If you can pay on the day tomorrow?

God, if you don’t know what hope is there for the rest of mankind.

I don’t think I know more about football/Latics than anyone else but some of the shite I hear at Latics has to be heard to be believed. A mate of mine last night heard “these are the worst team in Belgium, if we can’t beat these it’s time to pack in” When my mate informed Mr Knob they were 2nd in the league and unbeaten in a couple of months he was told to F off.

That is one of the underlying problems with all the message boards, and those going into meltdown because we lost, I have seen Wargem play twice now and they are technically the best of the 3 teams in our group.

Some people seem to have got carried away with our draw in Belgium, if they had taken just one of their countless chances we would be already down and out, their passing, pace & counter attacking last night would have graced the premier league and they would have beaten much better teams than us.

Having said that we also had our chances in the game, and I believe that the inadequacies of the manager was a major contribution for dropped points last night and both games against Kazan.

in reply to: Coyles view #124062

In the first half last night Gomez and McLean’s interplay on the left caused Wargem no end of problems, if we had got any players in the box we might have stood some chance of scoring, however it seems Owen Coyle’s way of setting up seems to be some form of a 4 4 2 system without the 2 up front.

What I would love to know is what is the point of playing 2 wingers when we have no strikers in the box and not one midfielder gets into the box either when we are attacking.

One last thing about Gomez, his dead balls last night apart from one just before he was subbed were 10 times as good as Watson has produced all season, again if our lack lustre attackers bothered to try to get on the end of one or two of them perhaps it may have been a different story.

When do you announce your travel details to Manchester Airport on 12th Dec pals?

    Need 2 places

    TIA

they are announced on the main board, under the heading ‘Coach to Manchester Airport for Maribor Flight’

in reply to: This is Our Minister For Sport. #123897

Why should anyone be surprised that someone appointed minister for sport knows nothing about sport, when the rest of the tory cabinet know nothing about the worries and concerns of 90% of the population it is supposed to looking out for.

in reply to: maribor insurance #123806
    Agreed JR.

These policies are sold in volume ultra cheap to banks, etc in the hope that few are claimed upon. Any that are claimed upon are viewed as the least valuable to the insurers so they do anything they can keep down the payouts.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn’t that the whole concept of insurance underwriting ?

in reply to: Martinez lovers this is not for you! #123661

Every man and his dog knew my views on Martinez, but you don’t realise how much you miss someone until its too late, I’d swap him in an instant for this “anti football” idiot that is in charge now, in fact I’d take Kenny Swain on this mon.

I thought the Lazarus case was dead and buried.

A police spokesman said “we are still looking for 12 accomplices”.

He went on to add “this is not the first time he has been accused of fraud, there was also the case of making his own wine to avoid paying exice duty”.

I must admit that despite what I said previously if it was just myself Braga would be my number one choice draw so I could visit Porto, it is number one on the list of those places I have always wanted to visit.

Vintage port is my ‘guilty pleasure’, I both collect and drink the odd bottle so imagine my dream Latics away at Braga followed by a visit up the Douro valley and trips round the famous ‘port caves’ in Porto itself.

Braga’s the strangest stadium I’ve ever been to. Not much in the town, but Porto’s only 40 mins away.

I’m wasn’t a big fan of Port but I went on a tour of Graham’s and staggered out of there a few hours later. A lovely way to spend an afternoon!
I wish you two would stop it. I’m now opening a bottle of port and will also no doubt soon be grabbing some cheese and biscuits. Obviously tomorrow I will forget that I opened some port and in three months when I remember I shall be pouring it down the sink!
Early last year I bought a case of Dow’s 2011 half bottles(375cl) for just that reason, they were a liitle expensive at about a tenner per bottle but 2011 is going to prove to be one of the great vintage years.

Even though these should be given another couple of years before opening because of this thread today I thought what the hell get one drunk, however I just checked on the web site where I buy them from and this same case of wine is now £270 (12 bottles)so needless to say I will make do with a glass of merlot.

Not bad going £150 increase in value in just over 12 months, down side is the newsletter from the wine merchants said buy as much 2011 vintage as you can it is a great investment, I didn’t.

in reply to: Whelan at his Machievellian best? #114398
So Whelan says it is not about money with Roberto, he wants assurances about training and academy facilities, etc.

Whelan says he needs time to ensure he can deliver on anything he promises Roberto in this regard, which is why the decision is adjourned until Monday.

What can’t Whelan guarantee delivery on at the moment, ie what doesn’t rely on him simply putting his hand in his pocket? Because if it was just a question of money, he would simply cough up, would he not? Planning permission for the new training ground, that’s one thing that is currently not in his gift. Would you like to be the council member responsible for Martinez leaving the club by refusing planning permission on the new training ground?

I suggest that this is a political charade being played out by Whelan and Bob, decided to deliver the training ground decision quicker than it might ordinarily have arrived. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Bob to be confirmed as staying on as Wigan manager sometime next Monday, would be my bet.

    That’s a very cynical view !

Surely you don’t think an slightly batty old pensioner could be that manipulative do you ?

Looked into Estoril and Cascais for holidays in the last 12 months and Lisbon with Easyjet were the cheapest European flights available at all times.

Fingers crossed. Estoril casino wouldn’t know what’s hit it!

I’ve lost a couple of quid on the two occassions i’ve benn in there !

Last time we stayed in Estoril(20 years ago) our hotel was next door to the casino.
I remember going over christmas/new year with a big gang of us, and we were all in tee shirts and shorts during the daytime and the locals were all dressed in fur coats and scarves.
On the same occassion we met a bloke in a bar who introduced us to another fellow he claimed was eusabio’s brother.

My mouth is watering at the prospect of a trip there – super bock beer, vino verdi and white port spring to mind.

Paying for football(cheaply), is relative to how much you earn and what family commitments you have.To some people latics maybe cheap,to others it maybe expensive.

Sorry but “Paying for football(cheaply), is relative” to how much it costs for a comparable service and nothing to do with how much you earn.

Whether or not your earnings prevent you from buying the cheaper(latics) version or the epensive(arsenal)version is a completely different issue.

Your families are going to be gutted when they find out this year’s holidays are in Motherwell, Donetsk and Minsk!

Or delighted with trips to Lisbon(estoril), Florence or Seville
Quite true. Lisbon in September would be a nice one with a Thursday to Monday stay in Cascais.
Standish you are a travelled man, estoril/cascais uded to be a popular package tour destination 20-30 years ago and I have have been there a few times, although you never see either in the popular brochures any more.

Lisbon is still one of my favourite cities, it would be a dream come true if we managed to draw them(Estoril)
