And it appears his letter of resignation as chairman has been put in the War Chest.
6 weeks is fine – will be back in time to welcome Cardiff City and their lovely owner ;)
I’m sure he said that he would resign if they found him guilty of being a racist. The wording of the FA Charge is that he is not a racist, but is guilty of saying things of an offensive nature. Racist will not be on DW’s CV.
Spent New Years Eve in Knott End and three of us went for a walk down the Wyre this morning. Bumped into a chap walking his dogs and he asked was we “pie munchers”, probably because of our accents. He turned out to be a Blackpool fan and said that how the FA has treated Whelan was an absolute disgrace. He said that every person he had spoke to had said the same thing.
It’s nice to know that not every fekker is wanting to hang big Dave out to dry.
He went on to say that he worked with some Indians and as he called them, “some Pakis” as well. They did not feel that calling them Pakis was an insult to their religion. He said those two ethnic minorities are racist towards each other all the time, but its laughed off as friendly banter. If I was Whelan I would have certainly appealed that charge, based on what Balotelli got, but I suppose the wording of the charge, has left him in a better frame of mind and in a position whereby he could accept it.
There seems to be a lot of people who think the same about the FA JR. FA jumped on this too quickly to satisfy the media & PC brigade.
Holt must be one of, if not the worst signing this club has ever made? 1.4m a year in wages for a bloke who has played a handful of games for us.. I suspect Holt will see his contract out til the end as nobody else outside the prem could afford him.
“The FA Disciplinary Commission said it was “satisfied” Whelan “is not a racist” and did not intend to cause offence by his comments.”
Why have they charged him then?
That Taylor is really poor defensively and we should have tried to keep Figueroa.
Why? So we could have two defensively poor left backs? I wouldn’t trust Figueroa to mark a bingo card.
Who else can play there? Defensively figs is better than Taylor, he looks nervous on the ball, makes too many mistakes and gets caught out of position a lot.
5m or not I’d rather keep him. He is a player that can excite and deliver the goods, but when he’s in the mood….. We are short of that kind of talent at the moment so better the devil you know ( cue Garswood)
The proof will be in the pudding, as the saying goes. It’s easy for Holt to say all that stuff so if he is back with us lets see if he looks fit and if he puts a shift in on the pitch!!
12 months ago Holt did look like a very costly dud.. Let’s hope he proves me wrong.
I don’t think it helps if you call him a pudding ;)
Did you know by the way that in the phrase “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” – proof actually means “test”.
Exactly the same usage as in “the exception proves the rule” which most people think means you have to have an exception that makes the rule right – which is nonsense. The meaning is “the exception tests the rule” – if the rule still holds even for things out of the norm then it is correct.
See also “proof read” – a “test” read.Who said this forum isn’t educational?
Wow, I had to read that one twice Garswood.. Very correct, but I was being lazy, you obviously got what I meant though :).
Are the rumours that I hear about Holts wages correct, 30k a week? Find that hard to believe, amazed if he is (lucky bugger)
First half was pretty poor but I think that was more to do with the way Sheffield Wednesday set their stall up. Second half we looked good until macca lost his head again? When will that lad ever learn? So frustrating to lose to crap teams, they did not look like a team that would walk away with three points tonight… Despite some poor performances thought we were unlucky again tonight not to get something from this game.
That said our defensive frailties reared it’s ugly head again tonight. That Taylor is really poor defensively and we should have tried to keep Figueroa. The proof will be in the pudding, as the saying goes. It’s easy for Holt to say all that stuff so if he is back with us lets see if he looks fit and if he puts a shift in on the pitch!!

I think mid table is achievable, there is a difference in our play IMO. That win at Leeds just might give us something to build on in terms of confidence. Play offs are pretty remote I think.
I haven’t seen enough of him to judge really. It is a bit confusing why we seem to buy players but then don’t give them enough playing time to adjust / prove themselves?
There was a lot of fans booing at the end of yesterday’s match and not for the first time. One thing is for sure he won’t get the time he did at our place.
Unbelievable really, no time at all given to him. Changing managers on a regular basis can bring more problems. Still think they will go down regardless of who they bring in.
It is a very god article that is full of common sense.. Something this mass hysteria surrounding the matter misses.
And I suppose it was Roslers fault that Grant was over weight as well..
Uwe demanded hard work from his players but Mr Holt was obviously not up for any of that nonsense.
Clarke Carlisle is one of the most boring commentators around and I’ve never understood how he gets on in punditry.
It’s very easy for people to jump onto this bandwagon, forgetting all the good Whelan has done for sport generally….It is very easy for people to jump on, but I’m afraid he started the engine and opened the door for them to hop in.
There is no denying that, he was very foolish in trying to defend Malkys actions… Even more foolish for employing him in my honest opinion…
Whelan is not a racist though, in my eyes anyway. So should no marks like Carlisle being calling for his head?
