the cheeky get has gone on strike because noone has talked to him about his future ?

after the way he played on saturday i will be surprised if anyone ever talks to him again.

in reply to: What did people make of our new goalkeeper because…….. #19635

perhaps he should have done better with the second goal but how many has kirkland missed like that this season-the one at home v manure, by anderson i think, was a disgrace – the larson/birmingham not much better (wasnt that pollitt)
but one thing is for sure he kept us in the game -only for him it could have been a repeat of the spurs scoreline.

the other thing no one has mentioned is how quick he moved the ball and found a player after he had caught it-kirkland wants an hour before he releases the ball.

his debut in my opinion was pretty impressive all in all.

Its quite amazing really how some of the fans can read negativities in the game.
It wasn’t a league game, it was The FA Cup. Being a Latics fan, surely you must realise playing a top flight club doesnt mean you’re out. This is what makes The FA Cup.
A league 1 side has knocked out The Champions…..
Sutton 2-1 Coventry
Wrexham 2-1 Arsenal
Hereford 2-1 Newcastle
Liverpool 0-1 Wimbledon
I could go on and on, wonder how Chelsea felt all those years ago.
If you want to know your team is going to win, you need to watch Scottish football. I love football because its so unpredictable and nobody can guarantee anyone beating anyone. If we get through to the next round, we could beat Arsenal or get knocked out by Southampton. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

i take on board what you say and agree with it-however and this is a MASSIVE HOWEVER -gomez and scotland showed how bad they really are.

ask youself this would notts county swap lee hughes for scotland ?

First half totally inexcusable and was mainly due to fact that RM decided to experiment with an unknown keeper and a centre back who doesn’t understand the English mentality and was faced with Lee Hughes. Completely unbalanced what looked quite a stable unit at Wolves. The new African lad who came on in second half was better but still very risky. It was screaming out for the calm that Caldwell brought last week. Lucky to get away with it but there was big effort in second half and they looked as though they wanted it. Remember that Notts have signed a lot of the better players from the lower divisions and it was huge day for them.RM does keep doing things that make me scream though.

that unknown keeper is the main reason we are still in the fa cup,he made at least 5 world class saves, perhaps his positioning was wrong for the 2nd goal, but i thought he’d had a very good game at the end yesterday , and watching it on tv last night and the repeat this morning saying “i thought he’d had a very good game” did him an injustice.

Amaya was awful, Gomez was awful and all Bramble could do was give the ball away. The only players who seemed to be trying were N’zogbia (for the time that he was on) and McCarthy.

And what was with the fight between Charlie and Hugo at the end?

as i said on here after the manure debacle when thomas had a spat at martinez, everthing is not well in the camp and this for me proves it,only for boyce pulling them apart they would have ended up fighting.

Manchester City starlet Vladimir Weiss is the latest player to be linked with a move to Wigan Athletic with City boss Roberto Mancini saying he wants the 20 year old Slovakia midfield player to go out on loan for the remainder of the season.

Sky Sports are now reporting that both the Latics and neighbours Bolton Wanderers are interested in taking the highly rated Weiss for the rest of the season with the Latics said to be the favourites to land him with the players agent, who is also his dad and national team manager excited about Roberto Martinez` playing style.

Another pretty-passing-play convert? ;)

Unless, maybe, he just likes getting scutched 9-1, not tackling and passing sideways all day:?

griff old son it seems that the excitement about martinez and his pretty football has been replaced with being part of the ‘hoof ball harriers’ style.

Sometimes though loudmouth a few slip under that criteria, Scotland, Edman and Melchiot for example. Hopefully Whelan is giving Martinez more freedom than we think.

scotland is the only exception in recent times – and if he is the example i think we may go back to our original policy.
now i am not saying its a bad thing in fact it is a very good way to finance our future premiership status, and it puts us as a club in pole position when trying to attract young talent.
You can’t quote somebody who names 3 recent exeptions to the criteria in recent times, then go and say that there is only one. Unless you are classing Edman and Melchiot as not recent??
if you like young man i will give you a quote that will stick in your memory for some time to come.

Real Mallorca striker Aritz Aduriz is a £4 million target for Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez.

The Mirror says Martinez flew to his native Spain yesterday to watch the 28-year-old in Copa Del Rey action and hopes to bring him back to finalise a deal by the weekend.

Aduriz was Mallorca’s top scorer last season but wants to come to England while he is still at his peak – and he could be the missing finisher Martinez is seeking.

sorry but i would be surprised if this happens, he just doesnt fit the latics/whelan profile because of his age,
our policy ,or whelans to be more precise, is to get players young enough to develop them and make money on any resale – and this fellow at 28 years of age doesn’t meet that criteria.

all a bit off from the origanal post this lads, and a bit to serious.
mind you I agree with griff here, james, you can be a at times.

bruce or bobby?
most people on here would have martinez after we have won, and bruce after we have lost.
i will decide when/if martinez has done/does a full season in the prem.

what if and thats a big if – you want niether ?

in reply to: Martinez and Whelan #19054
Both say they are excited about the possibility of a few signings that will/may be completed before the end of January. One of which is a striker believed to be Aduriz as reports suggest Roberto is currently in Spain finalising a deal for the striker.

Whelan has said Roberto has got a few exciting signings lined up but priority is with a striker (Aduriz if reports are correct). I am excited myself as I think we could possibly see a new winger (maybe Moses) + a new central mid to play off the strikers (maybe Britton) + Aduriz which looks to be a done deal + possibly Kris Boyd from Rangers although it’s gone quite quiet on that front.

It’s all exciting stuff!

is that the same whelan and martinez who said “cattermole is going nowhere”

come on now griff are you asking me to believe an old cynic like you is listening to anything reported in the media,or are you resorting to the old tried and tested modus regularly used on here. ‘if it says what you want to hear then it must be right’

i look at it this way if anybody at all who has a professional interest in football, told me it was friday 22nd.january 2010 tomorrow i would ask for a second opinion.

IMO supporters at a game are there to help their team in whatever way they can whether that’s through encouraging their own team through the atmosphere they generate or singleling out players of the opposition & putting them off their game
Sometimes it works (Ellington at West Brom) & sometimes it doesn’t (Altrincham’s keeper in the 94 cup tie) but I’ve no problem with any Latics fans dishing out any stick to Lee Hughes this weekend
IMO after what he did he shouldn’t expect any less

well hughes certainly had the last laugh that night so i didnt work, but it was fun and seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

been a while since i heard this one, west brom away ont tuesday night wen the duke got loads of abuse i think it was.went summat like,`lee hughes,is a murderer`,nice few choruses of that should do nicely for a warm up.

I thought supporters were supposed to sing songs about their own team, not merely goad the opposition.
they are but it certainly added spice to that night.
