but you’ll have to get the Victoria line from Euston and change at green park tube station for the Piccadilly line.
You can download the underground map which might help.Caldwell has no quality to pick from up front for sure, but yet again he started with no strikers. One up front for a must win game! He finished the game with both strikers and as poor as they are it made a difference. Two shots on target today tells a story, young Gary is no better that the previous lot.
